Description

If you ride a bike, this app is for you. From pro world tour teams to casual riders, Epic Ride Weather helps cyclists to achieve their goals, get out more often, and have more fun on the bike.

* Pick just the right kit every time.
* Choose the best time of day to ride.
* Plan to maximize the tailwind, and avoid a headwind on the way home.
* Plan perfect hydration and nutrition.

Epic Ride Weather provides personalized weather forecasts that take into account your speed and location, combining multiple forecasts to give you a precise projection of weather for the duration of your ride.

How It Works

Epic Ride Weather connects with your favorite GPS app such as Strava, Ride With GPS, Garmin, Komoot and Plotaroute. You pick the route, set the start time and Epic Ride Weather provides a forecast for the whole ride.
A distinct forecast is provided for every 10 minutes of ride time, based on the location that you'll be at that time. With unmatched hyperlocal forecasting from DarkSky, you'll see how temperature, wind speed and direction, and probability of rain vary throughout the ride.

Pick the best time of day to ride based on your route and pace, with the best (or worst) conditions shown for start times throughout the day.

Strava Segments: Your favorite segments are shown alongside your activities and routes. Segments can be sorted by current weather conditions, showing those with the highest tailwind first based on the forecasted wind speed and yaw angle. Today could be your day to best your PR!

Professional cycling teams signed up to the VeloViewer WorldTour package can connect their Race Hub directly with Epic Ride Weather. State-of-the-art weather forecasting can be used to inform race day tactics and strategy for any upcoming stage, race, ITT, TTT or prologue from VeloViewer Race Hub.

New in 2.0:

* New Look! - Updated look, support for larger text sizes, and improved dark mode on all devices!
* Reverse a Route - Have a great route but want to go the opposite direction? Reverse your route!
* Recent Routes - Recent routes have been moved so that you can more easily forecast frequently used routes.
* Humidity - Forecasts now include humidity so that you can plan your hydration.
* Daylight - Plan around sunrise and sunset so that you can ride at edge times more safely.
* UV Index - Forecasts include the UV index so that you can avoid unwanted exposure to ultraviolet rays.
* Improved performance
* Improved support for Trailforks - with separate Favs, Wishlist, Plans
* Nearby Segments - Find Strava segments near your current location, sort by wind advantage to get your next PR.

Boredtotears1134,
Great App!
Epic Ride Weather has been a lifesaver for me. I like to do a bit of traveling and finding out what the weather will be along my designated route is difficult. (I like longer rides, so it's not as simple as checking the forecast for one location)

Using this app has been great because it forecasts the route as you have planned to move through it. It has proven to be fairly accurate, as accurate as most weather forecasting tools are, and since you can update along the way it's easy to see how things are changing. Combine this with your favorite satellite/ radar app and you'll never be fooled by the weather out on a ride again.

Finally, there was a recent issue were private routes developed in Strava became unavailable in the app. (Strava initiated the changes) I contacted David and he was VERY helpful in getting the issues resolved. Required the latest app update to fix. Never had a developer more responsive than him!

So all in all spend the money! It's worth it if you need accurate weather for a local ride, want to plan for a long route in a new place where you aren't familiar with the weather, and I'm confident if you have any troubles David will get you fixed up!
ChicagoBrian,
Essential application for cyclists
Extremely useful application for any cyclist that rides outdoors. Overlays weather data with your planned cycling route, departure date/time and speed. It allows you to make educated decisions regarding what route to take on any particular day, what clothing to wear, and what time to ride. I especially appreciate knowing wind direction and speed. The application is very easy to use and the output is easily shared with your riding partners. I lead a lot of rides with my cycling club in Chicago and always use this app as conditions can change, depending on which direction we travel and who doesn’t want to have the tailwind home….. Well worth the subscription price.
Tanagra2,
Excellent Support and App
I haven't used Epic Ride Weather very much, but on the occasions that I have, it has been extremely useful. Being able to see the wind directions on the route I intend to ride is the most useful feature for me. I just had a small problem with the app on my iPhone; it said my subscription had expired, even though I had renewed it about two weeks ago on my iPad, and I reached out to David. He responded within minutes and told me how to resolve the issue. Extremely pleased by that! The app is valuable enough to me, that when I renewed, I opted for automatic annual renewals. As a road cyclist, this is an extremely useful addition to my riding 'kit'. Thank you David!
T.O. Double Dizzle,
Wow!
I have been using this app for several years, but I am giving a review now for the first time. Everything about this app is awesome. I pair it up with my Ride With GPS routes and it gives me an accurate weather forecast, including wind direction along the route.

I had a pretty major hiccup today. I was basically locked out as I was trying to get a forecast for a century that I am riding tomorrow. I trashed the app and then downloaded it again... no luck. I wrote the developer, David Green, and he responded right away and said that the problem got fixed on his end. Seriously amazing support!

Welshman in Florida,
Accurate weather forecast at your fingertips!
Do not get on you bike with checking this app first. Living in Tampa Bay it is essential at this time of year (Spring leading into Summer) to check on the conditions especially as we approach another hurricane season; the afternoon storms and potential for lightning strikes increases dramatically so it is essential to check what I could be riding into before I set out and the ability to do so hours in advance is an added plus.

The wind arrows are especially useful and on a number of occasions I have been able to prepare myself for rides and not experience the unexpected gusts out of nowhere!

Overall a great tool and very inexpensive for a one year subscription. This is a “Yellow Jersey” app.
LGRose1,
Amazing app, amazing support
7 friends and I are about to embark on a 3-day ride from Grand Junction, CO to Moab, UT later this week.

Given that it’s early May in the Rockies, we are concerned about weather (including possible snow). I discovered Epic Ride Weather, and uploaded our route. The .gpx file has all 3 days as one ride, so I couldn’t figure out how to separate each day’s ride for accessing the weather for each day, as the app assumed I was riding straight through, without stopping at designated spots each day.

I reached out to the developer, David Green, on a Saturday morning, and within minutes, he responded and walked me through how to accomplish what I was trying. I now know the forecast for each day’s segment, and was happy to learn that there was no rain or snow in the forecast (I’m wondering if David can do anything about the expected headwinds!).

Thanks, David, for a great app and even better support.
Bdrseth,
Perfect for Colorado’s Changing Weather
I ride four season on road, gravel and trail at wide-ranging elevations. When planning my routes I use the app to check conditions and often pick which direction for circuit rides...particularly thanks to the wind arrows. The app pulls my Strava rides quite easily and makes it easy to scan my options...and put the wind at my back on climbs. I’ll check in advance and then again before setting out.

It does one thing and does it well...weather for your ride. It’s simplicity is its strength.
Lglebb,
Great product but slipping
I wish I could give it 4.5 stars. It's really a great product but lately it's been slipping. There has been a performance downgrade in soled and accuracy since the shift to Apple weather. I'm. It sure what service they were using before but at least in my experience they absolutely nailed it. Since then the accuracy has been fine but noticeably like accuracy than before. Also the speed, loading, etc has decreased since the switch. I'm not sure if that's related or not.

Better Than All The Other Weather Forecasters
After a concern about the app, the explanation I received was very prompt I was able to discussed the situation with our Group Leader and since we were looking at the total area for our rides we saw no reason to suggest a change in the way they handled the data for rides. The weather predictions and forecasts for the days we ride are spot on
.
Keep up the good work. Your forecasting is better then The Weather Channel and local weather combined.
De2r2,
Great app
I’m a weather aficionado and I love this app for understanding the weather forecast along a ride route. Here in N California we live with wildly differing microclimates across fairly short distances and times. This app looks at the weather forecast along the route at the time we will be there, showing the expected effect of those microclimates. I could dig this out from localized weather forecasts, but this is so much easier and faster. Love it!
