Description

Heart Rate Variability Logger lets you record, plot and export time, frequency and non-linear HRV Features (includes experience sampling, RR-interval correction, DFA alpha 1 for aerobic threshold estimation in real-time, comparison between recordings, activity monitoring & step counting, location tracking).

Heart Rate Variability Logger requires a Bluetooth Low Energy (also called Bluetooth Smart or BLE or 4.0) heart rate sensor (we recommend Polar H7 or H10)

Main features:
- Extracts, plots, stores and exports heart rate, rr-intervals, time and frequency domain heart rate variability features (AVNN, SDNN, rMSSD, pNN50, LF, HF, LF/HF, alpha 1 from DFA)
- Configurable experience sampling for events annotation
- Comparison between up to 3 recordings lets you get a better understanding of differences in HRV under different contexts in a glance. The comparison modality includes also Outlier removal
- Activity tracking: step counter or accelerometer derived motion intensity for user context (step counter only for iPhones 5S)
- Location tracking, either using GSM/WiFi networks (low battery consumption) or GPS (high accuracy)
- Configurable time window for features computation (choose between 30 seconds, 1, 2 or 5 minutes)
- RR-intervals correction can be enabled to prevent ectopic beats or artifacts from affecting HRV features
- export for Kubios
- Filters data based on the selected threshold
- Shows HR in the app icon
- Data export using iTunes or Dropbox
- Tested for recordings longer than 24 hours

Please note that continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically decrease battery life.

JimmyMonkeyBrains,
Looks like it could be great
I’m re-doing my review bc I had some issues with the user interface and Dropbox, but the developer helped me fix it. It was really an issue on my end.

Things to note:
(1) I did not realise that when I got this, I’d be looking at a spreadsheet of values to help me work out my aerobic threshold level. That’s just where the field is at the moment, so I’m happy to do this, but this app won’t pop out a magic number like an ftp value to stick with for a while. The alpha-1 value is itself dynamic anyway, but I use it on a trainer to get a ball park value that I can implement when riding at Zone 2.

(2) If you do want to go out and ride with this to follow the alpha-1 threshold as you ride, then note you’ll need two sources of HR data (two hr straps) if you use a bike computer, since you’ll now also need your phone to record data. That is, unless your phone can connect to the HR strap at the same time as your bike computer.

(3) This really does require that you pay attention to what you’re doing. It’s not as simple as pedalling and then getting a number. The instructions really do need to be followed.
Windfola,
Update V4.6.8 Working on iPad
Thank you for the iPad update, have made and saved several measurements. Sensor selection is appreciated. I will check your web site to get more information on the “Workout” correction factor. More aggressive at higher heart rate makes sense but I would like to understand the details better.
The addition of DFA alpha1 is quite interesting. I will have to do some research as I have not used this feature in the past.
HRV Logger is a great tool for monitoring performance over longer periods of time. Thank You.
D0mnomnom,
Finally a no BS app.
Bloated apps can be infinitely frustrating for data collection and analysis. This app gives you straightforward data collection and analysis with a simple user interface. I will probably purchase other developer apps individually just to support him. Nice to see an app that doesn't try to exploit human weaknesses/impulses or cater everyone at once. 🤗
MDRixon,
Interesting data and helps set Aero TH
Used alpha one measurement and exported to a numbers to graph against HR. Interesting to see how it changes when you are not recovered also. Would be nice to see pacing information added to data
Joepepsie,
Fantastic
This is the best HRV app for people who like to track hrv data and then analyze it.
Super_Dave77,
Loss of functionality
The app inexplicably lost its ability to export files to Dropbox. I’ve tried deleting both Dropbox AND HRV Logger in an effort to make it work again (and lost all my data in the process). Still doesn’t work. Given the limitations of the app itself, exporting the data is critical. This loss of functionality severely handicaps the app.
GGTriGeek,
Works great!
I use HRV4Training (same developer) daily and recommend it to all the athletes that I coach, as it is the best HRV app I've used. I purchased the HRV logging app for extended data analysis, and it works great. I sync'd directly to my Dropbox account (creating CSV files), allowing me quickly import the data into Excel. It has been extremely useful in allowing me to capture HR irregularities (PAC/PVCs), while working, sleeping, exercising or even sitting at my desk (with Bluetooth HR strap). A very effective logging tool!
radar to time workouts,
I would like a refund
I have multiple Garmin HRM straps and the App does not recognize any of them. I don’t want to buy a new strap just to use this App
jfsavage,
Best serious HRV app
This app is not a simple "show me my stress levels" app (use HRV4Training for that). It will record full HRV details and upload them to dropbox for more detailed analysis.
JumperSpecialk,
Lots of potential
Have been using the app for a couple days now to log my heart rate from my Alpha Mio. I think it's going to be very helpful in looking at my dysautonomia. Sometimes my HR is recording then is suddenly stopped- if this bug was fixed if give the app a 4 at least. Excited to see the possibilities with it.
