Description

EasyReader offers convenient access to your favourite accessible book libraries and talking newspaper stands, in one place.

Neurodivergent readers – especially readers who have dyslexia – can customise their reading experience with dyslexia-friendly fonts, adjustable colour schemes and word highlights that synchronise with audio.

Designed for accessibility, EasyReader enables blind and partially sighted readers to read with magnified text, with audio, or a combination of both - where each word is highlighted on screen as it’s read aloud. It also links to braille displays for braille readers.

EasyReader is fully optimized for use with iOS VoiceOver and iOS supported Braille displays.

EasyReader Features:

Open a World of Accessible Books
EasyReader provides global access to millions of books from accessible book libraries around the world. Log in to your favourite library to read accessible versions of classic books, the latest bestsellers, non-fiction, school textbooks and children’s storybooks.

Customise to Read Your Way
Text magnification in EasyReader is easy to adjust. Simply pinch in and out on the screen to find the text size that’s best for you. With EasyReader the text is always sharp and visible on screen. It’s an exceptional experience for readers with visual impairments.

Read in fonts that work best for you, including dyslexia-friendly fonts. In EasyReader you can customise the colour of text, background colour and contrast. Adjust letter and line spacing to make your reading experience even better.

Audio Books & Text-to-Audio
Listen to narrated audio books or listen to text-only books and newspapers, which EasyReader converts to human-sounding synthesised speech. Audio perfectly synchronises with on-screen text highlights, so you can read along as you listen.

In EasyReader, you can modify pronunciation, choose the reading voices you prefer and adjust reading speed and volume.

Read a Range of Formats
EasyReader reads a wide range of book and document formats, including:

• HTML
• Text files
• DAISY 2 and DAISY 3
• Microsoft Word (DOCX only)
• PDFs (with RNIB Bookshare)
• Any text copied to clipboard

Easy to Navigate
Access your favourite libraries, then browse and download books easily, with intuitive navigation and accessible controls.

In EasyReader you can move around books quickly. Skip forward or back when reading and skip to any page or chapter.

Type keywords in the search facility to quickly find the information you need.

Add Bookmarks & Notes
To help navigate books, readers can bookmark favourite pages and sections. To help with study or reference, readers can also add text notes.

TallyChip,
Very awkward to use by someone who is blind and who is using voiceover on iOS
I tried using this app to read a book share a book with one of the supplied text voices. I found the interface to be very awkward using voiceover, trying to swipe left or right to go to the previous or next control off and landed me on the control which was not labeled, or which was far too easy to inadvertently change that’s losing my position within the book. Yet trying to change the voice speed was excruciatingly tedious, and using the help places you into a hierarchical system of webpages requiring you to go back and forward many times
A dog named scoot doo,
Needs so much improvement especially in search
I down loaded this app to use Bookshare for my second grader. The search options are limited. I can type in a subject word or look at a list of categories but you can’t filter further. For example, if I want animal books for children I can search by age or category not both. If I choose category, There is no way of knowing book level or intended audience.

I also don’t like that I have to eye read all the titles and descriptions. An app designed for those that can’t eye read should read book titles and descriptions to the user.

The default voice is awful. I can get a new voice for $7 but I can’t hear what it sounds like before I buy it. I’m also not convinced a different voice would be better. The voice inflections are weird, accents on the wrong syllable, pauses at the wrong spots. It makes it really hard to comprehend.
ReadwithMaryMc,
Really Great App
I love this app! My students are beginning to see its value and are now using it more! (You know how high school kids are!)

The newest version which allows you to access bookshare reading lists is now so much easier to use. If you know how to choose a voice on your iPhone/iPad - “Alison” is a good free voice to chose, you can adjust the pitch & speed so that it almost sounds like a real person. Even the “paid” voices are relatively inexpensive.

You can copy written material, say from a google doc, or from your safari reading list, and read it with this app. This is a great tool for struggling readers.

I hope that the developers will next allow us to take a picture of written material & have the app read it too. (Like another app does.)

The best thing of all is that it is FREE! My students won’t buy a reading app & the state sponsored app isn’t always available for enough students. We only get so many licenses. This allows my students to read the highlighted text, stop & start it, & bookmark text. I just love it. 10 stars!
Saifine56,
Love it except for one problem
I’ve been using this app for a while and really like it. However, for the last few months I've been having a problem whereby the app would crash every 10 minutes or so. This only happens when I use the app's screen-reader voice. I've seen that someone else also has this problem so I hope it'll be resolved soon.
Ps. I’ve also been trying to contact The app developer but cannot, so I hope you will see this review.
wetfrog,
I guess it would be ok
This is unfortunate. Wanted, hoped this was going to be good but nope. You can’t even open ebooks that are stored on your device. This is basically a link app to various online library’s. Pointless really. Im not about to sign up for yet another library link. And why does this app have a section for showing all my clipboard stuff. Don’t ever copy any passwords as the people behind this app will see all your clipboard info. I can’t comment on the reading option since again i cant open any ebooks on my ipad and not signing up for any online stores.
Toni Tonez,
Love this app but...
I’ve been using this app for abo a year now, on and off, and I’ve just realized two things.

1. I had my Bluetooth earphones connected to my phone, but for some reason when I go into this app, the app will only play aloud and not through the earphones. I believe this isn’t a problem when you use wired earphones, but I’m not sure. Either way, that’s really unfortunate.

2. This is a newer problem—I’m trying to use the app right now to read a book of poetry, but it keeps crashing and closing after using it for 5-10 minutes.
seastar4077,
it doesn't let me see all of my books that I have downloaded so far
I have a lot of books on EasyReader, and when I went to download a few more yesterday, I closed out the app, and then re-opened it again, but it only says I have 100 books out of the 1000 or so. but then i check my i phone storage usage for the ap, it says they are still there, is there a limit on how many books you can have on easy reader?
Sweet pea 1 to 2,
Using voiceover
So I love this app, but lately when I swipe three fingers up or down, it moves to another section of the book, it used to be when you were done with a chapter, you swipe down to the bottom and press next, but when i do that, it moves some where else, and I don’t know where it puts me.
Disappointed Birthday,
Amazing App
I love this!! Very shallow learning curve and easy for almost anyone to use. I used to be a read2go user, but then it got taken off of the App Store. My Teacher Consultant for the Visually Impaired recommended it because I wanted a free app that would allow me to read my Bookshare books. This does all that and more!!
Wheelygirl,
App itself is good, but lacks syncing across devices
I wanted to like this app because the reading interface is nice but I hate how it doesn’t sync my reading position and bookmarks across devices. It makes it very difficult to enjoy reading my books. I’ve opted to try an alternative app specifically because of this. 😔
