ddd8896,
THE app to prepare you for your cycling goals
I haven’t had any prior experience training with structure or using intervals as a training tool in the past. I took on a lofty goal of finishing Unbound 200 and after getting 4 months of zone 2 base miles in my legs using Zwift, I decided to try and ultimately commit to Trainer Road to help me reach the finish line. I learned a lot for their Ask a Cycling Coach Podcast which built a base of knowledge to supplement the training with the app. I feel like I went 0-100 with all of the resources they provide across all of their platforms. I adhered to the training plan it created for me very closely after taking into account my goals and schedule. I trained for 9 months with TR leading up to Unbound and I’m proud to say I finished through the terrible conditions on course. Mud, wind, heat, lightning storm, hours of rain, a little hail, more mud, a mechanical. NOT ONCE during the race did I doubt my legs. I charged up every named climb clean, the repeatability I inherited is like nothing I’ve ever experienced in my few years of casual cycling. Thank you Trainer Road for your help, I’m continuing to train with the platform with bigger goals in the future (Unbound 200 again, Gravel Worlds 300, BC Epic in the years to come). If you’re wondering if the cost is worth it, I’m here to say it’s a no-brainer 👍🏼

Can’t Share This Enough
TrainerRoad has changed my life. I’ve been riding regularly for 5+ years, entered races for fun, raced competitively as well as worked in a bike shop for most of those years. I battled with the elitist attitude in the cycling world regularly and mainly just wanted to get myself and others out and ride. I had never cared or given much thought to statistics besides miles, speed, and cadence. Last year I was signed on to a local racing team and knew I needed more “training” but the other riding/training app didn’t bring any motivation to the table. We have cold winters in South Dakota and indoor rides are a must. A friend and fellow cyclist recommended TrainerRoad and immediately I was hooked. The team has put so
much work into tailoring each block, educational and motivational text during rides, not to mention and the podcast and forums. Using TR makes me excited about the next ride as soon as I finish one. I tell everyone I know that rides about it because it is a beautiful balance between beginner and elite cycling and I cannot thank y’all enough.
Jmc86,
Worth it
I started riding again in 2019 after a 7 year hiatus. I was an overweight powerlifter and couldn’t tie my shoes without getting out of breath. I was depressed and needed a big change to bothsee myself differently and feel good again. This program has given me the tools I needed to get out of my own head and enjoy cycling again. I don’t have power numbers from my 20s and 30s to compare to because hr was the only affordable option for me back then. I will say that with this program, I started with a 177 ftp in 2019 and am currently at 285. The new features with adaptive training are wonderful. I could go on, but TR is worth every penny. If you’re hesitant just listen to the podcast and you’ll hear many similar stories. Update- just used the new ftp detection feature and @ 288 now!
LvsMusic7,
Great app...but
I have a lot of good things to say about this app and the program, overall. However, there is something (obvious) missing — when TR begins sharing its data with Apple Activity & Health apps I will update to 5 stars.

The Sensor pairing has improved tremendously since the early releases. The in ride experience has also improved. The entire TR experience is fairly transparent during a ride and that is a good thing as it allows me to focus on riding and not the app itself. I also love the custom workout creator. I have looked at EVERY cycling app on the market (and I develop iOS apps) and can say that these guys got it right. TR is worth every penny of the subscription price.

I do wish there was a better visual for staying in my power zone. I like the horizontal slider and that TR will notify me if I stray too far... but I want to see more than a ‘dot’ for this indication. I’d like to see the entire range (% lower and higher) around my goal power at all times. I’d also like to have some control over this range. Otherwise, I love the experience and it makes me want to train — which is always a good thing!
Liviu L M,
Shape to Challenge
I’ve played sports all my life, mostly soccer and had indoor team for over 20 years so being in shape was easy. However the last 8 to 10 years as I’ve gotten into my forties and the economy wouldn’t help either, I closed my team and have been neglecting myself. I’ve slowly packed on pound after pound and adapted to it. However getting older was no choice but staying active and try to be healthy it was. I don’t like running and not much into other sports but I like cycling so I started indoor and out depending on weather. I downloaded this ap and I’m happy to say that it gave me a challenge every workout and because of my previous workouts I have something to compare and challenge myself. I’m down about 35lbs and feel better than I’ve been in a very long time. Thanks TrainerRoad

1 Year In
I have been using TrainerRoad for over a year now and feel like it offers good returns on my training. I like to follow a plan and check things off so I feel like I’m accomplishing a goal and I can do that with TrainerRoad. Their workout calendar allows me to see my weekly TSS score so I can keep up with it even when I do shop rides. The calendar also allows me to move my workouts around if I miss a day or know that I will be missing a future day. I live in a rural area and actually do many of my rides outside and just memorize the workout before I ride. My FTP has risen some but more than that I am able sustain hard efforts for much longer periods of time. The higher threshold really shows on large group rides and races. FYI I’m a cat 1 MTB racer.

Also regardless
Unhappy Adobe Customer,
Not happy with March 2021 update
I have been using Trainer Road for a couple of years now and have been very happy with the app. Unfortunately, that all changed with the recent update/redesign of the app this March 2021. I never had issues connecting my smart trainer, power meter, heart monitor, and speed/cadence device. I also did not have a problem calibrating my smart trainer. The past three rides since the update have been highly frustrating. I have spent between 10 to 20 minutes trying to connect my devices which was no problem before the update. Once my devices are attached my smart trainer will not calibrate. After multiple attempts, opening and closing the app, all of a sudden everything is connected and I can calibrate. All of my devices connect with the manufacturer’s app and the Wahoo Utility app. I do not have any of devices connected to any other app when using Trainer Road. If the app is not fixed ASAP, I will cancel my subscription.
Rt256,
Regressing, unbelievably buggy these days
UPDATE: back to working like a charm, after months and months of bug fínese. Glad they put in the work to make things quicker and more stable, back to a 5-star product!

Been a fan of the platform for years, but persistent, worsening crashes are ruining the experience. Finish an FTP test? Crash. Sweat get on your phone screen during a workout? Crash. Cooling down? Crash. When the app crashes you’ll be lucky if it saves your partial workout, and all of the ‘adaptive’ behaviors., progression level, etc will be unusable. TR support seems unable to help and diagnose, and these errors have worsened for months despite repeated deletion/reinstalls. A shame, because the product is otherwise great.
BryanThrasher,
Great improvement in my training
Update to my earlier review- I have now completed 4 Ironmans and about to do my fifth. I have used TR on its own and with a coach. It has really helped tremendously.

TrainerRoad has been and incredible boost to my performance. I have been using it for 2.5 months and love it. The addition of the AI is awesome! Because TR is adding AI to a proven system and because it allows me to approve the adaptations before they are applied, I feel completely confident. I thought my training was well structured before TR, but now I see how sloppy and ineffective it was. Before, I was left to my own devices to adhere to target wattages and cadence. I use TR with a Wahoo Kickr so it sets the wattage and I have to but in very consistent work to follow the plan.
ergoio,
Great Training App
The workouts are excellent— after the ramp test to assess your initial condition, the training plans have been really good at finding that balance of feeling like /really/ hard work, but still giving you enough margin to be ready for the next one. The workout themselves are varied, and the optional training suggested (cadence drills, form on the bike, aero positioning and breathing) really help to mentally break up the workout and leave you feeling surprised how quickly it seemed to pass. Also just as a recommendation — I started by listening to their podcast, it’s fun, crazily well produced, and packed with info on training and racing, after a few episodes of that I tried the app and the only downside is that I should have signed up a year earlier!
