IN THE NEWS

“A full-on RPG, complete with character progression, inventory management, and NPC interactions ... The character development and combat systems find that sweet spot between being too simplistic to matter and becoming a bloated distraction.” – Gamespace.com

“Untold is a really solid and convenient package. It delivers feelings of grand adventure while allowing you to experiment and explore, and it does this pretty much all through text. It may not satisfy folks looking for a flashier, more action-packed experience, but Untold's restraint is exactly what makes it so impressive and refreshing.” – 148apps.com

We're changing name! We're continuing on our journey to deliver high quality RPGs and that means that we need to strengthen our position in order to keep investing time and energy into what we do. Untold was a name that's difficult for us to trademark, and could be swept away from under our feet at any time. For that reason, we're switching name to "Eldrum", which is the name of the world where our stories take place.

What does it mean? A fair question. The name combines two words from the Swedish language: “eld” (fire) and “rum” (room). It’s a suitable name for the dangerous world in which our stories take place. A world of strife and hardship, where nothing ever stays the same.

So there you have it. ELDRUM. It takes some getting used to. We are going to make the transition during the next few months. Expect to see some changes soon.

EvanCarlton,
Really enjoyed it!
This gave me fun flashbacks of “choose your own adventure” books when I was a teenager, 35 years ago. I could easily see this developer coming out with a series of these games with different stories, plots, and characters. Even different genres. This game has a medieval setting but in a fictional world. But they could easily do SCIF-Fi, modern-day stories, period pieces, etc. (WW1, WW2, Cold War, European history, etc.). This could be a whole new genre of video games in the App Store. They could create fictional characters which lived during famous historical events, and develop fictional side-plots that were happening alongside the major historical events. One of the best things about this game is it uses your own imagination. You become immersed, but in your own imagination. The artwork is more impressionistic instead of High Definition, so it allows a lot of room for the story to come alive in your own mind, just like reading a book or listening to radio theatre. And the coding is much simpler, so the development time should be much shorter and less expensive moving forward. I think they are onto a great idea here. I hope they make many more. I was left with the feeling like I read a good book. A very nice change from stereotypical video games. Well done guys!
BuildingSalt,
Game is amazing, ending too open ended
I enjoyed this game immensely, the story is great, the characters as well, but I have two complaints, the combat, in what I’m pretty sure is an intentional move, is very Chance based, which sounds fine, but sort of just leads to a lot of save scumming, and my second complaint is about the ending, I had no qualms with the story until the ending, I thought that when I arrived in the big city, it would be the gateway to the rest of the continent, but (SPOILERS)

After fighting Mantis in the Sleep Temple, I was completely take off guard by the ending, I thought I was about 3/4 through the game, but no. The suddenness of the ending is a small thing though, my main problem with the ending is that it doesn’t give much closure, what happened to Ato, the island druids (I forgot the exact name of the lodge) etc etc. I was just left wanting more, which is good, but a little too much so, to the point where I felt like the story was only partly finished. Great game though, I hope there’s a sequel.
sivo troiankins,
Great game!
This is such a cool game!
There are a couple aspects that made me enjoy the game, first of all NO ADS. The game is only 5$ for the entire game, and it is definitely a smart move made by the devs Rather than spamming the game with ads. When a game has ads it makes the gameplay so much less... admirable. Every developer has to have a way to make money and this was the best approach.
The gameplay itself is great as well, its a great and balanced game that is full of challenges! Rather than just winning every match you have to play with strategy and think about every move. Another cool aspect is the variety, there are different play styles for every body and for example you could be a brute with lots of health and dmg or a stealthy and agile character. If your a new player i have one tip for you, upgrade your perception at least a little, by doing this you can find extra content and find more secrets. All in all one of the best games ive ever played.
Syonx,
Great Game
Finished the game after a week with a completionist mind set and I must say it is freaking amazing. It wasn’t just story it was the constant interaction of various elements that affected the routes you could take. Like (slight spoiler) in order to save a group of nomads you have to save up 2 points and invest them in charm otherwise you can’t save them or you if you kill off the bandits you can’t save the nomads. Along with a bunch of other stuff similar to that. It was a bit rough trying to figure out some stuff (although it wasn’t even that difficult) and map how to gain the most coin, items, equipment, interactions, exp, and fights in a single run, but once I figured it out it became a lot easier from there even to the point that endgame was became easy and I was pretty much rich. Tl:dr it’s an amazing, give it a shot, if you don’t like it by the time you have to pay, then don’t buy it. But as someone who did pay, it was worth it. Great job!
BigSpyKarma,
Far too short, not enough options or character building.
I had high hopes for this game. I’ve been looking for a good text based RPG like this one and after the demo I was very impressed. The story was interesting and it gave you the feeling that you were in control. However, the further you go, the quicker you begin to realize that there are no real choices to be made. This is more of a puzzle game, trying to figure out what order to make which choice. After playing through the entire story, I was very disappointed. I was expecting it to last longer, for my character to be able to develop further, and perhaps gain some actual answers to the mysteries presented throughout the game. Instead, we get nearly killed and have to be rescued by someone else, who does the final battle before the game ends. Overall, the premise is promising, this is the start of something that could be much better than it was in actuality. Don’t waste your money, go buy a book instead if you just want a random story, at least you will more than likely be satisfied with the ending, if you pick the right one.
Gracegsx,
Thoroughly enjoyed, want more
For those that can appreciate old school text based RPG games, this was a wonderful journey. Excellent writing that richly painted a dark new world order. The journey was challenging without being impossible or unnecessarily complicated. The complimenting artwork & audio paired very well with bringing the dismal landscape to life.

I really did not want the game to end. I wanted to remain in the world, hoping for more quests to pop up. I was hoping for more opportunities to grind for more loot, gold & experience so I could go shopping. I wanted to travel back to the other locations to use my advanced lock pick that I finally could afford at the end of the game.

Overall a refreshing different game option. Could have been a leg or 2 longer for a $5 app, but I don’t regret the purchase. Hopefully more can be added to this game in a future update.
Sirlancelot2014,
Awesome concept!
I’ve never seen a mobile game so fun to play! I loved RPG console games like Fable and others when I was a kid, but since I’ve largely switched to playing games on my phone in my free time I’ve missed that. The concept, construction, and execution of this game has been a great success. I very much hope more games will be released in the future.

As a thought of advice, I would try to find a better way for players to restart from different sections of the game, when stuck, then from having to start completely from the beginning again. As a player, you learn where you mess up when you get stuck, but it’s very frustrating having to start from the beginning and work all the way through again. If there could be a overhead chapter selection that you could start back from, that would be helpful for gameplay.
EI Joe,
My favorite text-adventure team!
The world is dark and brooding, with art, prose, and music to match. Your choices matter in ways that will keep you guessing (and begging for more save slots). It’s a little short, but difficult enough that I can’t imagine anyone getting to the end without dying several times. Thank goodness there’s an Eldrum sequel already, Red Tide (even better), and a third in development! These are the most immersive, challenging, and high quality text-based games I’ve found for mobile devices, and I’ve tried tons of them.

I’d love to see this team play with genre and style, as bleak and gory isn’t strictly my jam. I would play any text-based game they created — cozy, comedic, or high fantasy; sci-fi; mystery — whatever they feel passionate about I’m sure would be a slam dunk.
Sledhead91,
Great!! But currently stuck because of a glitch
UPDATE:
Adam is amazing. I was pretty frustrated in my previous writing of this review and I actually emailed him (which I’ve never emailed a game developer before). He responded right away and helped me get through my issue, which happened to just be me missing a step in the game process. My bad! I wanted to update this to 5 stars because every bit of this game and the developer deserve it. Keep it up Adam!!

(This is my previous review, which I gave 4 stars) I love this game so far. The only thing (which I really hope the developer sees this) is I’m currently stuck in the crypts. Whenever I try to travel anywhere further it puts me right back in the crypts. I literally cannot continue the game because of this and I just spent $5 on it, so that’s annoying. PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP.
djdeclan100,
Text based gameplay + engrossing music + background pics
Excellent game. I love the background art and music. Lots of replay value. I just beat the game which took about 15-20 hours to complete. There were several things on my journey that I had hoped to go back to after leveling up a bit but realized you can’t back-travel, so hoping to accomplish some more things this play through. I got to level 13 my first play through. Every stat is important in some way but since you don’t gain very many levels then you definitely need a build strategy. It seemed to me like 3-4 points into a stat was the minimum for things like Charisma and Perception to “work”. I heard they’ll be making a sequel too, which is hopeful since the end of the game definitely sets things up for one.
