You can subscribe and pay through your iTunes account. Payment will be charged to iTunes account at confirmation of purchase. Your subscription will automatically renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. Subscriptions may be managed by the user and auto-renew may be turned off after purchase by going to the 'Manage Subscription' page in settings. Any unused portion of a free trial period, if offered, will be forfeited when the user purchases a subscription to that publication, where applicable. The subscription will renew at the same cost.

After you complete a workout, the next workout will automatically adjust (weight/rep/set increments and decrements) to respond to performance levels in the previous workout. That means workout tracking and body tracking couldn't be simpler. Single tap to create a new workout, single tap to save what you did — done.

Strongur also supports Apple’s Health app.

Realistic targets keep you on track. Statistical analysis has shown that a beginner can expect a strength gain of about 30% in the first 90 days. Additional gains in strength are gradual and due to an interplay between neuromuscular improvements and hypertrophy. A 5'9" (1.75m) man can expect to gain about 15 lb (7kg) of muscle in the first year. Expect 3-5 years to reach your natural maximum.

These are your targets. Feel free to smash through them.

SoFloKyle,
Update gave it kinks it needs to work through
They added a much more in depth workout plan that is geared towards a six day a week workout plan. I liked the phase plans because it gave flexibility for people who only worked out 3-4 times a week. The new multi year phases took that option away. It's geared for a Monday Tuesday Wednesday etc plan. It doesn't say what to do if you miss a day of workouts. The new plan seems like it really focuses on a lot of different movements and includes cardio. Wide grip, close grip, side movements etc. Not sure if these plans will increase strength as it seems more to physical appearance. The plan also divides some exercises into left and right side but doesn't distinguish how many reps for which side. Finally there is no countdown clock for when you should start your next lift. The only timer is the one that says how long you've had the workout open, not how long it has been between your sets. Which is a huge annoyance for me
Arek Dirithe,
Best fitness app out there despite bugs
Overall the app is fantastic. If you accurately set up your workouts it will automatically push you to progressive overload and it won’t let you just stay content with present levels. The graphs are great for monitoring progress, though it would be nice to have body measurement tracking included.

It also has the only fitness watch app I’ve experienced that isn’t a nightmare to operate or doesn’t constantly crash. Unfortunately the app on a 38mm Apple Watch series 2 has an issue with text size. Despite trying to change text size through the watch app, the text in the scrollers is too wide when you get up into the 200 lbs range and turns into things like “2...”

Honestly even with this annoyance, I still would rather use this app than any of the others out there. I just end up scrolling to a number that ends in 1, then count up or down to the weight I need. Irritating, but only relevant on the compound exercises, and way less irritating than constant crashing or a complicated watch interface that other apps have.
Mogrady88,
Pretty good needs Apple Watch integration
I use Gymaholic on a regular basis. I love how this app adds creativity in changing sets and reps. But for someone who uses an Apple Watch, I’d really like for this app to track my heart rate etc. I think that would give a more accurate count of calorie burn. Additionally, I’d like this app to track the calorie burn so that it adds to my daily count. I think this app has huge promise, but until they add the Apple Watch support, I’ll leave my rating at 4 stars.
Surlier Texan,
Awesome!
This took a little learning curve to get used to for a beginner, but once I understood all the features I would never use anything else! Has allowed me to track and progress very steadily for the last 14 months, going from beginner to intermediate lifting. The data on each of the lifts with charts tracking each muscle group makes it easy to zero in on weaknesses to target, and the progress numbers keep motivation up.

Are there things that could be improved? Sure. But the developer is extremely responsive to feedback and the app is constantly updated and improved. All you need to do is ask for a fix or a feature and chances are it will happen.
I.M. Fletch,
FINALLY! a planned system based on modern research
Used the app for about 1yr. This gives me a structure for workouts, has information explaining principles of building muscle, has progression built-in, tracks everything and provides analysis.

I’m that guy who always wanted to get bigger, but never followed through with working out for more than 2-3 months. Quit for a year or two then do it all over again. This made it easy, took all the planning, selection of weights and routine off my back, so all I had to do was the work in the gym. I love what this has helped me accomplish.
P Threatt,
What happened ???
It’s not a problem to pay for quality but the interface and data disappeared!

Will it come back if I pay?

Well it WAS good! Now where to even start? I mean I know the answer is start by paying money but the interface is now so unintuitive that I don’t want to pay for it if the preview is accurate. Why are people constantly messing up perfectly good tools? So I uninstalled and reinstalled hoping it was a glitch or something… well now it wants to restore from backup but there is no backup…. So now it is stuck doing nothing!!! Why?! I just want to lift! Ah good ol’ money… ruined another nice thing
Heldjr,
Left in the dark.
I love this app and could not imagine working out without it. Now it is a paid subscription when it has always been free. I can’t use it to workout until I come up with $100. Totally blindsided by this but I gotta come up with the cash because it’s that good. Could have given me a heads up. Will have to use something else till I get the cash.
AMDT25,
Great app w/ a few bugs & terrible Watch integration
Trying to switch between the phone app & watch app during a workout is extremely buggy and causes some sets to get dropped, adding a new set will “clone” the previous set and changing anything on one will affect the other, etc.

Other bugs in the phone app are minuscule but getting the watch integration to be more seamlessly with the phone app would make this a 5+ star app.
Djliquidsteele,
Easy to use
This app is great whether you are beginner looking to pick from one of the many well known cookie cutter programs or an advanced lifter who wants to program your own. Very easy to use and the developer is very responsive to feature requests and bug fixes. He usually gets back to you within hours if not minutes.
Drooling Lamb,
Comprehensive and Complete
This app does everything one could want from a strength training app. It is comprehensive, complete, easy to use, and reliable. Get it. Use it. Get stronger and healthier.

I bought the extras for this app after a month or so, and will say this: the extras weren't just worth the price to get... they were worth buying the iPhone to get.
