Terrific app (more tones?)
I'm really appreciative of this app. A recent running evaluation led to the recommendation that I increase my cadence, and since I always run with my phone for music, this was exactly what I was looking for. I can hear it through my music and it works perfectly. It would be great if one could change the tone of the beat, as sometimes on long runs it can drive me a little nuts, which is the only reason I am giving 4 stars instead of 5, but otherwise--perfect.

Saves from injuries
Post-marathon, my cadence dropped significantly when I returned to running. I couldn’t figure out why, especially since I am very mindful of my step turnover when I run. I could feel injuries coming in from overstriding. This app was like a breath of fresh air: using it helped me find my cadence again and it felt like coming home. Suddenly running was easy again because I found my stride. Will keep using this to improve my turnover rate. Easy and simple to use!! One suggestion: include an option to vibrate every other step. I don’t like to use this with ear buds because I don’t want beeping in my ears for hours, but it’s also hard to hear in my running belt when running along noisy roads! Would love a vibrate option so I can feel it when I can’t hear it.
HypnosOfNyx,
Exactly what I was looking for!
I have a really hard time running on a consistent cadence without listening to music. To be precise, the same song over and over. This is fine for short runs, but listening to one song for miles isn’t fun.

This app is perfect if you have any trouble keeping a steady pace. It plays in the background of whatever you’re listening to and you can adjust the volume of the app vs main volume. The beat is extremely adjustable by 1 bpm each click and you can choose between a steady sound, and a high/low or low/high sound.

I highly recommend this app because I can now listen to podcasts and audiobooks and keep a perfect pace on my long runs!
JNTHYT,
Helps with increasing speed
I’ve been using this to increase my speed when running. My garmin watch said my average cadence was 162. With 5 runs, my cadence went up to 172, and that made me 1 minute and 45 seconds faster per mile. I’ve been increasing my cadence by 2 steps with each run. I use the high low tone, which helps me with distinguish between the tones, and to know which foot should be with each beat. I use it in the background. I also am playing the peloton app at the same time. I use the 60 minute marathon prep with Becs Gentry. She talks, with music playing. The metronome plays in the background, and is not overpowering.

Simple and perfect
Like another reviewer, I can only keep a consistent pace by listening to the same song on repeat. Once I find the song that works for my current run, I play it over and over and my cadence will be solid. I tried this app out today. Easiest set up, works in the background. I was able to sort of let my subconscious hear and respond to the tones and I didn’t even think about cadence. Worked like a charm. I agree with another review that it would be nice to have different sounds to choose from though.

Not Running in Background
Note that in the description, it says Run Tempo runs in the background so that you can still here the tempo while using other apps to listen to music, podcasts, etc. THIS IS NOT TEUE ON APPLE WATCH. I like to leave my phone behind while I train, using my watch to measure my workout. I also like to listen to podcasts or music while I do so. I can’t do that and use Run Tempo. I can listen to the metronome or to music/podcasts, but not both.

This is likely a device limitation and not the developers fault, but I feel this should be stated so more people, like me, purchase the app and discover it can’t be used as described/they intended.

So simple, so effective
A run coach recommended using a tempo app like this to help maintain pace consistency. After much online research I landed on this and didn't really use it til today, in 95 degree 90% humidity Houston TX where pace was a STRUGGLE. And what do you know. It worked. Kept me going and the real time feedback of my feet not being in time with the beat was so effective.

I love the simple interface, minimal options, though as I say this it might be nice to add an interval option for speed drills but even if they don't change anything, I'll still love it.
LarryH52,
Good app, a couple things could make it great!
I love this app, it works really well coupled with MapMyFitness. A couple small tweaks would make it awesome.
#1 - Add a three beat option, low/low/high so that the strong beat would alternate left/right foot strikes and help people remain balanced. (As suggested in ChiRunning.)
#2 - Set up a couple preset buttons to quickly change pace. I do walk-run for distance events and would like to quickly be able to shift the pace.
Ken.E.,
Perfect Little Gem
Every now and then, a perfect little app comes along that does exactly what you want - nothing more, nothing less. In this case, it’s “pace my run, please.” And oh yes, “do it in the background so I can run any other app in the foreground.”

That’s exactly what it does.

Set the cadence, a timer if you like, volume and the tick-tock sound (hi-lo is best), and you’re done. Off you go.

Zero learning curve.

The only “weakness”? Guilt... I can’t find a way to pay the developer. I mean, there aren’t even any ads to post to extinguish.

Perfect.

P.S. Oh yes, it immediately increased the distance of my 1 hr run by 15%, simply by not lagging off a 180 cadence, which I tended to do in the middle of runs. That results in longer, sustained elevated HRs and calorie burn. All good. 👍👍

Great
This is a great app. Works perfectly under the separate music program. Has been very helpful. Would love it if there was an Apple Watch app because I don’t know if any watch apps that play under music from iTunes.
