Excellent German learning app!
I don’t write reviews often at all, but I felt compelled to write one for this app. I’ve tried probably 6-8 German language learning apps and this is the best one for my learning style, by far. You simply select stories/articles that are written in various difficulties that align with international testing standards (A1, A2, B1, B2, etc.). If you don’t understand a word, click on it to see the definition and translation. Furthermore, save it for your flashcards to keep learning it in the future. A1 stories are easy enough for a kindergartner to understand but they’re written about more adult-ey topics (and are therefore more interesting than reading a children’s book in German). On the other hand, C1 stories are advanced and probably difficult for even many Germans to fully understand or comprehend. It’s an excellent app and deserves more recognition, for sure.

Excellent concept, weak continued support
The idea and concept for this app is excellent. My very first impression was excellent, but I’m glad I gave it week of use before rating. It seems like some of the stories have real voices reading them, but then some of the newer ones have AI voices. While it’s impressive how far AI voices have come, I wouldn’t pay $10 per month to learn a foreign language from a robot voice. That’s more appropriate for something with a free version like Duolingo. Also, it doesn’t seem like they have added any C1 content for a couple months, which is the content I would be most interested in. Lastly, there isn’t any mechanism by which the user can report bugs, errors or mistakes. I see many stories where the quizzes are buggy (it just displays single numbers as questions and answers) and I just tried an older B2 story where the audio won’t load and it loads the same single translation word for every word starting a couple sentences in. I’ll glean what I can from this app, but will probably cancel after 1 or 2 months max, which is a shame, because this would likely be an app I would perpetually subscribe to, despite the high monthly price, if it were less “abandoned” feeling to me.

Best app for learning to read German!
This is my favorite app to learn German (I have a lot - Duolingo, Busuu, Babbel, etc.). Having a dedicated app that focuses primarily on reading by offering stories written by the levels A1, A2, B1, B2, etc. is critical for reading progression. Having built in word definitions and grammar lookup is awesome. And then having audio by word, sentence, and the entire story PLUS the option to control the audio speed is incredible. You need this app if you are serious about learning German. I used to buy eBooks at the A1, etc. levels, but there was no built in audio, or grammar aids. Just subscribe to this app and you will save money and have greater functionality and user enjoyment and productivity than trying to duplicate the app’s features using other products. Vielen Dank to the developers for nailing the critical needs of German learning customers!

Love this learning style!
This is absolutely how I learn. But I would love to have 2 features added if possible.
1. If it’s possible can y’all add the option where when a word is clicked, the pronunciation of that word will be read instead of having to listen to the whole passage to hear how to pronounce that word.
2. If the English translation of the whole passage can be provided in the way the translation of the title is provided, so the users can see the context instead of only knowing the translation of the individual words and having to piece them together.
If y’all would be kind enough to consider these two features, it will be greatly appreciated!

Great app if it wasn’t locked to a single device
Good for language learning, very helpful compared to memorization apps, however unlike every other app where you make an account and log in with a password (and a phone number, and some other verification measures) it’s only accessible on the device I first downloaded it on. When I got a new phone the app automatically creates a new account, there is no “log in” mechanism anywhere. As a result my premium account was permanently stuck on a device I was no longer using, and so I was forced to cancel my subscription, which I liked and would have kept using, but didn’t want to be changed twice. Also because I couldn’t access my account from any other device I could only attempt to cancel through PayPal and continued to be charged anyway for something I wanted to use but couldn’t use. I don’t know if this is their answer to concerns about password sharing but it’s not a good one

No solution, no refund
I really enjoyed the application. It began to have issues a short while ago, late October. There was just a blank screen and no matter what I did, it changed nothing. When I was able to read the articles, they were only the free articles, although I paid $41 to be a premium content subscriber.
After many messages back and forth with the app designer, still no solution. I don’t believe they fully understand what it is that is wrong, due to the fact they are asking me to perform a number of actions that are not possible (“select this after you do this and you will see this icon. Select this icon and you should be able to read premium content”). I don’t see these icons and I have sent screenshots to allow for better understanding of what it is that I am seeing. Still, they instruct me to follow their instruction and watch a video demonstration on how to correct the problem.
Asked for a refund but no response.

Best App for Learning German
This app is a game changer. It’s well-designed, regularly updated, and has many ingenious features. Thanks to practicing on here regularly for some weeks, I’ve impressed the teacher in every beginner German class I’ve attended. This is the best way to learn new vocabulary, which is SO important at the beginning level. I learn (and retain!) all kinds of words here that will not appear in most A1/A2 materials; thus, this app enables me to express a larger variety of thoughts than I would otherwise be able to and prepares me to get the most out of immersive language instruction. It’s my only paid subscription on Apple because it’s the only app worth paying for.

Actually Learn the Language
This app is the perfect complement to more course-based or grammar-oriented apps like Duolingo or Busuu. If the readings were all you got, it’d still be great. But the ability to click on any word in a story and get a definition (and even a conjugation paradigm for verbs!) is fantastic. You can also add any word to your training list for review later.
The ability to filter stories by comprehension level (A1 to C1) allows you to get just the right amount of comprehensible input so that you’re not overwhelmed by unfamiliar words.
I’d recommend Readle to anyone who has achieved A1 comprehension or higher in their target language.

Great for different learning styles
One of my favorite German learning apps to date. It mixes context-based learning of vocabulary and grammar with the option for flashcard-like memorization/reinforcement of user selected words. In addition, users have the opportunity to work not only on reading but hearing comprehension as well with the “play sound” feature at the top of each article. The articles are interesting and cover a diverse array of topics to keep the user engaged. Overall, I think the concept and execution of this app is one of the best I’ve come across in my language learning journey thus far.

Pretty good - after I learned the routine.
It took me a while to figure out what I could do for free. Once I figured that out I’ve been using it everyday and it is great. I think they could make this better by improving the UI. I’ve had this app a while and almost deleted it because I found it hard to get into a daily routine. If it was clear what a free user could/should try to do daily then users would be more likely to keep the app and use it daily. From there maybe more paid users would come. Otherwise it is a great language learning tool. Good job!
