Docamela,
Favs
You can add food to faves plus you can add food manually that barcode doesn’t recognize or is not on the list. Also you can go a day ahead and add recipes or common meals write down the nutrients then add as custom food and name it. Then delete from that day. The 2 complaints I have is that when you are looking for a food it gives you all the fattening, complex recipes and unknown brands before the simple stuff if thy even have it at all For example try looking up Heinz’s or hunts ketchup and particularly high fructose free. The other complaint is that you can’t log by meals so it makes it hard to look at your diary and make sure you logged everything I like how it gives you the nutrients even when you change the amount however the amounts are not a big selection I like how you can email your diary so you can easily adjust if you’re over rather than click each thing. I wonder if the calories are under (not correct) but some spot checking is however when I put the whole day in 4 different apps 2 matched and 2 were about 200 cal more on the other hand I’ve been losing weight
lottiebgood,
Excellent resource for CKD PATIENTS!
This app is able to record your diet diary and provide info on the 3 Ps and sodium as well as other nutrients and calories. It allows you to record your foods and serving size for each item and provides very useful data. It’s possible to save a list of “favorites” to help enter foods that are eaten frequently. There is a learning curve, but I contacted the KidneyDiet website and I requested some personal tutorial time which was excellent and extremely useful. I learned that there are some bugs in the app, but the KidneyDiet group is working on correcting the bugs. Really glad I found this app!!!
Seahorse125,
Good but ...
I'm new to managing my diet for kidney disease. This app seems to cover many of the bases, but ...
There are many foods that have to be added. That would not lessen the value for me except that it's impossible to use the nutritional values for a single portion (the food values on the back of the package) because there's no way to indicate how many ounces or how many grams account for the values assigned to a serving. This works both ways. For instance, fresh raw eggs values are given for 1 cup. In order to assess my intake I have to know how many eggs make a cup. (It's not a major fraction.) For the other direction, if I'm entering a portion of an unlisted food that is, say, 36 grams, the only weight label I can find is 1 gram. I'm not about to divide all the values on the package by 36 to enter the food in the data base and then multiply the results by 36 when entering the portion eaten into the diary. Please provide a numerical wheel for each measure. (See LoseIt for a good example.)
Lunaanahata,
If you have CKD…
If you have CKD you need this to track your daily intake! You can enter your own limit of phos, sodium potassium, calories and protein. It subtracts it from your daily intake which we appreciate so much! The only thing is that it has an outdated look.. pictures would have been a nice addition and editing the amount of serving of an item (maybe I just haven’t figured it out, its just a preset setting of certain servings) but it does it’s purpose which we appreciate the developer very very much. May Allah bless you in this life and in the next.✨💕🤲
Atrus007,
Worth the Price
A great app for ESRD patients! The only issue I have with it would be not being able to establish a profile or presets for the foods you eat on a regular basis. It's burdensome when you have to go back to the list of foods for each new day. Often people will eat the same foods several days a week and it would be sooo much easier if the app offered the ability to create a separate list of food fav's. Otherwise, it's a useful app for those who need to know what's in the food they eat. Worth the price.
Marnoldi,
The app that works
After using your “kidney diet” app for 2 months now, I had a blood test done and am thrilled to say that my potassium & phosphorus numbers came in to be back into the normal range. Without your app I wouldn’t have been successful to accomplish this. Even my doctor was surprised that I managed to concor the kidney disease in two months.
I just thought to let you know how thrilled I am with your app, especially the chart portion that allows me to test what food I can eat & how it will affect the results, before eating it.
Tonyw50,
Editing added food
After saving the values for an added food item, the program does not allow you to edit, only to delete.
When selecting portion sizes such as ounce or gram, the program should allow entering multiples. For example, you can only enter 1 ounce, not 4 ounces or 1.76 ounces. Similarly, you can enter 1 gram, not 7 grams or 14 grams.
A lot more food items need to be available. For example, walnuts and cashews but not almonds are available. Dairy milk and soy milk are available but not almond nor rice. The way the program is set up, you can report on what you gave eaten but it doesn't work for entering meals and snacks with appropriate values to guide you in devising a daily menu for future use. Hence, it's utility is very limited.

Promising but more work needed
I have just started a trial run with this app. I think it will be great with a few additional features:
1) change orientation to landscape on iPad when the iPad is turned — all the iPad keyboards I have had require the iPad to be on its long side when connected to the keyboard. Using this app stuck in portrait mode while the keyboard has the iPad in landscape orientation is difficult. Using the app without the keyboard is too much work.
2) include added sugars and calories in the daily nutritional totals bar chart.
3) Allow added sugars to be included in the “custom foods” section.
4) Allow a user to enter “unknown” for items not on the label, such as phosphorus, and flag the daily totals when an item with an “unknown” amount of that item is in the daily diary to remind users that the daily total is suspected to be lower than actual.

Thanks for your consideration.
TOCarmelite,
Would be 5 stars if…
This is a GREAT app. Does almost everything I need. Would have given it 5 stars if it would total carbs for the daily totals also. You have them in the individual item nutrients list.

Many kidney patients are diabetic (my husband is) so monitoring carb intake is important as well. Please add this to the daily totals.

Also wish you could choose measurement of oz instead of being forced to use grams. Personal preference.

Best Kidney App
This app is very easy to use. It includes all the items that a kidney dietician suggests that a kidney patient should track. The price is very reasonable for a year. The creators are very open to suggestions for making the app better. This app could also be used by people with hypertension to track sodium or by people trying to lose weight.
