Description

Routinist helps you achieve goals and build habits by scheduling time for them as part of your everyday routines.

***WHY***

I built Routinist because I got tired of having excuses for why I wasn’t taking action on my goals: I don’t have time... I’m too tired… I forgot… etc. Routinist eliminates these excuses for me.

Becoming a better you is hard. It requires motivation, planning, commitment and execution. Only you can keep yourself motivated and committed over the long term. The purpose of Routinist is to help with the planning and execution parts, so you can improve your health, achieve your goals, and continue becoming a better you.

***HOW***

Step 1: List your typical morning routine actions and estimate time for each action. This can be super simple (get ready for day for 45 mins), or as detailed as you like (floss 1m, brush 3m , shower 10m, shave 5m, etc.).

Step 2: Enter your desired sleep and Go Time (the time you need to leave for work).

Step 3: Add new actions (those small steps towards your goals like flossing or exercising) and their estimated time, and insert them into your routine.

Routinist uses this info to remind you when to wake up and go to bed so you have time for your routines and get the sleep you need. Take action during the time you most control: your mornings and evenings. Routinist removes the ‘when’ so you can focus on the ‘what’.

***WHAT***

• Build morning (and evening!) routines
• Wake up and bed time reminders
• Understand your time constraints and prioritize
• Reduce decision fatigue
• Routines sync with your Apple Calendar!
• Optimize your routine: tweak the time, order and frequency of actions for any routine any time (yes – even during an active routine)
• Complete actions, skip actions, and undo skip/complete as needed
• Continuously updated routine completion times
• Timers & notifications for each action
• Apple Watch! Complete, Skip, Pause & Resume from the notifications on the Apple Watch or iPhone notification center
• Flexibility: schedule actions on certain days each week or every x days, x weekdays, etc.
• Progress Tracking for a birds eye view of your progress
• Detailed History of every routine
• Dark Mode
• 120+ action ideas with suggested times

***WHO***

You.

Routinist is probably very different from any other app you’ve tried, and it takes some getting used to. But I strongly believe this unique approach to achieving your goals will make your life better.

“Anyone can list out their goals, but they will be quickly abandoned without the help of an app like this… No other goal app compares to Routinist. Worth the time to learn.”

“This app enabled me to establish a regular morning routine for the first time in my 45 years of life.”

“If you have different times for leaving to work/school everyday but similar morning tasks this is perfect. It is worth the time to try it.”

"Your app has enormous potential in helping others reach theirs."

***WHEN***

Now!

2019.1
2019-06-05
Version 2019.1:

SUMMARY

Routinist was built to focus on the time you can most easily control, your mornings and evenings. However, many of you have requested the capability to create mid-day or one-off routines for the things that don't always fit into your mornings or evenings (Gym, Study, Lunch, etc).

*** NEW PREMIUM FEATURE ***
• Other Routines -> Premium Subscribers can now create unlimited additional routines. I think you'll really enjoy interacting with these updated, yet familiar routines. And I hope they help you accomplish even more.

*** SOME OF MY NEXT TO DOs ***
• Calendar Sync - Add the ability to pick which Calendar your routines are assigned to (routines currently appear in the default Calendar).
• Other Routines - Add the ability to set start time reminders for these mid-day routines (I would suggest trying Apple's Reminders app in the meantime).

Please email [email protected] if you have thoughts/questions/suggestions/etc.

Version 4.7:

Minor bug fix.

Version 4.6:

This update fixes a bug that started causing Routinist to crash for many long-time, loyal customers on June 15th. Unfortunately, on June 14th, an unexpected personal matter came up that has required 100% of my time and energy until now.

To all of you who emailed or left reviews, thank you so so much! Even if the reviews were negative, it shows that you care about Routinist, and I really appreciate that!

I'll be responding to all emails as soon as I can with more detail about what happened & why. If anyone else has questions or if you are curious for more details, please email me: [email protected]

Long Live Routinist!

Version 4.5 notes were:

• A bug was introduced with the nag me feature where the app could crash in some scenarios if an action was skipped or a routine was paused. I think this one has finally been squashed.

Version 4.2 notes were:

*** NEW FEATURES ***
• Nag Me Notifications -> Sometimes we get distracted during an active routine or forget the routine was paused. With Nag Me enabled...
• When an action is late, you get reminders after 2, 5 & 10 minutes.
• When a routine is paused, you get reminders after 5, 10 & 15 minutes.

• Stop Screen From Sleeping -> Your iPhone will not go to sleep when Routinist is open and a routine is active. This setting is off by default.

Version 4.1 notes were:

*** NEW PREMIUM FEATURE ***
• Calendar Sync -> Morning and evening routines are now able to auto-schedule as Apple Calendar Events and the events update as you update your routine.

Version 4.02 notes were:

Minor cosmetic tweaks and bug fixes.

Version 4.0 notes were:

SUMMARY

Since the inception of Routinist, one set of features has stood out as the most requested by a long shot. In this major update, we’ve implemented that feature set (Premium subscribers only), changed our business model, added iPhone X support, and added various improvements.

*** NEW PREMIUM FEATURES ***
• Stats -> Simple & motivating statistics like streaks and stats on how many actions/minutes/routines you've completed.

• Progress Tracking -> A beautiful calendar view that provides a bird’s eye view of your progress. Each day on the calendar has a circle around it if progress was made on that routine. The circles are colored corresponding to the minutes completed, skipped, and incomplete. Streaks are indicated by connecting circles.

• Detailed History -> Tap on any routine in Progress Tracking’s calendar view to drill into the exact history of that routine! Applies to routines started after this update.

A lot of app surgery was performed to get this historical information up and running, but Routinist now has an excellent foundation that will allow me to present your history in more and more meaningful ways to you. Feel free to send me any suggestions as to stats that could be shown or how I can present your information to best help you make improvements to your life.

*** IMPROVEMENTS ***
• iPhone X support
• Bug fixes
• Design updates

*** BUSINESS MODEL CHANGE ***
• Routinist has changed to a subscription-based business model (see the Premium page for more details and explanation as to why this change was made).

• Current Premium users: You are not losing any access to features you’ve paid for (if this were to ever happen in the future, I will notify you). As far as the new subscription-based features go, you will have access to these for FREE for a while (for timeframe, see note upon next login). Thank you so much for your support!

• Current Free users: You are not losing any access to features you’ve had (if this were to ever happen in the future, I will notify you).

Please email [email protected] if you have thoughts/questions/suggestions/etc.

Version 3.5:

Bug Fixes

Version 3.4 notes:

***IMPROVEMENTS***
• Prorated Completion Times -> If you mark multiple actions complete within 10 seconds of each other ("stringed actions"), Routinist now smartly prorates the total time between the stringed actions (based on a ratio of your estimated times). Sometimes we remember and complete multiple actions without immediately checking off each action as we complete it. This feature approximates the time each action took instead of allocating all the time of the stringed actions to the first action in the string.
• 3rd-Shift Worker Ready -> You can now set your Go-Time to anytime of the day (including PM hours)!
• 24-Hour Time -> For those who use 24-hour time on their phones, Routinist now displays all times in as 24-hour times.

The all-time average US App Store rating is only 3.3 stars. If you think Routinist deserves better than that, please take a minute to give us a rating. Just tap the Routinist icon, -> tap “Review” -> tap “Write a Review”.

Please email [email protected] if you have thoughts/questions/suggestions/etc.

Version 3.3 notes:

*** NEW ***
• Light, Dark or Mixed Mode -> This version introduces dark mode. Routinist will default to a mixed mode (morning routines will be light, evening routines will be dark), and there are options to change to dark or light mode in settings.

Version 3.2 notes were:

Bug Fixes

Version 3.1 notes were:

The new feature included with this update is all about saving you even more time.

*** NEW ***
• Actionable Notifications for Apple Watch and iPhone! -> Start, Complete, Skip, Pause & Resume from either your Apple Watch or the iPhone notification center. This maybe even more useful than an Apple Watch app and is perfect if you want to quickly complete an action or see what's next without unlocking your phone.

*** IMPROVEMENTS ***
• Sped up some of the animation transitions.
• When completing or skipping an item out of order, the routine no longer scrolls to the top unchecked item.

Version 3.0.2 notes:

• Since the last update, I discovered that if you are using an iOS version earlier than 10.2.1, you were still getting the crashing upon marking an action complete. This is now fixed.

Version 3.0 Release Notes were:

I think we can all agree that Routinist wasn’t the prettiest looking app on the App Store. In version 3.0, Routinist bolsters its self-confidence and app appeal with a new look.

*** NEW ***
• Design Overhaul -> From the app icon to the settings menu, every element of the app has been redesigned and many animations have been added.
• Minimal Active Routine Info -> For those who prefer less information during your active routine, you can now retract the top section of the app so that only your go-time and projected finish time are shown.
• Play/Pause Button -> The play/pause button is now the routinist logo image. Tap to start, pause and play your routine. While the routine is playing, this logo will slowly rotate. When paused, the rotation stops.
• Active Routine Indicator -> To quickly get back to your active routine, there is now a small blue underline below applicable day button.
• Evening Reminder Notification -> Now, you can select which days you would like to receive the evening notifications or turn them off entirely (previously, they were always on).

*** IMPROVEMENTS ***
• Decluttering -> The active action is now the only action which shows a progress bar during your routine. Once the routine is over, the routine will automatically go to review mode displaying all progress bars until the routine is cleared. Clear by starting a new routine or by long pressing the pause/play button.
• Save & Add Another -> Allows you to save a new action and add another without going back to the main screen first.

Happy New Year! We've added some new features and fixed some bugs to help with your new year resolutions.

NEW FEATURE: Skip functionality - During an active routine, swipe right on an action to skip it. If needed, you can also skip the current action and then unskip the action later when you are ready to focus on that action.

NEW FEATURE: Routine Progress Status Bar - During an active routine, this bar provides a visual representation of the time skipped, completed, and remaining. Active routines additionally present the actual start time, time that has passed since starting your routine, and the estimated completion time of the current routine.

FIXED: Week View - tapping a routine time no longer crashes the app and instead correctly takes you to that day's routine.

FIXED: Cannot execute the add action button "+" when the help feature is activated.

If Routinist is helping you achieve your new year's resolutions, please help others find the app by leaving a review on the app store! Thank you and best of luck sticking with your resolutions!

In this version, we've cleaned up the user interface and experience in a few areas of the app. Most notably, the day navigation and play/pause functionality has been moved to the bottom of the screen and a menu button has been added at the top left of the main routine view (week view, tutorial, settings, etc. can now be accessed here).

I read and respond to every email; feel free to let us know if you have any thoughts on the changes or in general. Many thanks to everyone who has provided feedback via email, left a review, shared Routinist with a friend, and/or purchased Premium.

ADHD Life Saver
Can’t even express how much this app has helped me with time management— I have ADHD and it’s so easy for me to lose track of time once I get absorbed into something, which has caused me to be late for as long as I can remember. I’ve been using this app for over 2 years and it’s completely changed me; Before Routinist I would sit on my phone until the absolute last minute that I had to leave for school or work. Now, every day I get up, read, work out, do coding problems, make my bed, plan my day, and get ready before class with time to spare like clockwork—it’s honestly incredible what a few buzzes can prompt you to do and I totally recommend using Routinist even if you don’t have ADHD. I’m never late for class anymore (it’s great that you can set each day to start at a different time, since I have class at various times every day) and it even takes the work out of calculating the time of when I need to go to bed. While the interface might not seem the most intuitive to begin with, once you get used to it you can never go back.

Cautiously Optimistic
Update: I think I’ve got it figured out. After several more days of not being able to open the app without it crashing and with no update or way to ask for help in sight I decided to delete and reinstall the app. It seems to have worked but I lost my carefully created and fine tuned routine. I was also worried when I reinstalled because it was saying the only option if you want to have more than 15 actions between your morning and evening routines is to pay a couple bucks a month for Premium, but last year I paid for Premium as a one-time, in-app purchase. I was able to restore my purchase and it appears I can start adding actions back in. I’m cautiously optimistic, but I’ll be watching to see if it starts crashing again, or if it tries to charge a monthly fee. My guess about the crashing is it had something to do with the new subscription format? I wish this all would have somehow been communicated! Upping review to three stars, will fix it again as I see how things go.

Original: I actually love this app but for days now it has been crashing every time I open it. No update in sight and I could be wrong but I don’t think there is any way to reach out to the developer. I’m hoping this one star review will get their attention! Then I’ll fix my review.

Fantastic for Time Challenged People
I’m thrilled an app like this exists - I know it’s not something that most people need, but when time management is your weakness, it’s an absolute must. The interface is extremely user friendly, and it doesn’t require as much calibration as I’d expect, which is fantastic. The only reason I’ve given it four stars instead of five is because I would really like to see more done with the “Other Routines” portion of the app. It’s premium users only, and I expected it to be as good as the morning and evening routines - it’s almost there but not quite. They don’t reset (I think this is a bug, because apparently my notifications think that the routine is going, so I get notifications to do things but no way to check them off) so my “Leaving Work” routine is literally only useful the once. [edit: you have to manually reset them, long press the start button and it will clear the routine] I’d also love to see a way to remind you to use other routines - a way to set a notification for certain days. Other than that, it’s pretty close to perfect. Great job developer, and thanks for making such a brilliant app!
moesamazing,
Made life better!
I absolutely love this app! I used to have a note that told me what tasks to do in the morning and before bed and this is just a huge upgrade for me. It automatically calculates the time and starts the next activity and I can skip items. It’s just made the start of my day so much better I feel happier and more focused when I get to work in the morning because I know that everything has been going well In the day so far. It also helps me relax and sleep better at night knowing everything is done for the day. My house is more organized since I have a daily task to do the dishes and pick up. I love that it calculates what time you should start your night routine and when you need to go to bed and I love that it calculates when you should wake up in the morning in order to leave the house in time. This app has kept me from getting distracted on Facebook for example in the morning when critical test need to get done I’m just so happy this is my favorite app on my phone. Thank you so much to the developer.
rae.storms,
WORTH IT!
Love this app!! It is perfect for organizing your morning and evening habits/routine, and keeping track of what actions you are completing each week. The app is a little confusing to get the hang of at first BUT the developer (Tim) is VERY responsive and super helpful!! Routinist has really helped me create and practice a solid am/pm routine that I was really struggling with before the app. Routinist has unique alarms that go off whenever your routines should START, that way you have enough time to complete the routine and still be able to go to bed or leave for work ON TIME! Routinist will ask you what time you wish to leave in the morning by, and how many of hours of sleep you want, so then depending on how long your am/pm routines take (which YOU create/add in what actions you would like completed each night or morning), the app will then let you know when you should be in bed in order to get that full nights rest and leave on time in the morning!!
JK 5280,
Great and unique app for what it’s designed to do.
Really like the app and plan to use it regularly moving forward. However, once I upgraded to the subscription and started adding more tasks, the screen went black and I haven’t been able to restart it. Any suggestions?

I was considering deleting and downloading it again, but didn’t want to get charged again. I appreciate the simple design, but if the team is looking to update it, it would be nice to have more flexibility with timer functions, allowing you to time multiple tasks at once. Otherwise, I’m finding that tasks are not accurately logged if I leave it running too long for one task, complete a 2nd task in the mean time, then get the entire time automatically applies for the 2nd task. For sake of review, it would be nice to be able to go back and edit the actual times that the tasks were completed during. Would also be helpful to have the option of countdown timers for individuals tasks and/ or routines and the option to set a task at for specific time. Thanks
Plant Girl 42,
Great way to keep on track!
I have been using this app for a couple of years. One of my favorite things about it is that it helps me to really see how much time I realistically need for my morning and evening routines and how that impacts when I need to start getting ready for bed. It takes the guesswork out, and I can also then see how good I’ve been at guessing how much time it takes me to do each task. I tend to underestimate and then get frustrated with myself. Routinist helps to shift it to learning and I’ve gotten better at my expectations. It’s super easy to edit when life changes, and I feel a great sense of accomplishment each morning and evening when I get everything done. It also helps keep me from getting sidetracked into a project or time sinks - like checking my email or reading the news. Love this app! Only thing I would suggest is a way to track how many cycles in a row you followed the routine or a % completion.
Librilove,
Love it, and would please like a similar non-morning/night routine app
It makes my life better. It is especially relevant to my productivity as I have ADD (and without it would not remember to brush my hair until the afternoon).

What sets this app apart?
1) Easy to tweak your routine.*
2) Does not penalize you for skipping aspects of the routine or taking longer or shorter than stated.**

This plea is directed at you, app developer people. Please make an app with the above qualifications that isn’t just for the morning. Having flexible, easily-reference-able routines is essential for people with ADHD (and I assume everyone else, but I don’t think they need supports to remember what they were supposed to be doing 5 minutes ago). It would be even better if you kept all of these routines in one location.

Thank you!

*Before this app, I used a paper checklist posted on my bathroom wall. When I wanted to change the included tasks I had to erase the entire list. The problem with a list that doesn’t reflect real life is that you begin to ignore it. Being able to easily edit, the routine stays relevant.
**surprisingly rare- apps usually either rush you into the next task when you're not done, and/or give you a red X when you fail to complete a task. It makes a tense and unfriendly relationship with your uptight apps :( Then you don’t even want to see those apps in the morning.
Disheveled Mom Not For Long,
Help????
I just downloaded this app. It seems to be exactly what I’m looking for. However, I do not have a job outside of the home. I’m trying to create more structure & balance by giving myself a daily/weekly routine to follow. How do I bypass the “go time” in order to continue my routine for the entire day which includes many things at home & outside the home? Please offer feedback as I love the detail available in this app so long as I’m able to not have to use a specific “go time” as I’m not actually going to work/school, but taking care of my family & home which does not come with a “go time”. Kids have a go time that can happen at anytime so I need to be able to create a routine that is structured yet not have a concrete time unless there is an appointment to head to. Apologies for the wordiness. I do like this app & believe it can be extremely useful once I can get it set up. Thank you 😊
WannaBeFree,
I like the new custom routines
Very, very cool. It would be cool to have the time be based on the current time (which it is... but it doesn’t increment when setting it up). I can manually adjust so that is okay. It would be awesome while the setup is being created to pull right and see the time for the start of the tasks midway. Ex. Planning a party and have a certain time I’m picking someone up then continuing on. Even better is to have some sort of stop at that point where it starts over again to the next due time - if that makes sense. Also, I would love to be able to get custom completion sounds for checking stuff off. If the task is done early (just that task..and not the overall time), I want the custom completion sound...if the task is done late, the little beep is fine. Overall...very nice. However, my WiFi headache is acting up. Does this use data?
