Description
The Macrobiotic diet involves consuming foods that are rich in nutrients and have balanced yin/yang properties. Mainly foods like whole grains, beans and bean products (like tofu), organic vegetables (local and in season), soups, sea vegetables, desserts (sweetened with rice syrup, barley malt, fruit and sometimes maple syrup), a little fish, a little fruit, pickles, condiments, nuts, seeds and non aromatic teas.
A host of other rules, or lifestyle principles, may accompany the macrobiotic diet depending on your approach. For example, it is suggested to chew each mouthful of food at least 50 times to aid digestion.
The overall goal of the Macrobiotic Diet is to prevent disease and optimize health. The idea behind it is that you will ward off and cure diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes and even cancer, while living a long, healthy, happy life.
