4.2.1
2023-01-16
Hello. This build has a few minor bug fixes that have been around but limited to very few folks and hence were not easily discoverable and fixable. You will notice the following improvements if you are one of those folks,

• Latest workout widget will work correctly now instead of showing a very old workout.
• Watch app should show the correct latest workout.
• Workouts imported into the Health app might show better splits info when available.

My thanks to the runners who helped troubleshoot these seemingly random and not very straightforward bugs.

In addition, there is more UI polish, new motivational quotes, and some work for yet-to-be-released features.

Happy Holidays! This release introduces newly designed Annual Highlights with more stats & visualizations to celebrate 2022 and get inspired for 2023.

• Cumulative Heart Rate Zones: Tempo aggregates heart rate zones from every workout during the year into a pie chart summarizing the entire year with heart rate zones.

• Calendar of Active Days: A clean and simple calendar highlighting every active day. It creates a unique image of the year's training history.

• Averages: We already had totals for key stats, and now we also have stats averaged per workout for the year.

All of the above also works for the previous training years. So you can also relive and compare across the years.

There's lots of good stuff going on behind the scenes in terms of changes. And I can't wait to share what I am building for 2023 features.

Wishing you a great year ahead. Enjoy & Stay Active!

No significant changes in this release. Just minor bug fixes and some bits to support the next feature release. I hope to get that one out before the end of the year.
4.1.0
2022-10-30
This update has a lot of improvements across the app. Here's a quick summary of the notable changes:

• New Apple Watch Complication for the Last 7 Days Distance Graph.
• Added ability to enable/disable workout data sources. This new in-app setting is useful to avoid duplicates when workouts are synced to the Health app from multiple third-party apps. (Ideally, we should avoid synching the same workouts into the Health app via multiple sources.)
• Cumulative Graph now shows the total distance in decimal format.
• Goal widgets now auto-display a goal when only one active goal exists.
• Tempo always backs up the data, like tags and notes, created and managed in Tempo. This backup mechanism started failing recently for some folks, and in the process of fixing it, we now have a brand new Tempo Backups section under the app settings. This new UI provides the ability to easily verify that backups are being created and also restore from a backup when needed. No action is required to create backups. Tempo will continue to create backups automatically.
• Fixed a bug that would prevent the Latest Workout widget from displaying the workout's map until Tempo was opened again after a workout.

Enjoy & Happy Training!
4.0.1
2022-09-20
This update is packed with small improvements and bug fixes.

• Added the ability to tap along the route on the workout's map to view the distance and other stats at that point on the route
• Added end date to the rectangular Goal Lock Screen widget
• Added ability to emphasize map details (i.e. brighter tones) for photo sharing
• Fixed a bug where custom workouts segments would be missing
• Fixed calculation for tag's total days in use
• Fixed handling of exactly a minute intervals to not show as 59.999 seconds
• Fixed missing navigation bar in workout details when Tempo is launched via latest workout widget

Enjoy & Happy Training!

2021-11-15
Hello. This release adds following new features along with some general maintenance.

[NEW] Quotes Widget
A lot of us find quotes from athletes and coaches super motivating. I have been curating quotes for running motivation for a while now. So I am really glad to finally able to share it with everyone. This update adds a medium-sized quotes widget that auto-refreshes a few times a day. You can also customize the colors and fonts of the quotes widget from Tempo’s in-app settings.

[NEW] Splits Browser
Splits Browser enables visually inspecting a workout’s graph and map by selecting a distance segment (a split or an interval) at a time. It is a great way to do a more thorough performance analysis of a workout.

[NEW] Dew Point in Workout Details
Workout performance is directly affected by how dry or humid it feels, and unlike relative humidity, dew point provides a better measure of it. Tempo now calculates dew point temperature for every workout that has recorded weather data.

This app has been updated by Apple to display the Apple Watch app icon.

Hello. This update fixes a crash that might be happening due to workouts recorded with a Garmin watch and then imported into the Health app using a different app.

3.5.1
2021-09-30
This release is focused on all kinds of minor improvements and bug fixes.

•  Implemented duplicate workouts filtering for the Goals progress calculations. If you noticed incorrect goal progress, this should fix it now. I still recommend looking into why you have duplicate workouts in your Health data.
• Updated graphic circular watch goal complication to auto-switch from distance to the percent of completed goal when distance > 999 (mi or km). This change significantly improves complication legibility for goals with higher target distance.
• Updated watch app to show total distance (instead of just the latest workout distance) for the most recent workout day. If you run/walk/hike more than once a day, the watch app will now show the total distance for the latest workout day (e.g. “Today”).
• Fixed an issue where some premium settings (color scheme override and custom intensity baseline) were lost when Tempo was restarted.
• Updated Restore subscription button in the watch app to do a faster sync with the iPhone app.
• Fixed the launch screen (Health permission info) sizing issues for some of the older device types.

Enjoy & Keep Running/Walking!

• Configure Personal Bests to show (or hide) distances from 100 meters to 100 miles

Jy2616,
One of the best apps I’ve ever used
As someone who is getting back into running (trained for a half marathon and over 300 miles logged in the past year), this app is MADE for runners. You are able to get so many helpful insights and stats from an individual run. And even when you want to look at cumulative stats for a given week or month, the cumulative graph and intensity calendar are awesome. You aren’t gonna find these stats in any other app, and that includes Apple’s fitness app. I also LOVE the share feature. Apple’s fitness app lets you share a completed workout, but it presents pretty barebone stats that are non customizable. Tempo lets you share your stats in the form of a customizable image (you decide what stats to show). This feature alone for me is worth it, cause it makes it so easy to share with my friends my runs without having to take a screenshot and manually crop or create something on my own. The yearly subscription is less than the cost of running socks, so if you even consider yourself a casual runner who just wants more insight GET THIS APP. Seriously you won’t regret it. As an iOS developer myself, I just wanna say kudos to the app developer. Such an unbelievably useful and well crafted app that many others could learn from. Hoping in the future that maybe we could see an iPad version but otherwise absolutely stellar ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Timy54321,
Well worth the subscription cost! I'm impressed 🤓
First, I will mention the subscription part because it seems like that is where a lot of people are leaving negative reviews. Yes, you do need to pay the subscription fee to see all of the functions, charts, goalsetting, widgets, etc. within the app but the creator gives you a seven day trial to see what it has before you have to pay for it. I’d also like to mention the fact that I tried to download a lot of Apple health data to generate a spreadsheet to analyze my runs and suffice to say I spent 2+ days trying to get a handle on all of the data, and in the end excel was not really able to process several gigabytes of data. This app connects directly to Apple health and gives you all of the run data and statistics that you could possibly imagine so fantastic work on the creators part. Thank you for making a wonderful app.
Oswald'27,
Splits are broken, devs unresponsive
I like the idea of this app. I was really enjoying using it for a while until my new entries suddenly had broken splits. There would only be 2 splits for a run. The 1st mile and then the rest of the run would be lumped together as one big split. Completely useless data at that point. The splits are correct in the data source and correct in Apple Fitness, only in Tempo are they broken. I reached out to the devs at their published support email and got no response. I had paid for a year of premium but I cancelled after realizing the data is suspect and the devs won't troubleshoot issues. I would look very carefully before spending any money and ensure that the data is correct for your workouts.

update: after tweeting at the developer I did receive a response. The developer tried hard to solve the problem but unfortunately a solution was never found. I really wish I could use this app as I quite like it, but I just can't get around this issue.
markbook_,
Simple and powerful
I’ve used many running apps. Since finding Tempo I rarely use the others. It has a very simple user interface and you can quickly find what you’re looking for. I love the Intensity Calendar for a quick overview of my runs. The Cumulative Graph is the perfect way to look at your weekly mileage and see your progression throughout your training cycle. The Personal Bests is fun to look through. I also like how the data is presented as you review each workout. The developer is doing a great job with this app and is constantly adding new features. I also love that I can use the default Apple Workouts app (though you can use any app that syncs with Apple Health) to record my runs as I find that the most accurate and simplest to use. The data syncs seamlessly with Tempo. Great app!
mitchellbrwn,
This is EXACTLY what a runner needs!
So many fitness apps aim to appeal to many different disciplines and fall short at providing really great, running focused data. Tempo not only collects data from all of your workout apps through Apple Health, but it leverages it to help you better manage all of your progress!

You can set goals, see PRs, and manage volume all from this app! Apps like Strava do similar things but don’t play well with others AND aren’t built with a running first mindset. Tempo has it all! I found it about a month ago, and I’ll be a premium subscriber for life!

One random bit: the Tags feature is extremely powerful. I’m using it to track the amount of mileage on specific shoes and to see how many miles I’ve trained for a specific event. So simple, but so great!
Skip Jefferies,
Helps me become better
I downloaded this app thinking it would track runs in real time, like some other tracker apps. It does not. However, it takes all my run workouts and puts it into easy to read data. So now I just use my Apple Watch to track my runs and then go back and review my data. I’ve been able to figure out my areas of weakness. Now I can focus on those areas during my runs and in other workouts to improve those areas. I subscribed to the pro (I rarely subscribe to apps) because I think it’s that good.

Super
I just loaded this app and I really like the statistics that it provides. One thing I wish I could add to it as other activities such as cycling. I also spent a lot of time on an elliptical machine. The heart rate data and activity data from these indoor or outdoor endeavors is captured in my Health app, so adding those activities to tempo would just require additional data crunching, similar to what is already being done for walking and hiking. And this way I would capture all of my activities during the week. I ride my bike 80 miles or so every week and I probably spent two or three hours on an elliptical in zone four or zone five, so that’s useful data to add for the intensity for the week

Best running log…
This is far and away the best running log in the AppStore. Designed to work with data collected by an Apple Watch, it also works with Garmin data exported to Apple Health.

It is one of the few apps to chart mileage and pace for every day, week, month, and year for which data is available. User defined tags make it easy to track shoes, courses, type of run, etc.

Don’t run with a phone or smart watch? No problem! Simply enter each run manually and still get the best graphs and charts in the AppStore.

Perfect Complement to Apple Watch
I recently switched from running with a Garmin to running with an Apple Watch. I really like the watch but the data views available in the Activity and Health apps are insufficient for tracking your training. I’m so happy to have found Tempo because it fills in the gaps and allows you to see mileage and intensity trends over time (weekly, monthly, yearly, and rolling totals). I do a lot of treadmill runs so I also love the option to manually adjust the distance - I think it’s worth upgrading to the paid version for this feature alone.
amrich,
Super helpful for reviewing & planning training
There is a lot of detailed functionality for making the most of my running data. I like being able to compare trends, and it is all helpful for planning my training. There’s great options for choosing what types of activities to prioritize. Also appreciate being able to see a variety of interesting data easily for each workout and compare data from different workouts
