A cute, enjoyable game!
I honestly love this app. The areas and art is cute, and I really like how it slowly introduces you to more words and more complex sentences, while also being a fairly enjoyable game.
It’s very simple in presentation and easy to learn intuitively, and it seems to hit that perfect mix of how much Japanese it gives you as you go on for you to start to naturally understand what a new word means. It even includes dailies that have a flash card system that you can customize to help you review words or try and pick up new ones from card sets you can find around the game.
I could see it potentially benefitting for some kind of system to “grind” if you feel like it, I hit the cap on items and money and didn’t know what to spend stuff on. And because of its nature the app won’t give you many/any in depth explanations on grammar or conjugation. But it holds interest very well, and it makes you want to play more! So really, I’d say all I have to complain about is that I want more content to be out.

So Helpful!
I love that this app gives so much reading practice, and it helps contextualize the words you learn by using them in both English and Japanese sentences (this also is helping me to start seeing grammar patterns). The sense of story, exploration, and travel makes it an engaging way to learn. The characters are adorable, and the backgrounds feel like you’ve walked into a Ghibli movie. All of this creates an immersive and pleasing little fictional environment tha facilitates real learning and study, because the practice sessions are also put together in a way that helps me memorize more words. I love the little study cards and books that are collected throughout the game and will definitely be using them to review content. I hope the app continues to grow and add chapters over time, because it is a positive delight to have in the mix of study tools as a beginning learner of Japanese. To those who have clearly put in so much effort to create this, ありがとうございます！

Unique language learning experience
This is one of the most unique apps/games to learn Japanese I have found after a lot of searching. It stands out from other language learning apps in that it has a cohesive story and real RPG-like elements, which motivates you to keep playing, improving your character and meet new and returning characters.
The only suggestions I have are adding more gameplay variations instead of only typing the pronunciation of words shown on screen. And of course more levels would be amazing, but I understand the time and effort it takes to create new content. Good job overall!!

I was originally using Hiragana Sensei and Katakana Sensei to practice, which are very good tools for learning kana. Then, I saw the note in the new update, and decided to check out this app. It’s very great and an interesting concept! Teaches Japanese for real-life situations, while also making it very fun! I can now use my knowledge of hiragana and katakana to read full, simple sentences and not just words. I’m looking forward to learning more! Very fun game, and I can’t wait for new additions to it.
I suggest more locations! Maybe the beach, or the train station, library, convenience store, a friend’s house, so on! In these situations, the users can see into culture and what the proper mannerisms are!

100% recommend, better than Duolingo
By the time I downloaded this app I had like 8 other “learn Japanese” type apps, I’ve done a lot of research and non recommended this app which surprised me. Despite its appearance it’s actually really informative and makes you learn to move on and you actually learn because it doesn’t just give you answers like Duolingo you actually have to try. And best of all it’s not loaded with ads and trying to get money out if you without much benefit like almost every other app. Should be used with other resources but I think this app is a great tool.

I wish I could give this game a million stars! It’s a really fun way to learn Japanese, and I’ve been able to learn more from it from all of my other language learning apps.
Not to mention the extremely friendly developers! I emailed the Brunchy Cafe Team when I was stuck on a level, and they helped me figure it out - they responded quickly and were extremely kind 🥰

Better learning experience than textbook
I just started using this app today and I found it very helpful. To read hiragana is a very important step for beginners so this app really encourages learners to actively read. Even the bottoms are designed in Japanese like つかうand すてる, and I got surprised when I realize I can understand it. I want to ask do I get more content everyday? I hope to see more on the app and use it as my main tool to learn Japanese , support !!

Pretty good
It would be so much better if there was a way to disable forced romaji. In the kanji quizzes I keep losing points because halfway through the quiz it goes from accepting kana or romaji to only accepting romaji and I don’t pay attention to when it does. Also, for some reason いきません でした won’t be accepted no matter what even if it says you can use kana or romaji. You have to use romaji (I tried it with and without the space).
Other than that, it’s a fun (and free) way to practice or learn Japanese. It definitely keeps me interested (versus boring flashcards).

Amazing!!!!
I have been looking for good apps to learn Japanese with and this one is one of my favorites! It’s really fun and has helped me immensely with learning my katakana. One of the reasons why I like this app so much is that when you learn a word you have to actually use it in context. As this is a RPG style game, you can talk to the characters and use the words in real sentences. It’s a really nice feeling when you can read full sentences in Japanese, even if they are very simple! (๑>◡<๑)

Super cute, but…
I’m fairly new at learning Japanese, so doing different things that cost energy, only to not be able to translate it when I’ve seen it once before, is difficult. There is a translate button, but it gets hidden by my keyboard that I can’t minimize or get rid of, so then I can’t press it. But then I lose out on my energy point if I close out of it. It could be really good, I love the hiragana class so far, but the side things a are too difficult to do if you are a beginner
