Description

Designed by weightlifters. IRON is a powerfully simple, radically efficient workout tracking and analytics platform. For all gym goers, from beginner, to bodybuilder, to powerlifter – IRON revolutionizes user experience for workout trackers, planners and gym logs.

WORKOUTS, ROUTINES AND GROUPS

Build Workouts
• Gym goers can build workouts ahead of time with our “Build Workout” feature. When you’re done building a workout it will save to your Library. Build workouts for any fitness and weightlifting goal, like muscle growth, muscle tone, strength, bodybuilding, powerlifting, weight loss, and more.

Groups, Routines
• Create groups to organize your workouts. For example, you can create a group to represent your current training routine – if you’re doing a "5 Day Split" training routine, create a workout group, title it “5 Day Split” and add in your workouts. You can “pin” your favorite workouts to the top of your Library for easy access.

WORKOUT LOGGING AND EXERCISE TRACKING

Log Sets
• Logging sets is the core of your Exercise Stats – as you log sets, your Exercise Stats update automatically. Now, when you build and perform workouts, we'll autofill the weight you can lift for any exercise and rep count, so you don't have to enter it manually. After you log a workout, the workout details are saved in your Workout History.
• Log weightlifting sets separately from workouts with Log Sets, in case you don't want to perform a whole workout and want to log one weightlifting exercise individually.

Exercise Performance
• On our Performance tab, you can view all of your exercises and identify which exercises need improvement (red) and which exercises you’ve been improving (green). Robust filtering allows you to filter your exercises by muscle group, equipment type, rep count, favorites and more.

Exercise Statistics
• If you tap an exercise from the Performance tab, the “Exercise Stats” page for that exercise will open. Visualize your progress over time with powerful charts and exercise data. Our charts are fully custom and incredibly intuitive. We also provide quick stats for every exercise, like your average lift, lowest lift, most frequent lift, average rep count, average sets performed and more.

EXERCISE INFO AND EDUCATION

Exercise Videos
• View demonstration videos for every exercise. Don’t start weight lifting if you don’t know the basics – check out the Exercise Info page for any exercise you aren’t sure about.

Exercise Instructions
• We have step by step instructions for every exercise. Learn how to set up and execute every exercise properly and avoid injury.

WORKOUT HISTORY

Workout Activity
• View your past workout data and filter by muscle group.
• Sort by workouts or logged sets.

Erickkkkkk,
Great App but where is the update?
Enjoying the interface but a little confused about tracking progression. It seem like you just edit the workouts you’ve made each time you workout but where does the previous data go? Also it seems like 2.0 has been in the works for a while but there’s no updates on a release date within the app or in the social media’s. Also wondering if Apple Watch will be compatible?
KadenHimself,
Great app in theory, basically unusable
I love the app. It’s great for tracking progress, and it’s super easy to add exercises that aren’t included in the lists already. Very simple and easy to customize to your schedule and routine. I like the idea, I like the developers, and I like that it’s significantly cheaper than competing apps.

My only problem: every time I open the app, I have to enter my Apple ID password. Every. Single. Time. Quickly swipe between apps to change music? Password. Lock phone when putting in in pocket? Password. Spotty internet connection at the gym? Password every time it reconnects to the WiFi.

I’ve typed my password in probably close to 100 times, and I’ve only worked out with this app 4 times. Doesn’t matter if you type it in, it’s going to ask again. Doesn’t matter if you click cancel, because in about 30 seconds you’ll get an “authentication failed” pop up and be asked for you password again. More than half of my time using this app has been typing in my password, and it’s not even remotely clear why, because it seems to function perfectly without an internet connection anyway.

Bottom line: my free trial ends on March 6th, and if the issue isn’t resolved by then I will have to cancel my planned purchase. As it stands, the app is basically nonfunctional. The developers wrote that this should’ve been fixed in the recent update, but 3 of my 4 workouts have been done since I downloaded the update and there has been no change at all.
DrNurseHitt,
A lot of potential
I like the simplicity of the app, and I love being able to see and track all my PRs of varying rep ranges, that’s extremely important to me. A few things to make it all better.
1. Improvised workouts: my training is mostly Bulgarian style, and usually I’ll workout multiple times a day with different exercises. There’s currently no way to start an improvised workout and choosing exercises on the fly, and no way to track multiple workouts in a day.
2. Logging more than 10 sets per exercise. Sometimes I’ll do an hour of just deadlifting, and I’d like to log more than just 10 sets at a time.
3. Delete some exercises. A lot of the preloaded exercises I’ll probably never do, and it just clutters up the screen and makes the exercises I want to do harder to find.
4. Add body weight to exercises like chin ups, dips, etc. Used in combination with added weight to get a “Total RM” and “Added Weight RM”
5. Make it easier to see other rep maxes. I like being able to see my list of rep maxes quick and easy, but I’d like a way to see other rep ranges maxes easily as well
6. Manually edit the main screen. Only being to view by heaviest and most frequent doesn’t allow me to see what exercises I’m tracking for that moment. All of my deadlift exercises vastly outweighs my pressing, even though I’d like to see my bench, deadlift, and squat front and center on the main screen.
clarrkkent,
Good for tracking, not much else.
This is a great workout tracking app. It does supply you with sets, reps, and exercises. The major flaw with this app is that it does not support linear progression and gives no guidance in RPE/intensity for a given set.

These days, I should be able to plug in a starting Max for a given exercise and any app worth it’s weight should be able to spit out the exercise, reps, sets, AND weight. Then, when you successfully complete the prescribed exercise it should add 5lbs (or some increment) to the bar for the next workout. Instead, you’re more or less guessing what you can lift for a given set rather than being given an incremental goal.

It also leaves the user guessing as to what intensity to approach these workouts with. For example, given sets of 5,5,3,2,1 for an exercise, it’s actually NOT optimal to make each of those sets a “max attempt”. To a user unfamiliar with strength training principles, they’ll likely max out each time which isn’t a sustainable model for progress.

It Has Potential
I have pretty much used every workout app out there and they all seem uncomfortable or I have to force myself to keep using them, plus the insanely high prices. However I came across this app around a week ago, I have to say it’s very simple and very interesting.. the UI is polished and almost everything is where it should be so I said to myself ok this has great potential and I don’t hate using it why not get a monthly subscription to see how things will go... I have few points I hope you take into consideration:

- I keep getting a message to enter my Apple ID and password each time I enter the app, I tried to delete and reinstall and restarting my device but it’s still there.. it is very annoying.

- workout demonstration videos need to be improved by removing the classic black/white filter (it looks like a myspace video sorry guys), and taking the videos from different angles so the user can have clearer idea on how to preform the workout correctly.

- workout library lacks many machines and exercises I hope you can add more soon.

-the overview page is a bit over the place for me and I find myself hating using it

Bravo on the app! 👏 for me it has potential and I wish to see more improvements to come and get a subscription for more than a month.
Squire343,
Confusing at first but good app
Maybe I’m just not the sharpest knife in the droid, but at first the app was confusing to me. I think I’m getting the hang of it though. It is a beautifully designed app no doubt. The “login to iTunes” thing needs to be fixed ASAP. it’s incredibly annoying. Another for the developers thing that I think would be really god is if, I’m the workout section, when you tap on the exercise that you’re about to do and it shows sets and reps, if you could access the stats for that exercise within the workout folder, rather than needing to go back to the Page where you name is. That would make the app SOOOO much better in my opinion. I’ll probably end up buying the lifetime version because I’m working out harder than I think I ever have and I’m sore 😂. Good app, would recommend.
phillupmydrink,
Truly Simple (One Suggestion!!! Didn’t know who to reach out to)
This app is great. All the other reviews speak for themselves. Although I wanted to reach out to somebody to suggest this but didn’t know who to talk to. When I tap on “WORKOUT” on the bottom, then “OPEN YOUR WORKOUTS,” I’m bummed that I can’t order them the way I want to. I want to be able to change the order if I’m going by a “Day 1, Day 2” basis so I can go down the list and keep a mental tab of “ok, chest day done, now to core” for example. Thank you!!
APtheFahp,
First Experience With Train Iron
This app is truly amazing. The interface is well designed and user friendly. I love the simplicity of the black and white color. I have been pudgy my entire life, and this app gives me the tools to change that! My first time using TrainIron was a blast. I haven’t gotten a pump going like that in a decade. Kudos to the creator of this app, I will highly recommend it to all my friends and family!
Doctor Jerold,
Incredible, well organized life changing!
I have been struggling to put on muscle for the past five years. I had tried different apps and workout plans and none of them seem to stick. iron lets me create my own workouts and it keeps me consistent and working hard. Also the graph features are very helpful. I haven't dropped a pull since downloading this.
Buckeye 2016,
Does reset workouts that are timed
I have a morning routine that has 4-5 workouts I do for time, and this app does not reset that morning routine workout after my 2 sets. When I go into the morning workout it still shows my previous “sets” and just adds another round when I start the timer. Also find it weird that I can select workouts that aren’t repetition-based, yet there’s no way to track those workouts in your tracking system? Specifically devoted to repetition workouts
