Bbaayshdgd,
BEST 8BIT MOBILE GAME!!!
OMG I FOUND IT I HAVE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS GAME FOREVER EVER SINCE I DELETED IT I COULDNT FIND IT BUT NOW I DID!!!
-=jArViS=-,
DejaVu Updates
Update: 3.1.5 repeat update problem seems to have been resolved. Fun retro goodness.
Wraithzyn,
Fun, but needs more depth.
5 starred, because itcwas definitely fun and worth the money. Had a good time playing this game for about 2.5 hours. After that it was just a bit too easy.

Currently ranked 10th on the Masters leaderboard, and felt that by about level 15, enemies took way too many hits to die, and my deaths were more due to a lack of patience just gunning it into a room with lightning going.

Wish there were more than 2 spells, and some way to keep from accidentally switching them. Needs to be more differentiation between classes, right now going wizard for long spells or warrior for strong auto attack seems the only viable option.

Maybe make the secret areas less lucrative. Having 9 bonuses is too many, as the first time I found a room resulted in me unlocking all the difficulties on that run (2nd).

Invisibility at higher levels becomes very tedious because the monsters won't group up so you can't splash anything.

Well of life and grail should be an on use item in my opinion, once you're that far along, you almost never need a full refill from an empty room, issues come fighting minotaurs later, so I quick full heal there would be much more useful/practical.

Fun game - looking forward to updates.
Goggles999,
Mixed Feelings!!
I gave this a 3 star for effort, but not necessarily for the end result. I played this for 2 hours. The game just feels unfinished. It needs a second analog stick for firing direction. I got sick of trying to use cover, only to have my wizard happily shot the walls. The auto aim feels like a step backwards in terms of gaming...give the player control. Period. Next, the game needs some focus. I see it's value as an endless runner style game, but with a concept like this it would have felt more valuable to have say, 18-30 lush, sprawling levels. I say this because of what you state it is: a rogue-like, dungeon crawler. I've played tons of those, and this isn't it. This is a top down shooter where you collect trinkets to improve your score. It does that well, actually. I just have mixed feelings because everyone is throwing that word out there like a marketing tactic...rogue like...I felt that in this case that was a misleading use of advertising. Less shooting, more rogue, I say. Live up to your own marketing. I just went in expecting a rogue experience, as you advertised, but instead I got a completely different genre. Don't say you're playing a Waltz and then include Rap in it... :)
Benibtib,
This game is great!
I have a few things to say about Heroes Of Loot. This game is fun but it would be nice if you made it so if you die you just restart that lvl( not the entire game). Also make a main village between the lvls where you can buy things(including armor and better weapons),play mini games( such as horde mode), meet up with other real players or hire cOmputer players to go on the campaign or play horde mode with you, get new quests, and just talk to the villagers. You should make the game longer and add boss fights. Maybe even give it a plot. Oh and the last lvl should take place in the village b/c the monsters found it and they are trying to destroy it. You should add things like an inventory where you could store things like potions. All in all, this game has potential but that potential is not being used. If you add even half of these things to the game ( I would definitely put multiplayer, Blue Tooth especially, as a priority)then I will give you 5 stars and I will tell all my friends about the game and about Orange Pixel.
Felt Tip.,
Fun game but annoying controls
Overall quite enjoyable except for one big problem. The control system is really strange and clumsy: it often gets in the way of enjoying the game.

There are two things that the player must control during gameplay: movement and shooting. The developer could have just used the very common pattern of having two fixed locations for the thumbs, one for move and the other for shoot; moving the thumb out of the circle indicates the direction to either move or shoot.

Instead they did strange things for both movement and shooting.

The movement circle is wherever you touch and hold the screen; too bad if touched too close to the bottom edge - you can't move downwards now! Also too bad if you momentarily lift your thumb and put it back down again - you just set a new "center" and have stopped moving until you notice what you've done and adjust to the new position. None of this would have been a problem if they had just used a fixed position.

The shooting circle is in a fixed position on the screen, but it is merely an on/off switch - aiming is automatic. You just always shoot at the nearest enemy. Making the player choose which direction to shoot would add an important element to the game, basing your direction of fire on overall threat and not just distance.

I'm hoping a future update will either change the controls outright or at least allow it as an option ("classic controls" vs "new controls").
Torg123,
So much potential wasted by a few key issues...
The love the premise and mechanics of this game. But a few bizarre design choices will keep me from playing any further.
1. As others have mentioned, there is a lack of progression. But worse than this…
2. You actually REgress! The first time you get past (#) dungeons the difficulty permanently increases. This is fine for THAT playthrough since you’ve already racked up a good deal of experience from the earlier levels to handle it. But the next playthough, while your level has reset, the difficulty of the enemies does not. You will find it almost impossible to progress as far as you could the first time!! This seems counterintuitive and unfair. While it is common in rogue likes to lose most or all of your progress from the prior run, it is bizarre to feel punished by your earlier runs like this. It completely deprives you of that “just one more” feeling that I look for in games like this.
So unless you want to delete and reinstall this game between playthroughs to get a fair shot at level 30, wait for the devs to fix these mechanics. Then we might have a great game.
Tunnelrunner,
Old School GAUNTLET fans will love this...
This is the most addictive iOS game that I've ever played (and I don't typically game on phones). HOL is in reality, closer to GAUNTLET than it is to a true "roguelike" per se; it's a real time (vs. turn based) action-packed slugfest, although the dungeon levels are randomized, which is awesome. The UI is basic and simple and easy enough that both vets and beginners alike will love this dungeon crawl. Sometimes the controls can be difficult (when you try to turn on a dime with the speedy elf, it can feel "slippery") but I'm sure the game would be best played with a game controller vs. a touch screen. Regardless, if you grew up playing GAUNTLET and/or love fun, addictive, simple dungeon crawls with "roguelite" elements, buy this game! It's comforting to know that if the upcoming GAUNTLET 2014 title (coming to Steam this summer) ends up sucking, fans will already have the true GAUNTLET sequel: HEROES OF LOOT.
NikkiNinja,
Overall Decent
Great start to what could possibly be an even greater game. The design is nice and while I like the concept of amassing money I also like finding "loot". While the title says "loot" what it means is gold, treasure, gems etc. My problem with this is that when the word loot is mentioned I associate it with armor, swords, ring, shields, and other items. If this game was similar to the game Bit Dungeon in the sense that on each floor you had a chance to obtain an item such as the ones I listed then the game might have some more replay value. Since there is nothing to progress towards there isnt much motivation to continue to play. If the ability to save if not items but just simply levels and stats was implemented the game would be much more appealing. Its a good start but it needs something "more".
Yh2332,
Simple, Yet Addicting
One of the best mobile games I've ever played. Its extremely easy to jump into the game and get started. Before you know it you'll have wasted a good hour or two traveling deeper into the randomly generated dungeons the game provides. The art has the classic Orangepixel charm, and I found the songs from the soundtrack stuck in my head long after I stopped playing.

I will admit that the game feels a bit....basic. After a few playthroughs you feel like you've seen all there is to see. It could use a dozen more enemy types, rune types, items, and quest types. Regardless, its still an amazingly fun game thats worth the measly 2 dollars its being sold for.
