Absolutely Amazing
As a super active 60+ who works hard to avoid surgeries, I have had more episodes with traditional, in-office PT than I want to admit. I have a collection of uninspiring black and white sheets of paper with sets and reps scribbled on the side. Recovery One is actually fun and I mean that. I have shoulder impingement and am trying to get back to full use of my shoulder esp above my head. I look forward to the sessions and have even stepped it up to every day. The software is amazingly smart and configures what seems to be the most spot on workout each day. The videos are instructive and the timed counter keeps me from rushing through. I am making rapid progress and am almost hating the countdown to the end of the pathway. I started by having a video call with a great PT who stepped me through some assessments. It was easy to do and we communicated well. From there, the pathway gets assigned. Anytime you want, you can hit the chat button to leave a message for your assigned care manager. This is truly the most amazing thing I ever could have wished for!!!
DwanaK,
Very pleased!
I am very pleased with the therapy I am receiving through RecoveryOne! It’s personal, it goes with me wherever I need to be while traveling, and with the text and chats, it is encouraging to not only do it, but for when I have problems with pain and it’s not working for me. We chat and I get going again. My therapist that I saw in person several months ago, and again this past week, was very impressed with my improvement with RecoveryOne and the exercises, and said there was nothing more or better that she could recommend. Kinda speaks for itself. She also said she wished all her patients were as eager to do the work and get on with recovering as I have been. Thankful for her start with stretches, and RecoveryOnes continuing and improving with the next steps. Thanks!
dwschwartZ,
Interesting concept, poor execution
I am able to receive this service for free through my insurance provider, Cigna. My review would be one-star if I was actually paying out of pocket.

Where to even begin?

My engagement began with a virtual consultation with a PT. It was a 20 minute or so conversation and I liked her very much. Unfortunately I never get to speak with her again. One and done. Everything from that point forward is through the app.

The app is intuitive enough, but…
- Videos lack basic functionality, e.g. fast forward or review by 15 seconds
- Video settings are ridiculous to being stupid - by the beach, on a mountain top, in a field. Why not simply in a gym setting?
- No audio when you are actually doing the stretches makes the experience terribly frustrating. I’m on my back looking at the ceiling. How am I supposed to know when to begin another rep?
- No ability to cast the session to a tv
-Every stretch has a required feedback mechanism. REQUIRED. What if I don’t want to provide feedback?
- Every feedback instance that is negative generates a unique email from support. My session this morning generated at least a half dozen unique emails. I’m have since blocked Recovery One on my Gmail account.
- Disrespectful of my time. I told the app I have 30 minutes maximum - it generated a routine that was easily 45 min.

I really hated this app and the experience. As they say in baseball, “a swing and a miss”.

Life Changing
I have unfortunately been a regular user of traditional physical therapy for many, many years. My results and experiences with the traditional pathways have always been substandard, and logistically nearly impossible to manage for any extended duration.

RecoveryOne has been a game changer for me. I was able to use the pathways both before and after my knee replacement. The difference this has made in accelerating and helping me feel in control of my recovery is absolutely stunning. I have felt supported at every step by the professionals behind the digital tools, and any and every question that I have had at any point has been immediately resolved and taken into consideration. I cannot say enough good things about this team and about this tool.
Lisa1970Rose,
A Blessing
A right hip ache for many years, then lower back started acting up . I’ve had a desk job for over 25 years. My exercising dwindled over the years because of my hip. People told me my aches were a normal part of aging. I wish I had RecoveryOne sooner. I could’ve prevented my hip and back from getting out of hand. I am thankful now for my healing in process. I can do it in the comfort of my living room. I don’t miss work. I can even break up my assigned exercises throughout the day . The chat is is helpful with questions and so encouraging when I’m discouraged from a flare up. I highly recommend RecoveryOne. I’ve already mentioned it to co workers. Best wishes on your healing journey .
Elisabeth s,
I have benefitted from RecoveryOne
I have been using the RecoveryOne program for 5 weeks. It is exact what I wanted.
I’m a busy working mom and I need to work on my lower back. I don’t have a lot of time to schedule PT. This app has been perfect.
I work out when I want and I feel that I am getting stronger. I am learning how to protect my back now that I am getting the appropriate muscle strength. I do the RecoveryOne program for 20 minutes 6 times a week (average is 3 times a week, I think)
My only request is for RecoveryOne to extend their program to a maintenance program after I’m healthier.
Rutikazooty,
Pretty good app
Now that I’ve been using for about 2 months:
Biggest pro: I realize that many of the exercises are functional — helping build everyday activity strength and stability (balance work for example) for the weakened body part (in my case, my left hip). This is in contrast to the more traditional exercises that my IRL PT assigned before this program which were more focused on building direct strength and flexibility in hip, shoulder girdle, and glutes that would help carry the workload.

Biggest con: I’ve had continued issue with the audible beep sound that counts reps. Dealt with tech support. Only solution so far is to delete app and reinstall. I’ve done this a few times now. Nope that’s not a solution. Solve the problem tech folks.

I think that videos and written instructions are sometimes confusing. I think they should test those videos with real injured non-athletic consumers and see if they are doing the exercise properly. If not, redo the video with appropriate adjustments and alignment tips. Focus group test again and repeat.
CurtisFinney,
Not good enough - Hope my employer is not paying a lot for this
I’ve used other physical therapy helpers and this is no better- actually I found it worse. It should offer more than just a beep for each movement - especially when they are complex. I would expect the app to offer more granularity to help me time my movements correctly. Also not offering haptic feedback to an Apple Watch is a big miss. I find my simple Haptic Workout Timer App that cost me a dollar or two to be more helpful as you can set a time for a set with a rest time and then set the number of reps.

Clicking guided exercise didn’t give me the option for my phone to watch me and help correct my form. This is the only reason I signed up.

If you accidentally advance an exercise, you can’t go back and actually do it.
phillandry,
A Great App
I am in agreement with the review who wrote “Absolutely Amazing”. Not to take away from the app but it would be nice to have the ability to leave a message in the exercise. The feedback is always great, timely and encouraging. Another recommendation is for them to get rid of the close captioning (or at least have the option to turn it off). The captioning blocks the view on certain exercises. But these are minor (but should be fixed). Overall, it’s a great app.
Iphonekat11,
Good but could be better
The patient service of both the PTs and Health coaches are great. They are very responsive and quick to modify exercises based on what is available in my home. The videos are very detailed with comprehensive explanations of what is needed. I can mirror the app to my TV to get a good view. An app for Apple TV would be really nice but not a deal breaker. This app could be a lot better when guidance is selected. An audible count of reps or a 5 second countdown for timed reps would be very beneficial especially when doing some of the supine exercises.
