FRMS is a versatile hybrid synthesizer that combines Granular, FM, Subtractive and Additive synthesis using a flexible layering system.
FRMS takes the interesting and exciting world of granular synthesis and gives it a musical edge by mixing it with FM synthesis to produce a wide variety of possible timbres, with a sleek and modern interface. From heavily-dense ambient drones, to glitchy mechanical beings, turn simple sounds into complex evolving soundscapes, with up to four layers of synthesis in any combination.
Attention:
FRMS is available as a stand-alone app and AUv3 plugin only. No IAA audio support available.
FRMS is a CPU intensive app, therefore some devices with lower hardware specifications might not be able to play 4 simultaneous voices, resulting in possible audio glitches. The density of grains is the most significant aspect regarding performance. A 2nd gen iPad Pro is able to play all of the bundled presets with 4 voices.

New and Improved Updated Review
I am happy to amend my previous 3-star review. The Dev added the wave file import feature that this Ap was begging for. My only other problem was a couple features that were not working (chorder and hold functions). The rapid response from the Dev. was that answered the problem being related to MPE being enabled. Turn that off in "preferences" and ...bingo, problem solved. Based on the rapid response from the Dev. I have no doubt that this will be fixed soon enough. Even without those features, this Ap is breaking new ground. Combining FM with Granular and subtractive synthesis is a great idea that has been too long in coming. The only thing I can think of that it really needs now is a good manual. The current on-line manual does a good job of describing features but tells us little about how to use them. But this problem only applies to the less obvious functions, as most of the Ap will be self-explanatory to those who are already familiar with subtractive, FM and granular synthesis. I would lobby for future development to include a non-chromatic keypad-style keyboard which will allow users to create or select fixed scales and modal scales. After that, it will be hard to add anything to this great synthesizer Ap.

iOS sure spoils the creativity junkies
This thing slays. Don’t be intimidated by it, ignore the nitpicking reviews, and don’t let thoughts ruin the experience. Dive right in and enjoy the ride. First timers or wise sages this synth has reward. If you enjoy messing with sound or mastering frequency or whatever the deal you got going on….. this synth is fun, adventurous, and just sexy. This app tech has been a gift, it’s cheap, capable, and with all the criticism and nitpicking reviews most developers really develop the heck out of them. Good times. So yeah, I dig it, I bet cash money you may as well(cash money is metaphorical but creating cool audio is not with this bad boy on your pad). The glitch’s from the heart pack sold separately is particularly cool to me because I dig making Autechre/skinny puppy type tracks and taking the presets and tweaking them about gives me great foundation for otherworldly IDM/glitch/hip hop tunes. Very cool.

This is Incredible!
I expected a lot from this app given the pedigree of these developers, and boy did they deliver!
From the 4 layers of granular sound sculpting, to the magnificently intuitive interface, to the beautiful GUI. All outstanding.
The more I play with this the more I appreciate its sophistication and artful design.
It also comes with a large collection of presets so you wouldn’t really need to roll your own if you weren’t inclined. I just bought the newly added Suprameja Music Cinematic preset collection and it’s vast and beautiful. I learned how to create my own fairly easily, but I’ll be exploring presets for months to come.

Amazing Textures
This synth is amazing for providing textures to a piece of music! It almost sounds as it’s a living thing. Truly unique in what it offers and very cinematic as well as atmospheric. It will take you to a new world!

Can only import samples under 2M
Wish I’d known this before purchasing but this app will not import samples over 2M. Unfortunately that means most of my original samples. No problem doing that with the several other granular synth apps I use. Otherwise the presets are excellent and the UI is easy to grasp yet deep in possibilities.

Deep and awesome
Don’t listen to the negatives, especially the religious weirdos with no actual critique. This thing is a tweaker’s dream, with a slick and intuitive UI, and is useful for many genres. At this price, it’s a no-brainer.

Great potential
Really great interface with rich potential and I love that we have 4 layers to play with. It a bit rigid in it editing features but hopeful of future developments. With that said here is some of my insights.

.3 Size and offset should update when highlighting and selecting part of wave onscreen to match. (Much easier editing process)
