Nice videos, lame app, lackadaisical “Customer Support”
Lots of well-shot apps from all over the world, conveniently cataloged. Unfortunately many problems with the app. Poor layout: after you select a vid and download it, you have to back up to couple the trainer & sensors, then bring up the vid again before you can start. Latest bug: vid downloading broke about a week ago. When you start to download a vid, it proceeds for a while and then stalls and the app locks up. Identical problem on both iPads I own, and for all FulGaz vids. Have to stream vids instead. After not getting back to you for several days, “Customer Support” tells you to try something that they already asked you to try and you had reported that it didn’t work! Too many other issues to detail here.

Hero to Zero
I was loving this app! The beautiful scenery in the video made riding inside a lot more bearable! It’s also nice that you can see all your data on the screen while not taking away from the view! I thought, man this is great! I finally found an app that look forward to using. Then... the dreaded update, dum, dum, dum.
The first thing that was a little annoying was the thumbnails to choose your ride are smaller and hard to read. I’ve been doing the climbing program so it was easy to get back to. I don’t even want to imagine what it would be like to try and browse through the options. On to the ride itself. Video quality still great, scenery still beautiful. Now all your data is shown on a little virtual bike computer, cool idea. The placement is right in front like it is on your bike but it totally obstructs your view and for me ruined the experience. I used to be able to see my cadence as well as the target cadence, watts, calories, total time as well as segment time remaining and more, it was great! Now everything is too small to see and the more I looked at the screen the more annoyed I got. I ended up throwing my towel over the screen so I didn’t have to look at it anymore. I’m giving this app 5 stars because it was great and I’m confident someone is going to realize it needs to be changed back to the way it was.
Therkilt,
First ride but very impressed so far
I bought my first Kinetic bike trainer since we won’t be going to the gym this winter. I’ve been using Zwift since I got it and while it worked and was ok I just wasn’t supper impressed with the ERG mode as it was made more to follow a certain training workout rather than the terrain and the videos weren’t real.

I road the Windsor Great Park ride tonight and I love FulGaz’s HD real videos of real places so you actually get to ride places you may or may not ever get to visit and the ERG mode really seemed to follow the video and displayed grade very well. Also this was the first ride since getting the trainer were my average speed inside matched what I normally average outside. I look forward to more rides to explore different trails!

One Con I just realized about FulGaz is it doesn’t upload your rides to their server so you can’t review your past rides on another device as past rides only reside on the device were you were running the app at the time. You can get around this limitation by having it automatically upload your rides to Strava or one of the few other options.
msurapid,
Fulgaz-see the world
I started out on Zwift, but found myself a little tired of just being an avatar in a CGI world. I still ride on Zwift sometimes, but more often on FulGaz. I like the fact that I can say “I think I want to ride in Italy today” or sometimes I just want to set a mileage limit, so I look for rides of 20-25 miles. I like that I now know more about what the world looks like by riding there. I know a little about what the Canary Islands or Mallorca look like, and feel like. Four stars, not five, for the following two reasons. 1.) automatic uploads to Garmin would be so nice. Having to download a fit file, copy it to my phone, then upload it just feels unnecessary. 2.) I do not use the structured workouts due to the fact that they have to be ridden in steady mode, which is inaccurate for keeping track of mileage and elevation gain which I track in Garmin Connect. I do like the fact that if you buy a year-long subscription you get “Family Sharing” for free. I let my son-in-law ride on my account, which has been fun.
CXColin,
Update V5: frustrated before but not now.
I have now used new V5 all week. I love it. The ability to filter inside the app is great (ICYMI: with earlier versions it was better to use website to find ride, then go to app and hope you could remember ride name for search). The new filtering makes it much easier (still not 100% filtering) and very very good. New device connection is in a really good place for flow.

Good work!!

FOR THISE TRYING TO DECIDE: this is the best ride app out there. Zwift is too gameish, Rouvy and BKOOL are OK. It not FULGAZ. The videos here are filmed to exact requirments and submitted for edit, not directly posted by users. Edits are flawless.

Previous review below:

I have used this app for 2-3 years now. On older iPad I was plagued by drop-outs and/or video freeze. Very frustrating as their is no way to ‘bump’ or refresh in the hope to regain control, rather you have to back all out of the ride and restart, losing both place in ride and motivation to start over. I do note that my new IPad seems to be performing better so maybe just a memory glitch. Another point that drives me crazy: no filtering of rides in app. I am forced to go to website to apply duration, distance, toughness filters to locate a ride. Then I need to remember the name during bike setup and device connection. Please put filtering capability into app.
LuisMiTNF,
Great App, Possible Bugs
I really like the idea of being able to ride while looking at real life scenery. I tried a similar app but I didn’t like it at all. I’ve used FulGaz on 5 rides, so I’m fairly new. The advanced settings makes the ride feel very realistic. Sometimes the video stutters. I’m going to move my rig closer to my WiFi antenna to see if that makes a difference. Today, while I was about 15 minutes into my ride, I had an incoming call which I rejected. The app restarted my ride, taking me to the starting point and resetting my mileage but the time remain going. This seems like a bug. I’m running the latest version of the app and of my iPhone. Next time, I plan on setting the do not disturb so it doesn’t happen again, but the app should not do that. Nonetheless , I think the app has lots of potential. I will write an updated review in about 30 rides so I can have more experience with it.
iPhone43.76,
Another app in the quiver for indoor riding
I used to use a Tacx Bushido trainer along with the supported videos. Then I used it with separate workout videos. This year I upgraded my trainer to a Cycleops Hammer. I joined Zwift. It’s nice but its zone based for the workouts and I decided to look around for another way to use the Hammer.
I did t see any review on this ap mention a trainer other than the bkool but I decided to try it anyhow.
This ap is compatible with the Cycleops Hammer trainer. It found it immediately and I have done some quick test rides and everything worked flawlessly between the ap and the Hammer.
Now I have another arrow in my quiver of training software. All I have to do now is find an ap that will allow me to manually control the resistance levels in grades for the Hammer and I will have my training desires all set up.
This ap is a definite plus to have.
paulshaunaalan,
My go to app for indoor training
I started back riding seriously 6 months ago. Armed with a new carbon bike and a tacx new smart trainer I set out to test every app I could find for use indoors. After trying over a dozen apps I find I consistently seem to log more time per ride on this than any other app. It just seems to keep me riding more than the others without getting bored. I also find the ride feels more realistic than some others as transitions from flat to a grade are gradual and smooth and effort is consistent with what I feel outside for similar effort and grade. I have also to give Mike props for his support. I have emailed him many times with questions and although he doesn’t know me from Adam, he always responded promptly and with courtesy. Overall a great app with a rapidly increasing library of rides. Will definitely be my go to this winter season.
PAT CJR,
Using to train for Triathlon
Really like this app. I use with a Wahoo Kickr Snap for my tri training now that the weather is getting rough in CT. The videos have really good quality and are a good mix of circuits, mountains and flat courses (mostly in Australia).
I really like that most videos are curated as I found the ones on Kinomap poor. Also i feel very good responsiveness when pushing hard on hills/sprints which for me is key for realism.
This is not a game like Zwift (where you ride with other users) or has a lot of structured workouts like Sufferfest (I also use both) but for me it definitely helps to “ride” a video as it helps killing time during long sessions. Sufferfest has videos but you just watch them while doing your structured workout.
As mentioned by other reviewer I hope that they keep adding high quality videos to the existing library.
blade_imba,
Better than Zwift
So far in my day 1 trials this thing beats Zwift. I did the demo ride in Zwift and felt no tension changes. However, with this one it was definitely felt. Both uphill and down felt appropriate changes in tension. The videos are more interactive and realistic. Zwifts graphics are pretty basic and hard to draw you in. The social aspect and the zone training is probably best part of Zwift and it is more mature than this with its integrations with Apple Watch. But with a little tweaking and refining this product could run away with the show. Videos need some improvement in quality, accuracy and interactivity, the digital voice is annoying and the social aspect is weak on this app. All other things excel.
