Keeps crashing
It is the best surf session tracking app when it is working. However, it’s been crashing all day today. Storage cleanup, reinstalling, etc… don’t help. PC sync never registers session time right. This app is a must have if you have the watch. I got iPhone specifically so I can use it. Can you please fix crashing issues? The watch price went up, so you should have adequate resources for proper maintenance. UPDATE: hats off to dev team: crashing issue fixed within 3 days. Can’t change star rating but would rate solid 4.5 now.
UPDATE#2: 3 hours after the app started working is crashing again after 3 sec of starting it. Thank God my last season synced to Surfline during uptime. Keeping 1 start for now.

NOT RELIABLE
I got this $400 watch as a Christmas gift with normal expectations. I followed the app directions, got the watch to sync and off I went to surf. It tracks distance and GPS locations well but the wave count is WAY off. I surf in Southern California where the waves are really consistent. I catch 6-8 in an hour where the watch shows 1 wave. Today was the breaking point, I caught a head high wave at least 120 yards long with 4 solid backhand snaps. I then check the watch and NOTHING. I will still use it to track my distance but wave count BLOWS, straight up garbage!

The ripcurl GPS 2 watch seems to track surfing more accurate than the previous watch. However, I guess it disregards short distance waves. Previous version used to included every attempt you paddle, whereas this one seems to record only 20 meters long waves or longer than that.
Swimming in the pool was very disappointing. I swam 4.4 Km whileas the watch recorded 6.4 km. The photo was very odd, as if I had swum in dry surfaces areas adjacent to the pool. I noticed there is a delay on speed. When you have just completed a set and are waiting to go for another, the speed last few seconds until goes to zero speed.
Please reply whether you can fix these items above. I enjoy the watch despite of these negative points...

Terrible
Just bought the watch and was hoping to keep track of all my surf and other activities. I guess the watch tracks ok 🤷🏽♂️ but the app and or watch is crap. Data doesn’t sync correctly. It only worked well for about 3 days. After that app crashed, data wouldn’t download and icon kept spinning. Had to resync and re-pair watch to phone several times. Even had to delete and reload app 3 X already! Ripcurl says they have a cloud server but not all data came back. Went for a surf this evening and data download icon is still spinning ..🙄
Do yourself a favor and buy an Apple Watch and use a different app.
If anyone actually responds to this rating fro Ripcurl and fixes the problems I’ll update.
Gonna see if I can return the watch.

Must have Surf watch
I tried Garmins surf watch first. It was unbelievably terrible and inaccurate.(their surf app that is). I returned that watch and bought RipCurls Search GPS. It is hands-down the Most Accurate, Reliable, and Durable Surf watch I’ve used yet. If you are looking for a “Surf watch” look no further. This watch takes your already fun surf session into an amazing adventure!

Needs a lot of work
Always having problems. Love the idea of the watch and love it when it works but now it won’t even let me log in, I’ve deleted and reinstalled. I went to my laptop and installed there and it lets me log in but just spins “busy”. Tells me “oops we have a problem”. Lost a bunch of surfs. The people I’m “following” I’m not getting their updated surfs since Jan 1. No kidding. $400 waste of money!!!! Can’t anybody come out with a better app???

Has never worked right
In the 5 years I‘ve used the app it has never worked properly. On my iPad it freezes up every time I re-open it so I have to delete and reinstall the app to sync with the watch. It has worked with the USB cord on my PC periodically over the years, but currently the watch and PC are not syncing at all. It seems to function as it is supposed to on my wife’s iPhone, so I guess it should only be sold as iPhone compatible.

Unreliable
Little to no quality control on this app/ watch. 1/2 the time it works, the other one of many issues occurs and then corrects itself later.
App could use some enhancements to help go directly to the start of a wave (skipping all the padding before the wave) as an option!

Keeps getting worse with every update
After the crashing fix, now I can’t View my profile or clubs. I get an error message that says: “Having trouble fetching data”. It’s also having problems uploading my latest sessions. Seriously Ripcurl, you guys need to take your app development team out to the parking lot and beat them mercilessly with pool noodles!

Very Very Bad
I am lucky if I can sync properly 10% of the time to get a wave and wind report. Very rare to actually get a wave and wind report on this watch. It will sync my runs and surfs properly enough but cannot EVER get a wind and wave report with Surfline on in the app. Wave counter only works properly on head high waves so no groveler waves. This idea was great but execution is very poor. Disappointed in this product from a reputable company.
