Update Review for iPhone 14 pro Max iOS 17
This device had been in a box for the last 2 or 3 years… was going to put it on eBay despite the software not having support but I seen there was an update 5 months ago that addressed the connectivity of said device via ultra sonic communication it uses. It now functions to an extent but does tend to crash if you leave the app for whatever reason and come back …. You’ll have to restart the app again for it to function. Other than that I’m happy I can finally use the device I paid an arm and leg for… unfortunately the lens I have ( all 4… ) don’t have a need for as Apple has updated there cameras. Wish support came sooner but at least I can use the main device now.

Makes life easier
For those of us that like using the iphone to take "photographs" and and not just snapshots, this is the greatest thing since canned soup. I can't tell you how nice it is to set the focus and exposure with a wheel instead of touch AND not lose it again when you accidently touch the screen. It give you a grip that prevents all the volume button accidents. The controls are excellent. It has a standard tripod connection. You don't have to mess with bluetooth connections - just slip your iphone in the holder and go. The app offers most everything except I am missing portrait mode on the iphone X. This is great for the older generation as a transition to great photography on the iphone.

Does not work out of the box
When I purchase a product I want it work immediately. This doesn’t. The instructions are not accurate. The device doesn’t come charges. The instructions don’t explain why the blue light blinks. The manufacturer assumes the user will think it is a Bluetooth, but they don’t instruct the user to connect to a Bluetooth device in settings. In settings there is no name of a device like Pictar.
It is a cute idea but not ready for mainstream. I would recommend people wait until device is user friendly and when the features like the buttons actually work.
For now it is an attachment to the phone that is not necessary.

Re-downloading the App
This a great little gadget for novice photographers who can’t afford those expensive DLSR’s. The quality of the pictures can’t be questioned, they’re great. But I found myself frustrated by whether the device is defective or why the app kept freezing, and this happened at the most unfortunate times. It seems that deleting and reinstalling the app, and resets the shutter button that somehow becomes disabled too... The 3 stars for the idea, convenience and fun use, but 1 star for how the app is operating. Please do better...

Pictar pro WILL NOT WORK
I bought this pictar group for my iPhone bc it looks & sounded great. I have literally used the grip TWICE. Now It will NOT turn on (there is no power button) the Bluetooth light will not come on, it is not discoverable in my Bluetooth settings. I have replaced the battery…NOTHING. I have turned on/off Bluetooth. I have deleted the app & reinstalled, I have done a hard reset…. NOTHING. I am extremely disappointed & I have gone on the website to contact the company & what do you know….NADA. They are happy to take your money but won’t ensure a happy customer. Please replace my defective pictar phone grip & I would happily give you a5 star review

Pictar is just stupid
I have not useed the device for a while. And when I tried to download the app for some reason you have to scan some barcode before you can install it, well I threw the box away! I no longer have a barcode to scan so now I cannot use the Pictar app with the device. Just brilliant.I think this thing was like $100 for a little piece of plastic what a rip off! On the other hand, it holds the phone great and is a great idea but somebody over there just has their head up their you know what.

Interference
This could easily be a four-star app, and with a tweak or two a five star.
Pictar needs to emphasize that the Pictar app communicates with the Pictar Pro device using ultrasonic sound. That means that anything that communicates with your smart phone using the microphone will very likely cause the Pictar Pro device to malfunction...or not function at all.
In my case I discovered that my Bluetooth hearing aids rendered the Pictar Pro device inoperable. When I turned my hearing aids off, the Pictar Pro device worked beautifully.

Reasonable hardware let down by subpar software
Pictar is in the business of selling phone grips. The grips are quite sturdy and seem well made. They use a proprietary method to communicate with the phone, not Bluetooth. This means the grips are only compatible with their software. They get 2 stars for the software functioning. But it doesn’t function well. It still doesn’t support all 3 lenses on the newer model iPhones. It is slow. And the fact that the grip isn’t even Bluetooth means you can’t use the shutter button with another app.

Has greatly improved my photographs. I wish the settings would stay locked when The camera is removed from the pictar body. No other problems.

Easy and Fun
I've had my Pictar for a few months. It was so easy to get set up I was using it in minutes. Now I take great pics that I can quickly edit and upload!
