Description

Make your own flash cards and take the pressure out of test preparation. Flashcard Hero keeps track of what facts you already know so you can focus on what you don’t know and save a lot of time.

We made Flashcard Hero for those of you who want to fit more than a few words on each card. You can add images, lists, and use text formatting to structure your content.

- Write cards on your iPhone/iPad

- Add images

- Group cards into topics

- Text formatting & lists

- Find and study only difficult cards

- iCloud Drive support (syncs with the Mac app, which is a separate purchase)

Study Options:

- Memorizing cards by covering the answer

- Multiple Choice tests with randomly picked or predefined answers

- Supports studying with the Spaced Repetition System (Leitner Box System)

For Teachers and Educators:

- Compatible with the Remote Control feature of the Mac app. You can use the iOS app as a remote to control the study mode on the Mac while you are projecting on a big screen.

People use the Flashcard Hero Mac & iOS apps to study many different subjects. Here’s a short list of the most popular subjects based on the over 2 million cards that users have shared among each other so far:

- Medicine (anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, genetics)
- Psychology
- Law & business administration (economics, marketing, international law)
- History and politics
- Languages (Latin, Chinese, Greek, Italian, Spanish, German)
- Social sciences
- Music and music theory
- Space physiology (how cool is that?)
- Many more…

You see a lot of subjects in the top ranks where people have to memorize a lot of “structured” information. That’s because Flashcard Hero is designed specifically to go beyond language learning, offering more room on each card for facts, lists, and images. You can also organize cards into topics (to match chapters of a text book, for example).

Note: This app is a single, one-time purchase. No subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no ads. The App Store might list the app as having in-app purchases, but those are only for backwards compatibility with an earlier version of the app. With this download, you get all features right away.

rxcket,
The best Flashcard app out there!
This will be the first review I have ever written, mainly because I am beyond satisfied with this product.

I have had FlashCard Hero since my freshman year of college almost a decade ago and it has only gotten better. I stick with it because at the time, even the name brand flash card apps did not have the functionality Flash Card Hero had, such as attaching a document or—the best part—generating multiple choice questions.

As I now study for a big test, Flash Card Hero is my go-to and always has been a life saver. Taking screenshots of concepts then adapting them into questions has been saving me mountains of time. The best part? It syncs across all my devices. I truly do love this app. At first, I was using it to teach myself new vocabulary I would come across but now this app is crucial to my future success. The crazy thing is I believe it’s a single person developing this app. I could be wrong but that makes me appreciate it more. This single person has helped more people than they can imagine. Thank you for your contribution to our lives.

What I would recommend is DARK MODE flash cards. I would very much appreciate that feature because I tend to study into the night and the white cards don’t help the eyes that late into the night. This would be a much appreciated feature. For anyone looking for a great flash card app, you’ve found your winner!
jacisme,
Awesome transition from Duolingo TinyCards
I recently switched to Flashcard Hero after hearing from Duolingo that they are shutting down their TinyCards service. My main goal was to find a new flashcard app that had a nice user experience on both iOS and OS X and was able to speak the flashcards in multiple languages (including spanish). After downloading the app on my phone and laptop, I had a hard time importing my Duolingo cards because Duolingo didn't export the data in a logical format within their CSV export. I emailed FlashCard Hero to see if they could help me avoid manually rebuilding 900 flash cards. Rico emailed back quickly saying he was building a script for me so he could convert tinycard's export format into Flashcard Hero decks. A day or two later I got an email with my data, converted perfectly into Flashcard Hero decks that required no manual entry from me. Thank you Flashcard Hero for the awesome transition and apps!

Great App, suggestions for extra features that love to have
This is a great app and I love using it everyday. I add my Flashcards on my Mac and have them synced over iCloud to study them on my phone. I have over different stack of cards, each for a topic, and each is organized as folders and sub folders so I can find any card quickly if I need to. There are two features that I REALLY REALLY wished the app had. One is that it would allow you to study multiple stack of cards together. I have 10 different topics and have to go through them one by one. The second is a web interface so u could use it on any computer I see. I ask this because I do use a third non Mac computer for coding and would like to be able to add cards while having them easily synced over iCloud.
Taco Seraphim,
Great app!
Really great app for studying. I use it study for the CCNA, French, programming, electrical engineering concepts and terms and probably will use it for a whole lot more! If you have a iPhone, you can upload your cards to the icloud and then download icloud on your pc and access the cards anytime on any device. Same thing can be accomplished with Microsoft OneDrive I'm sure.
Best part about it though is that it has a simple, user-driven algorithm based on three ratings your give the card (easy, unsure, hard). It makes the practice of repetition way easier.
It also has a multiple choice mode that is helpful. There is a lot of customization to the two different modes. Finally, I sent in a request to the developer and he responded very quickly, which is a nice plus!
Super Flash,
The Superior Flashcard App
That’s right Quizlet, eat your heart out. As a graduate student studying physical therapy, I have tried every Flashcard application in an attempt to optimize my studying. Flashcard Hero has consistently come out on top. With their most recent update, I can use the “tab” and arrow keys on my keyboard when using my iPad. This has made making cards significantly faster. It should be noted, Quizlet does NOT support such features. I can also seamlessly import photos into my cards for no extra charge (again, I’m looking at you, Quizlet). This application is helping me pass my graduate classes and I could not be more pleased with the improvements they’ve made over the last year. Keep it up, Flashcard Hero!
Omonies,
Great App: Super effective way to study
I bought the app for my phone and computer. I love how simple and effective they are. Making sets of cards is very easy, organizing or moving cards between sets is easy, and best of all everything syncs between my phone and computer. I do all the card setup and creation on the computer where it’s more convenient. It’s simple making quick edits on the phone if necessary. Then I can study on either platform and it keeps track of my progress. I feel like I’ve done much better with memorization since I started using this app. Definitely recommended, worth the money!

Good but needs some basic improvements
For the most part I like the app. There are a few things that keep it from being 5 stars for me…

1. Need a few font options - you don’t need to go crazy and give me 50+ I’m in IT and like to differentiate between command output and just regular note text. Different fonts would help make this obvious. I imagine there are other use cases…

Different text size would come in handy for desktop app and ipad app as well…

2. Please for the love of whatever replace the side bar with a simple, small bar up top. On my Mac, it takes up a LOT of space. Why? So I can change alignment, select bullets, etc. A ONE line tall tool bar could easily take care of this and give me back roughly 20-30% more room for my card.

3. Maybe this is a feature I haven’t found but I’d like to be able to tag my cards, e.g., I’m following along a cert guide and find info related to one topic in different chapters (and that’s ok, it makes sense for author to do that…) I’d like to be able to put a tag so I can say all of these cards are related to “objective 10” …. Or something similar.
Cassanahandrah,
Helpful app
This app is great and has been a great resource and very helpful. I did take off one star however because I wish a couple things were different. For one I wish that when I switch the colors of the font I did not have to change it every single time, instead of it carrying over until I change it back. That takes up too much time. Also, I wish there was an easier way to go in to making a new card. I do this from my iPad but clicking (+) every time is annoying. Yes it only take 1/2 second to click it but its still something that could be changed. This app has some serious potential though. But it wasn’t free so I feel there should be more offered on it. Thanks!
Y.Tol,
Best flashcard app ever
I love this app, because you pay once and don’t have to pay extra over time. MacOS version has really nice and well thought out shortcuts, which are very useful while studying and sync option through iCloud makes this app even better.

Again, huge thanks to the author who made this app perpetual rather than subscription based. I encountered 0 bugs while using it! Great job, and, honestly, this app is already perfect in my opinion and doesn’t need improvements.

The only that could be improved is maybe an option to add a picture and ability to write in/fill out answers inside boxes, but that’s really optional. 👍

Helped me pass my accreditation exam
I bought Flashcard Hero to prep for my APR exam. It was the first test I'd taken since college. I was never a flashcard person, but I couldn't bring myself to study from a giant PDF. This program and its desktop component made all the difference. After I turned the study guide into a series of flashcards, I turned those moments of micro-boredom on the train, waiting in a line, etc. into multiple choice moments. The program offers an impressive range of features for the modest price. I used them all -- even the remote control option! It prevented studying from feeling like a burdonsome chore, and I passed the exam on the first try.
