I've downloaded hundreds of children's apps for my grandchildren and the neighborhood kids I care for, and I can testify that a lot of them promise a great deal more than they deliver. But not this one! This one is fabulous! It's appealing, clever, and (thankfully) not over-the-top. It can be enjoyed by all ages, though it has special appeal for children under age 2.
Like the flip books of the past, this app divides animals into three sections; you can enjoy the silly creatures you create from parts of three different animals, and you can flip through the sections until you have assembled all three parts of one animal. One of the best features for children under 2 years old - even infants - is that every poke or swipe of the finger makes something happen! They will discover with delight the things they can DO just by touching the screen! Drawings come to life, make little noises, do funny things, point out the skin they're in and what they can do with it (or in it.) Each child will be amused by something different.
Once you have assembled all three parts of the animal, touching an arrow will make a voice say (and the screen spell) the animal's name. And you can make this happen in five or six different languages. So the child will learn what a crocodile is, and Grandma can learn to say penguin, stork, and kangaroo in five foreign tongues.
This is a good one.
