Mclaren_7,
So Much Potential
So I been looking for a journaling/ note taking app that is simple, very visually appealing and provides a place to get lost in your text. This app has much of what I been looking for. I do have a few additions I would like to see. I do think a recently deleted folder is needed. The app could provide different fonts. Also the ability to upload a picture or document to a journal post would be nice. Overall I like what I see so far. I see some people make some valid points but this app is early in development and should allow for some time to see if the cost is worth it or not. I believe the price is is good for the possibilities that can come from this and features for the future. I’ve spent more on new and established apps that turned out to be not so good.

I think the dev is doing a great job with this project and I’m looking forward to see where it goes. The potential here is something that I want to see progress over time.

Also I would love to see a native Mac version of the app.
JohnnyBeGood2000,
Best for tagging & multiple journals
I downloaded every journal app and tested. And contacted Everlog’s developer. After his reply I went all in and haven’t looked back. In order of importance to me.

1. Multiple journals. Not all top tier journals have this. The juggernaut journal app puts it behind a premium subscription. Everlog’s subscription is way cheaper. I bought the lifetime version.
2. Tagging. AND, all the tags appear on the left. And behave by modern tagging standards. You can type the # and see within the text of the entry. In most other journals, you can’t see the tags on the left, and some not even inside the entry. The others have clunky ways to filter and search on tags. The only journal that did tagging as good as Everlog didn’t have multiple journals.
3. Put 1 & 2 together and I can’t find a single program that does this.
4. You take photos directly in the app and keep your camera roll clean.
5. He just added the templates a month ago.
6. He said he would have video upload soon.
7. He said he would add a shared journal feature so I can share with my wife.
8. It’s pretty and inviting to use. This probably goes higher on this list.

The only program I found to compete with 1 & 2 is ‘Bear’, but that is a note capture app, not a journal. There is no calendar interface, no sense of time passing, which is what journals are famous for. My search is complete. Thank you, love the app.
Pinoydigit,
Does just what I need
I know it’s not the fanciest journaling app in the App Store, but I’m not a fan of subscriptions and this one had the option for a one time payment.

The interface is clean and elegant. Could use slight tweaks in the visual presentation but overall it’s great.

It’s been years since I’ve kept a journal and this has put me in a place of writing everyday now for a month. I’m glad it’s a blank slate and that I can just write whatever comes to mind. The more I use it the more I find it useful as I’ve now begun taking notes at church in the app. I figure it’s just an important for posterity to know of spiritual impressions as it is for my life.

The developer is extremely quick at listening to and making changes. If he’s interested I’m sure I can come up with a list, but in the meantime I’m happy with what he’s created. I use this app with an external keyboard on an iPhone and initially had issues with reading the text on a scrolling post. He fixed it promptly.

Only issue I’m having is that I purchased the lifetime plan and can’t seem to get the MacBook to see the same plan and it’s asking me to purchase it again. Looks like the purchase it still showing pending and so fingers crossed once it’s showing finished I won’t have an issue anymore.
Munkin74,
Very Impressed
This is really a fantastic little app! Anyone needing to keep an ongoing written log will benefit from this. My use case is facility management where I need to take lots of quick (time/date stamped) notes to document complaints, issues, and actions throughout the day. I'd been struggling to find a tech solution to the problem because all the apps I found were either too basic or too complicated. This app sits nicely in the middle. It's almost perfect. That it's available in iPhone, iPad, and Mac versions is blowing my mind given how modest it is. If I could ask the author for one thing it would be tags. Tags would make it perfect. And if you develop it further please consider integrating with Apple Reminders and Apple Calendar. Well done Wessley. Very impressed.
JohnnyBeGood2000,
Won me over all the others
I did a deep dive on Day One / Journey / Diarium / Diaro / etc... I tested them all and this won me over because of these things.
1. It has multiple journals. Only two others I could find do this. This is a non-starter for me many others.
2. There is a tag list on the left you can actually see... YES! And the hashtag support inside posts is great too. You can tell a coder wrote this.
3. Sharing. The author said he's working on a feature to share journals with someone else. Not just a single post (like all the others), but whole journal. Again YES. I originally thought I needed web app counterpart so I my partner could log in with a separate username/pass. But this solves that problem beautifully, and adds functionality.
4. It's beautiful. Stands with Day One.
5. And price.

It needs some more features but the author is very active. So glad I reached out and asked some questions before going with expensive Day One.
Steve R42,
Great Start. Keep it Simple
Edit: Bumped up to four stars. There is now terrific shortcuts support, a lifetime license option and bulk export. Two small missing features. One, the ability to export all entries from a journal as a single text file vs just a CSV and/or facilitate this via Shortcuts so that there is a way to backup. And also, a trash can for deleted entries as one reviewer said is needed too.

Original review....
I like the premise of this app. It is wonderfully simple. However, I have two major issues that make it a nonstarter for me. First, there’s no way to bulk export all entries. You are, for now, locked in except for one-by-one exports. Second, the subscription price is too high for what’s essentially syncing and icons. It also would benefit from having Shortcuts support but that’s secondary.
sksrph,
Ask a question, get an answer! Impressive!
I had an issue with being unable to attach photos to my daily journal entries. I looked up the developer’s name and sent him an email describing the problem. He personally answered the first email within a day. The issue wasn’t resolved so I emailed details. Next day: step by step help as to how to solve the problem. I didn’t expect an answer to my first email, so I’m impressed that he cared enough to answer, even to sending a follow up making sure I was fully satisfied with the product and the service, Which I am ! sks
Mila Mavens,
Awesome! Unstable on macOS
I wrote a review of this app before asking for Markdown checklists, and was delighted to find the developer added support for them! I paid for the Premium lifetime upgrade.

While the mobile and iPad apps are beautiful, the Mac app is very sluggish—the text lags far behind as I type, and window resizing is very slow. I'd love to see more optimizations made to the Mac app to compliment the speed and slickness of the iPhone and iPad apps.

Much love to the developer for adding my suggestion!
_Godfather,
This a great quick note taking app
I've used this app since it was in beta. I found the developer through a twitter thread one day and decided to give it a shot. I use this app all the time to write down random things I need to keep track of day to day, or when I have an idea I don't want to forget. Having the notes correspond to the date and time I writee them is very helpful. The UI of the app is great. Definetly give this app a try if you are tired of having to using the stock notes app.
It'd be REAAALLYY cool if,
Suggestion: “make people feel a little better about being productive”
When applying Everlog as a shortcut, it suggests a 7-day average for word count. I look at this with doubt and remember the days of the week I didn’t write, which statistically brings down my average. I feel happier and more productive when I write, and seeing a higher average word count has become a mini-challenge for me lately. I think more people would feel better to see a higher average for their daily goals, so here’s what I suggest:

using the trimmed mean as the new way to track word count for users

so computing the mean of the middle 80% of your data, while ignoring the top and bottom 10%
(which excludes outliers and suggests a more accurate representation of average writing habits)

please consider! (:
