Description

OMGuitar is the best iPad guitar emulation ever created - realistic strumming, 8 guitars, 10 FX, record, MIDI, Audiobus, Remote control & More!

USAToday Rating: [3.5/4] "OMGuitar is a fresh, versatile and great-sounding guitar simulator"
AppSafari Rating: [4.5/5] "Actually useful musical tool"
TUAW: "...pretty easy to strum out a few of your favorite popular songs this weekend"

OMGuitar comes from the makers of Touch DJ! It is a synth with unique interface and new-generation sound hybrid engine that allows anyone to produce realistic synth guitar sounds.

There are 6 guitar types to choose from (more in updates), both electric and classic.

OMGuitar is very playable and truly expressive. It responds to the speed of your guitar strumming, catching the emotion of your melody. The quality of the guitar synth sound is so high that it can easily be used in studio work as a quick method to produce realistic rhythm and arpeggio guitar tracks. You can also engage the autoplay functionality with lots of built-in rhythms!

True guitar simulation on the touch-screen device is now possible thanks to the advanced artificial intelligence algorithm that analyzes your style of playing and alters the sound accordingly.

There is a dedicated string-picking/arpeggio interface, represented as a column of 6 buttons, which can easily be played together with the string strumming interface. Note bend effect is achieved by swiping the button area.

The glowing neon strings themselves respond to the speed of strumming and the distance between themselves and the initial screen tap. The player is supposed to strum the guitar with one finger and place the second finger on the guitar at any time for muting all the strings (this option can be turned off in the settingsmenu). With such approach, many common guitar playing techniques can be easily accomplished.

You can choose from about 300 chords to play 99% of the songs ever written. The songs are conveniently saved as chord sets and can be loaded with a single tap.

Some of the world's best and most expensive guitar models have been sampled with great precision and act as the source for the synthesis engine. There are 6 completely different playable guitars, 3 acoustic and 3 electric. The tone can be further shaped with the 3-band equalizer.

OMGuitar has 10 built-in effects with over 50 presets: 2 types of Distortion, Reverb, Delay, Chorus, Flanger, Phaser, Wah-wah, Vowel filter, Compressor, Tremolo.

OMGuitar now supports external fretboard running in iPhone via the free Amidio Remote app (just like the Futulele).

snowleopard515,
NEEDS ACTIVE DEVELOPMENT!!
This was one of the very first apps I ever bought when I was new to iPad last year. I soon discovered it was a bit pricey compared to other apps, but the worst thing is the developers went AWOL after a great start (clever app and slick promotional videos, etc.).

They make other apps, but OMGuitar is by no means the least of them, so I can't understand what happened to their priorities. I read on their website months ago an update was coming but, of course, it never did.

I would recommend not buying the app regardless of price until they resume actively supporting it and fixing glaring bugs. Most every other app I have is updated continuously.
Tommyapplesauce,
They need to update or give these apps love and care
It seems like the developers have just abandoned us...the app crashes so much especially on ios14. When you click background it crashes and it doesn’t play well with other apps as a midi instrument. As in, nothing happens. Even when you set the midi input as (for example) gestrument pro....no sounds still play. Such a shame since this has the best sounding guitars i’ve come across on the ios, but has been so difficult to implement into my production workflow.
trtlman,
So awesome
This and the ukulele version are my two favorite apps ever.
SmiteMatter,
Back from the dead.
OMGuitar came out with high expectations, and for me much excitement. Then dead silence for a long time. That left me feeling angry for having paid the launch price based on Amidio setting expectations for new content, and improvements "soon". Those just didn't come, until now. Better late than never.
This is a uniquely designed guitar simulation, with a pretty cool interface and sound. Nothing replaces the real thing, but this comes pretty close and is at least a competent substitute for situations where a real guitar isn't an option.
I can't explain it but my first 2 WiFi downloads came with what I thought were app bugs. Not so. I deleted and then re downloaded while connected to my computer with iTunes and everything was fine. Sounds and plays great! With Audiobus support added, OMGuitar becomes even more usable than ever. Just the kind of update to make me happy and forgive the long wait. Worth all of the $5.
pastime106,
This is an awsome app- best guitar on the ipad!
Between the iphone and the ipad I have at least 10 guitar apps. Not the light, but the full versions. I have been looking for something that would allow me to take a few of musical ideas and work out the chord progressions while I am on the road or at lunch while at work. This IS that app. It is a guitar program that sounds like an actual guitar. I love the interface and the ability to play any of the chords on the fly. Most programs make you select a half dozen chords and the finger picking or strumming is not nearly as good as it is here on the OMGuitar. I collect guitars and have been playing for over 25 years, this will never replace any of my real guitars but it sure does an incredible job of helping me write music. As far as the price is concerned I think that it is a steal I would have paid double for this app. Keep up the good work!

Not Ready for Prime Time
This is a rudimentary guitar synthesizer that functions more like an autoharp (something like the Qchord in some respects). It still needs significant work to become a serious and usable instrument. For instance, the app as it stands cannot easily handle different guitar tunings, fretting patterns, picking patterns, and any combination of these to produce riffs and arpeggios as well as melodic lines. It is largely suited for strumming at this point.

In addition, the app allows little flexibility in configuring the controls, strings, and text to allow the user to set up diifferent playing positions, and I personally found its ergonomics awkward to work with. Users need an option to turn the gyroscope off to fix configurations--right now, even slight shifts in position may cause the controls to flip unexpectedly. The app is a good beginning and shows promise. In some respectsa, I found it to be a better instrument than GarageBand for guitar work. However, Amidio needs to begin building on user experiences to introduce upgrades.
thenoneone,
naming issue & abandoned support
I have mixed feelings on this app (I would have given it 4.5 stars). Nice sounding and nice options, HOWEVER, You can not save (name) your own presets as a "naming box" never appears. This is a problem if you are trying to save specific chords/settings for an original tune. As you try and save your own name you will be looking at a list that says, "new set," "new, new set," "new, new, new set," and on and on. I tried writing the company with absolutely NO response from them on this bug. It is too bad because this app is so nice in all other ways. If you are OK with that (serious) bug, than go for it, otherwise, this app's support has been abandoned for further upgrades by the developer (look at the last revision date). Based on my experience, it will never be fixed or upgraded nor will you get a response to your questions.

New developer = awesome support for an awesome app
OMGuitar is really an amazing app. It is very useful if you need some quick chords or even for playing full songs. The last developer only needed to fix 1 small thing (that was preventing the app from being useable) but wouldn't. Someone bought the app and now it's under new management! He fixed the one issue and everything works again!

I highly recommend this app for anyone who owns a guitar. It's a great companion.

I'm looking forward to future releases with this new company. Their support is amazing.
JonnHatch,
Great for chordwork
Does as it says, great guitar sounds! The distortion could use a little work, but the clean tones are where it shines. Wish i could play scales to make my way through a solo or melody, but this is stricly just Chords. The chord library it has is extensive, utilizing all the popular chords you would play on a guitar, and even some you wouldn't use as often. The interface is nice. My only complaint is that mine crashes and locks up every several times i fire up the app, and I'm paying on an iPad2. Also, the sound on mine gets kind of grainy, like the signal is being distorted. Might just be mine though.
the guitarchitect,
Needs serious improvements
Bought this after reading the hype but was disappointed. As a guitar player I found most of the guitar sounds - especially the lack of sustain in strumming - to be unnatural sounding. Seems to have been designed by non-guitar players. (the "Telecaster" icon is shown as a Gibson SG and the "Acoustic Jumbo" icon is not a Jumbo body shape). I do like the app's look and concept - it has great potential but playability falls very short. Updates please!
Suggested improvements:
- Fix the strumming sustain, please! Needs to ring out longer, fuller. Too short, abrupt stop.
- Increase spacing of the strings - too close now to pick notes.
- Improve note tone. Some individual notes (mainly high ones) sound unstable & shaky with some ring modulation sound.
- Change ergonomic default setting. Should be strum with right hand, select chords with left - typical for all right-handed guitar players. Can be confusing to get used to.
- Add more guitars - a Stratocaster, Rickenbacker 12-string.
