FFfan8,
Surprisingly fun, not pay to win
I’ve played a few of the DQ mobile games and this one it’s the most enjoyable so far. Yes there is auto battle but it’s optional and bosses around the same recommended level give a nice challenge and doesn’t feel like damage sponges. Yes there is a stamina gauge that can slow your progress but they give you potions to replenish and progressing gives you more stamina at certain ranks/mission completion.

For a “gatcha” game it doesn’t feel play to win and honestly, I can’t see any incentive to spend money unless you have the desire to collect every weapon. Great for me as I’ve never spent money on a mobile game but I do spread the word if I find something I enjoy. Idk, maybe I can find a whale to recommend this too or I’ll buy a DQ game in the future as XI was great and this game gives me a greater appreciation for the series.

4/5 as it’s still new and the game crashes. It’s quite rare and it’s always been when I to the treasure chest pulls. I still get my rewards but the game closes out. Never happened in battle though. Probably change this to a 5 star review after they work out the bugs which is sorta expected out of new games.
Rosearkah,
The closest we’ll get to entering Dragon Quest.
Dragon Quest: Dai’s Adventure is an older anime in the franchise that has finally been remastered, and this mobile game captures that renewed spirit of adventure extremely well. While a good portion of this game’s content features characters from Dai’s Adventure (hence the title), you have the ability to create your own little avatar for your party. Your avatar can switch equipment based on class, and you can accompany your allies in practically every mode. (The only thing missing is the ability to custom coordinate outfits because your avatar character defaults to the equipment they’re wearing. Story characters maintain their outfits for the sake of Gacha.)

Whether you’re old hat to Dragon Quest or you’re just trying to figure out what type of games “Hero” in Super Smash Bros. comes from, this is a great game I believe you will enjoy!

(**Prospective players, please don’t be put off by how “forced” some of the story material may feel. Dragon Quest is by nature a Fantasy game, so just catalogue any McGuffins and/or other literary devices you may find to poke fun at later; they’re there on purpose for you to enjoy!)
Pizacake,
Not good
It’s halfway between both a hero collecting and gear collecting gacha without fulfilling either one. There is no real character gacha, they’re instead collected through story progress, but it takes forever. The real gacha draw is gear but gear only displays on the character created hero, none of the DQ heroes. Not even weapons display on the DQ heroes. The gear that can be shown on the hero is underwhelming. The hero appearance customization is bare bones. There’s just nothing in this game to make your experience unique. It’s an utter failure of use of gacha mechanics. I don’t care for my avatar hero and I don’t care for any of the collectible heroes I’ve seen, especially since knowing they’re just gear camels. The combat system is good in theory but not in execution. Sometimes my party members fight alongside me as AI and sometimes I have to swap between all of them myself. There’s no consistency with which to plan and build around. When there are multiple party members at once the abundance of skill effects obscures the field-warning of incoming attacks making navigating the field chaotic and difficult. It looks like there’s a lot of hero development but I can’t bring myself to dive into any of it for the aforementioned reasons. I don’t like leaving negative reviews, but this game doesn’t deliver on anything. It’s a lot of good ideas just poorly implemented.
Jayko Lionheart,
Another awesome game from DeNA!
Been playing for a bit now and so far i can say it’s one of my new favorite mobile games. The gameplay is really fun and has some slick animations. I love that we can create our own character, but I wish we had more hairstyles to choose from like different black hairstyles (dreads, Afros, etc..). Haven’t ran into any problems yet, but I’ll be sure to let you guys know if I do. I hope that you guys continue to add new stuff and improve the game. Excellent job as always DeNA! I can’t wait to see what you guys do next!
xuxugehl,
Good, but can improve
First off, people complain about Gachas since most are cash grabs. Coming from many Gachas, this game isn’t that bad. Stamina could be improved, oh and for anyone reading. Even the parts of the story where you don’t battle (some parts of story have a part where you battle). Both giving you the currency needed to summon. Over time it builds up, plus the game gives you three multi summons when you begin once you claim your inbox stuff. Which gives you a decent beginning since you don’t need OP gear yet.

So devs, keep listening to the people that give detailed descriptions as to what can be done to improve the game. Think about those reviews, and don’t listen to people who whine since they can’t summon four multi summons in the start without having to earn the currency. They get three, anyhow, the games fun. The lanes are fun, the mechanics of battle are fun, the pacing is fun. Game could possibly be a bit smoother with changing lanes and dodging back and leaping forth.
gohatenks,
Great, but not the original story as far as I can tell
Okay, you might think that I’m crazy, but I have my reasoning. I basically downloaded this game because I didn’t know the original Dai no daibouken story, and decided that this would be a great idea to see what happened. Everything was going alright, until I got to the tutorial, in which I found out that I was traveling back in time to the story, and was, in fact, INVOLVED in it! This frustrated me so much that I deleted the game. All I really wanted was to just SEE what was going on in the story, not get INVOLVED in it. Maybe someday, another anime company will gain the rights to this obscure, but popular series, and make a proper game that follows the original story. But until this game gets drastically changed to what I wanted, then I’m not changing my mind about it ever again. And please, I also want to hear back about what was going on in your minds when you were developing this game. Because what if other people are furious with the same thing? Do you want that to happen? DO YOU?
Aigner85,
The game is so good, but still!
The game is so good specially for thos who love Dragon Quest series and Dai no daibouken, but now when we reached level 60, it is so hard to level up! It is like impossible, the only way to level up is by using the 1 card for Silver Slime challenge… and that take ages to level you up.. they should add new challenges or ways to level up, also the 2 characters that company you in the party, they should be more smart than now… they laterally take damage from everything… and they don’t know when to avoid attacks or use guard… In the end, I am a big fan of Dragon Quest Series, I hope that you try to improve everything.. thanks
Tirials,
Great game, needs more characters.
This game has a very unique combat style and overall the game is very fun with the content it has. That being said, crystal accumulation is slow after a certain period so make sure to spin on the gacha wisely. Right now I feel the game is flooded with items (which is good for learning skills and all), but has a shallow cast of characters that don’t really offer much of a diverse play style (seeing as the best skills come from items rather than the character. Great animation and sound design with an authentic DQ vibe. It’s a must play for all DQ fans.
DevilishPD,
Glad but sad at the same time
I love this series since I was a kid. So glad to see a mobile game for it but so sad it is not a turn based rpg. This game and story currently a perfect fit for a classic turn based rpg, ilI would gladly pay money for one. The action style just kind of kills the original story a bit. The story and characters in this series is just simply begging to be a turn based rpg so somebody please make it a reality.
Greatness213121312,
Highly Disappointing
Let me start by saying I’m a huge fan of the main Dragon Quest games and most non-mobile games from Square Enix.

That said, this is by far the worst Dragon Quest game I’ve ever played. I’m so disappointed I couldn’t even give it a full day of my time.

It’s not even the terrible 3-lane auto-battle that got me…5 minutes in after a short lackluster stereotypical storyline, you realize this is just another Gatcha cash-grab. Plus there’s stamina. Why would any fan of the JRPG genre, from a series that sits on top of many tier lists of the best JRPG series of all time no less, and have to wait for stamina to refill or pay for it? It turns when players want to play a game…. They actually want to play, not just until our stamina runs out.

In my humble opinion and in a gross understatement, this is highly disappointing.
