Description

Take command of your Dungeons & Dragons game with Game Master 5th Edition. This DM tool makes building a campaign easy and takes a lot of the hassle of out of running a game so that you can focus on more important things.

Combat Tracker. Roll initiative, track hit points and conditions, view monster stat blocks, and roll attacks, all in an easy to use interface. No need to flip through the Monster Manual or roll and add up a bunch of dice. You’ll be able to leave your books at home because Game Master has what you’ll need.

Encounter Builder. Quickly put together an encounter, including one with randomly generated enemies. The encounter analyzer calculates the difficulty so that you won’t accidentally TPK the party.

Creature Builder/Scaler. Easily create a new creature or modify an one. Specify a few stats, such as challenge rating, ability scores, hit dice, etc… and the app will auto generate the rest of the numbers and text for you.

DM Screen. The rules reference view lets you quickly look up rules, tables, etc. This view is completely customizable and can even include links to external websites.

Campaign Manager. Split your campaign into adventures, each with their own sets of characters and encounters. Also keep notes and a treasure items that you can send out to your players.

Dice Roller. All of your stats and attacks can be rolled with a tap of a button. Also included is dice calculator that allows you to input a custom roll. Need to roll 1d20 + 6d9 + Constitution modifier? Game Master has what you need.

Compendium. A customizable compendium of content that by default includes all of the races, classes, backgrounds, feats, equipment, spells, and the monsters from the System Reference Document 5.1. This does not contain all of the official content from the books so you'll have to input any missing. To make adding easier, there is an Import feature through which you can type/copy content on your PC then transfer the file into the compendium. Fan made files are also available for download, so search online.

Fight Club Integration. Players using the Fight Club 5th Edition app can send their characters to you in the form of an importable file so you can quickly include them in any campaign.

Compatibility. This app is designed to be played with D&D 5e, but many elements of it can be used for other tabletop RPGs, such as D&D 3.5e and Pathfinder RPG. And of course, because everything can be completely customized, any homebrewed content is also possible.

Premium Version. The app is free to download, but you are limited creating a single campaign with one adventure and up to three encounters. Upgrading to the premium version with the in-app purchase will remove these restrictions.

Miss Clover67,
Excellent
I use this quite a bit, and would suggest and RPG player to get it! I have the free version, but the full version would be very useful. I have already made my own items and full campaigns using this, and the encounter tracker is so useful. There are many other features that deserve a spotlight, but I’m going to move on to some things I’d change.
1: You can’t add a player character to encounters
2: If you don’t name an encounter or campaign or anything else it shows up as an invisible spot, so you have to name it.
3: Having a guidebook would be very nice, especially for some of the more complex features, maybe a small tutorial to guide you through the beautiful interface and useful in-app tools.
Otherwise, this app has a beautiful simplistic interface and works very smoothly on my phone, has SSOO many useful features to help out DMs, and I would highly recommend getting it. Keep in mind it does not have a grid, you can’t add the players(at least in the free version) and you will find yourself planning ahead in your campaign for months :)
Bfjgyh,
Good but please fix exports/imports
I like this app so far despite that I'm new I've seen videos and good reviews on game master and fight club apps and i think they are good apps and so far for me they are good apps but weirdly enough i keep getting this issue when exporting and importing files and its weird i cant tell if its intentional or if its buggy but i transferred one character and their spells weren't added. Plus other stuff but I cant remember now. Another issue is i have adobe acrobat and I'm easily able to read the character sheet pdfs yet the one you get from making a character in fight club doesn't actually work. Its a bit buggy and shows that i have saving throws and other stuff but not actual showing what the stats are.
Example: Saving throws (Blank box) just says saving throw.
It occasionally works and shows some of the stats but its only getting worse. If possible can u guys fix export/imports?

P.S. Mainly applies to player characters from fight club and fight club character sheets (the one u turn into a pdf). Backup systems good. Its saved my backups i dont know if characters are good on that or just as broken but thats on the same app so it most likely works and thats not import. But good tho. Im mainly having issues with Exports/imports backups are fine. And the app itself is great! So keep up the great work! Big thumbs up from me I'm even considering on getting premium. :)
D&DDad_Vincent,
Most useful app
My children and I just started playing 5th edition (I played some D&D back in the day: Basic set, dabbled with AD&D, missed 2nd, 3rd, and 3.5, then fiddled with 4th edition). Fifth edition has been quite interesting and fun so far, and this app has been invaluable. We are working our way through "Lost Mine of Phandelver" and GameMaster has truly facilitated all the encounters with appropriate details with initiative order, turn/round management, HP and condition tracking, etc. (I have one feature request: is it possible to allow for customized conditions incurred during combat?) This app eliminates a good amount of the tedium for a DM. Dice rolling features are convenient, though we prefer the tactile experience of real dice -- nothing like the excitement of rolling a natural 20. Very useful to be able to import and export data and customize the compendium. This helped me homebrew a few things like spells and monsters. Great app that will streamline and enhance your game.
Samuel032593,
Excellent App, but room for improvement.
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love this app, but there is some room for improvement. First and foremost, I think you should be able to link the compendiums from this developer's various apps together (game master 5, fight club 5, etc.). As of right now, you are unable to sync compendiums, which means you have to manually update the compendium for all of this developer's apps every time you add something. Also, make the full compendium available from one app to the other, as there are several sections only available in fight club 5. Secondly, allow easier import and export of player and creature information. There is a way to export and import characters, but it's kind of a pain. And lastly, and probably least, set up a separate section for storyboarding within the app. You can kinda use the notes section for that, but I think it would be neat to have a section totally devoted to storyboarding.

I can't emphasize how much I love this app, and I spent so much time talking about what could be better, that it sounds like I don't, but I really really do. Great work developer!
SiriusGrimm,
To Lion’s Den
This app is incredible. I’ve been using it for years. The way your apps integrate between each other, fight club and game master, is ahead of its time. I am continually blown away by the thought you put into these apps. You are an unsung hero who’s created a masterful tool. I recommend these apps to ALL of my players and friends.

If I could shake your hand personally and buy you a beer in the twin cities, I’d do it 10+ times. If you are reading this comment and don’t have this app, get it. It’s easy to learn. You can update the compendium with XML files you can find online so that it has all of the additional supplements and even unearthed arcana. If you have difficulty finding the XML files I’d gladly share my 5e compendium with you, coach you on the simple steps to update it, and fan the wind underneath your wings to soar through all that is DND.

Lion’s Den. For real. Thank you. If I can be of any help I will.
RLS5353,
Great app overall, small quirks could be improved
I really enjoy this app and I think it works really well. I caved pretty quickly for the paid version. It’s worth it for tracking larger encounters but if you can keep it below the limit it ‘might’ still be worth it. There are a couple of areas that could be improved: It’s a little annoying that there isn’t a way to see images in the compendium, that you have to upload them (images and a significant portion of the the complete compendium) all yourself, and that the image quality of items uploaded to the adventure main image is oddly limited. I am also learning that, at least for my style of DM’ing it’s not always convenient to create notes outside of encounters because you can find yourself switching back and forth (this can be a dull moment for your players as they wait for you to “get organized” multiple times.) Outside of those minor issues I fully enjoy the app and love its flexibility. Great app!
Carrash2020,
Amazing and simple to use but...
I love to use this app as I am a tech dm who uses living
Battle maps on a tv and love everything at my fingertips. My only issue with this app is the lack of a complete compendium for spells and creatures. One would assume that it would at least have all of the creatures and monsters in the monster manual and spell list from the base version of lists. However, this is not true. When your are using all the latest official content that has been released, you find yourself having to add EVERYTHING. I feel that if this app released an update adding these things to it, that it desperately needs, it would make building complex enemies and NPC’s to the game more of an enjoyable process then it currently is. Every week I find myself taking more time to add things into the app manually than it takes to plan out the next session.

Do not let this sway you away from using this app, as the functionality and intuitive interface is spectacular. I just wish it had more content within it.
jigs0,
excellent dm tool for those willing to learn it
it takes a bit of learning and set up, but after a few awkward sessions where the action ground to a halt while i figured out how to do something, i have come to really depend on and enjoy using this app at our weekly sessions. to those that complain it is missing features and spells, know that lions den can legally only include those included in the SRD, a subset of the official 5e books, so you will need to enter spells/abilities not included there or find someone who has and update the compendium accordingly.

the number one feature that would perhaps make things smoother from my experience over the past few months would be an option to perhaps move creatures from one encounter to another, as my number one delay is usually having to manually add reinforcements from nearby areas that come in mid-combat when i had already set them up as a separate encounter.

a second might be an option to add/remove a pc/npc to all uncompleted encounters? in my usual focus on the action, ive had a couple encounters where a new player sits there politely for a couple rounds before i realized id missed adding them to an encounter set up before they joined.

overall though, i love this app and cant thank lions den enough for providing it.
Krahnin,
Constructive Criticism
Heard about and downloaded this for the first time. While I feel this app has a lot of potential, I have a few points of feedback I’d offer that may/may not be available on a later update.

1) There should really be a getting started guide/popup for users downloading and opening the app for the first time. While I wouldn’t call the interface clunky, it definitely is not intuitive. It took me a lot longer to find certain things than it would have if the app launched for the first time and had some walkthrough overlay.
2) Half the settings appear to have no effect? Dark Mode and Book Font appear to have zero affect when toggled.
3) Stuff appears to be missing (this one might just be a copywriter issue). Honestly unsure since spells are listed but not, for instance, fighter abilities. But would be nice to be able to fully build out a character and select feats/abilities and such without manually needing to type them in notes or save them elsewhere.
Chiefstingy,
Nearly Perfect GM tool
I love this app. It allows me to organize all my notes on adventurers to my campaign all in one spot. The compendium in one place is also amazing. I know WotC is setting up a digital compendium but this iOS native app from Lion's Den is much faster.

Interface updates make it not only functional but a bit cleaner and easier to understand. UPDATE: 1/28 The interface is has added visual cues making it easier.

The encounter tracker does the job, but for random encounters I use a different app that allows random generation and can track more smoothly. UPDATE: 1/28 The new random encounter generator is awesome. I really enjoy the new addition.

After adding split screen options it now allows for more functionality to have music playlists or fight club 5e open and accessible quicker.

In general this app is amazing. It is more overall go to tool as a GM.

I would love to see an ability to project maps or handouts (Apple TV or dongle option). This would give even more utility.

Edit: Updated review to reflect additions (I rarely give out 5 stars)

Edit: Dropping my rating to a 3 (although i would like it to be 3.5). The app does not seem to be updating to the features of it’s cousin Fight Club. Custom Items created in the app do not add modifiers to work with Fight Club. I have to make an additional magical items in Fight Club as well as in Game Master 5e making for more work.
