The DASH Diet is for preventing and lowering hypertension, as well as encouraging natural healthy weight loss.

DASH stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. The main goal of the diet is to prevent and lower high blood pressure, although there are some other beneficial "side-effects" such as weight loss. It is a heart health recommended diet and the best for high blood pressure along with healthy weight loss.

The DASH diet is rich in fruits, vegetables, fat-free or low-fat milk and milk products, whole grains, fish, poultry, beans, seeds, and nuts. It also contains less salt and sodium; sweets, added sugars, and sugar-containing beverages; fats; and red meats than the typical American diet. This heart healthy way of eating is also lower in saturated fat, trans fat, and cholesterol and rich in nutrients that are associated with lowering blood pressure—mainly potassium, magnesium, and calcium, protein, and fiber.

The DASH eating plan doesn't require any special foods or supplements like a lot of homeopathic diets. It simply calls for a certain number of daily servings from various food groups. The number of servings depends on the number of calories you’re allowed each day. Your calorie level depends on your age and, especially, how active you are. You will also limit your sodium levels to either 2300mg or 1500mg each day. The less salt you eat, the more you may be able to lower your blood pressure.

miss mis,
Just ok
First, the app does what it says. I cannot dispute that it meets its mission.

But there are issues.

The look is way too crowded, making navigation difficult. Putting all meals on one screen, plus grafts, charts, search box … poor design. The scrolling selection for servings/sizes is positioned too close to the screen edge, causing frequent switching of the screen.

The above can be overlooked, but there is a major flaw. It seems most of the data is user entered. MANY are far from accurate. This is unacceptable as users must guess (or Google) for accurate sodium, calorie, and fat content. Further, there is no breakdown of sat vs unsat vs trans fats. This is a major shortcoming.

I paid for the premium version before realizing the inaccurate data. Don’t waste the $9.99.
DarlingTess,
COULD BE SO MUCH BETTER, but it works
First of all, I upgraded to premium. For a one time flat fee, it was worth it. The adds were so annoying, and compromised the integrity of the app. I’ve used food trackers before with good success, but now I’m having to track sodium intake for hypertension, and following the DASH Diet. Think this is probably my best option for a simple nutrient/sodium tracker. But am missing things other apps are better at. Three things I wish they’d improve on: 1) good direction on how to navigate/use the app. Some things, like creating my own recipe, are not intuitive. I’ve reached out for help but no response. Eventually I figured it out. And more often I find a workaround. 2) improve on barcode scanner. Several times I’ve scanned and a SIMILAR food item has come up, but not the actual brand I scanned. And always the nutrient values are off. And I end up creating a food. 3) sometimes the numbers just don’t add up for a meal or a day. So knowing this I’m having to check and double check. Sometimes delete and re-enter. Very annoying. Bottom line, COULD BE SO MUCH BETTER, but it works.

Kind of clunky
**Update for others who have complained about the ads freezing up the app. My 15-year-old daughter showed me how to close the app down basically on my iPhone swipe up and close it. When you close it it will go back into the dash diet screen. Hope they fix the issue with the ads. Because it’s still pretty annoying.
Not super happy with this app. The ads popping up on the screen all the time actually make it difficult to use because I can’t figure out how to close the ads out and get back to the app. Also I wish there was a way to save foods so I could more quickly track foods that I eat almost every day. I also wish there was a way to edit a food and move it from one day to the next if you put it on the wrong day. Also when you open up the app it doesn’t automatically go to the day that is current it just kind of is where you left it it could be the previous day or some other day.
jolly.jelly.jules,
Good app; hard to read
I like this app. I tried every dash diet app out there, and this one is the best! I love the tracking tools. They’re very easy to use. My only critique is that the letters are way too small, and way too faint, making it hard to read. If you could fix that issue, you’ll get a five star review from me.
QueenArv,
Makes life easy
This seems to be the best app for tracking sodium (and other elements if needed). Works quickly, gives you lots of options to find and record foods. Making “Meals” is an easy way to group frequently used foods and ingredients, like a “coconut milk mocha”. I have to keep my sodium down to 1500mg/day or less. This app supports me in keeping an eye on all my foods and ingredients.
Cassidy234,
Good not great
Needed app to track the sodium. Does track the carbs, calories, and fat too which is great. Food search feature is good. Barcode scanner does not work well at all only picks up 1 out of 5 different barcodes. This leads to a less than stellar food database. Which makes it that much harder to track your sodium intake as it’s very frustrating to enter foods that you cannot find as it’s time consuming. Hopefully the database will improve with more users and updates
MisterZee1,
This one works!
Maybe it’s the easy interface. Or the ease of entering each item of food. Or using the barcode reader option. Or the fact that I get sodium levels. Whatever the reason, I’ve logged in every meal (except two) in the last three weeks.
And best of all- my blood pressure numbers are in a happier place.
Rollincold,
Needed to track sodium
Health emergency and needed a way to track intake. This app is excellent. You can scan barcodes on foods and the info pops up. Also quite the database of your favorite restaurants.

Easy to use. Been perfect.

Cannot edit yesterday’s menu
When I try to edit yesterday’s menu, the app shuts down. When I tried to report the problem, it wants an email app that I don’t use, and the link is broken on the apstore. My husband didn’t eat all his dinner, and I didn’t edit the menu yesterday, and it won’t let me edit it.
nutrition tracker,
Dash diet spanish ads
I really like the app but gave it 1 star because of the pop-up ads that cannot be closed. These ads are in Spanish. Repeatedly tapping the “x” in upper corners has no effect in closing the ad. The only way to get back to the app screen is to leave the app and not return until hours later. That doesn’t work for me. Therefore, I need to use a different app in which I can close the ads.
