...Unless you’re only after the nostalgia.
This is my favorite fighting game series ever and to have it here and unplayable is heart breaking to say the least.
Without a real controller this game cannot be played to full skill where you’re able to be as nimble as this game requires. your thumbs end up sloppily fumbling around while the AI has perfect timing and really lays into you.. on my best day I was able to fight 4 opponents while usually only able to fight 2 on my normal days and a lot of times only 1 and quit after a good 1 fight whooping. (Can barely ever beat Sieger) The AI can grab you at will and toss you, and has an almost impregnable block! Attacks are not encouraged and barely countering gets in..
You need waaaaay more skill here with a screen than you would ever need than if you had a controller.

Nearly impossible to enjoy
The difficulty seems to be the same for levels 1 through 8: you get Nicotine for your first opponent, then Sieger, then Cham Cham, with some variation. Regardless, the first opponent is a breeze; the second is a little harder, but the third (regardless if it’s Cham Cham, Galford, etc.) is programmed to beat you, end of story. The CPU’s throws are prioritized over yours 90% of the time; they counter you near perfectly every time you mount an offensive (see INPUT READING). Even if you counter the CPU for the majority of your match, it will mount a comeback by reacting quicker than you. This doesn’t happen all the time, but it happens so often that, coupled with what I’ve laid out above, makes the game nearly impossible to enjoy. Enough people pay for this that I’m sure SNK gives ZERO tosses about these reviews, but here’s hoping my review saves at least one person $2.99.

This Game is by far the best fighting game of all time. From the time it came out in the 90s till now. The reason why I gave it only 2 stars cause U can’t control your character. This has been a problem since the phones have been updated over the years. PLEASE fix this problem. The game is a Must have to everyone who loves old school fighting games SNK & CAPCOM have been the world’s leading fighting game company’s. SNK… time to step up ur game on Mobile Devices. Just want to be able to play ur GREATEST CREATION!!

Great game but doesn't work with bluetooth controller
It is a great game but comes with a HUGE catch. I can't control character with bluetooth controller (which is frightfully queer because other SNK's games works well with my controller). To be precise, I can only use 2 buttons for A, B and the thumb stick. The others buttons don't work and there's no option in the setting for changing buttons in game. Please fix this soon so that I can enjoy my favourite game.

Purchased this game years ago. After some update my buttons got all stuck covering the screen and wouldn’t go back to normal. It was the scarry! Recently, I saw the game got an update, so I downloaded it again. The buttons are back to normal and the game runs great! So happy to have this on my actively playing roster!

Great game, terrible port
Impossible to play after the second opponent, the CPU basically counters or blocks anything you do, as if it wasn’t hard enough already with the wonky controls. Difficulty levels are the same no matter what level you choose, it makes no difference. This could have been great port but the developers have made no changes to this since it was first introduced to the App Store several years ago. It’s a shame, I was hoping to relive my childhood fascination with this game.

You have multiple king of Fighters, multiple Metal Slugs… Give us more Samurai Shodowns! Or better yet, anthology!!! I’d buy it... & anybody that bought this would buy more SS’s!! Think about it! You guys are missing out on a pile of cash and we’re missing out on some beautiful fighting games.. SNK FOREVER Samurai Shodown forever!!

Lacks controller support - Jan 2021
This game is perfect, except you can’t play it. As of January 2021, SNK still needs to update support for Bluetooth controllers. Without it, the game is not fun to play. It’s safe to say that if they fix this one issue, the game will be the best fighter on any mobile platform but until then it isn’t worth downloading.
Until they fix the controller issue, I recommend Garou MOTW - A perfect port of an arcade classic, which this, disappointingly, is not.

Sadly too buggy
This is a great game, but this particular release has a lot of odd bugs. MFI controller support is busted and it won't recognize all the buttons on your game pad...and some of them instantly crash the game for me.
Touch screen controls work but I find this very hard to play like that. For now, your best bet is to get this elsewhere like the collection on PSP and hopefully this will get updated later on.

Excellent fighting game for iOS, and a classic
Touch screen controls are great and accomplish the goal, but the mfi controller support for the steel series xl is bad. No kicks at all. I've played with options to see if their was something I was missing, but can't fix it, so bad software on the controller support. Please incorporate the c and d buttons for controllers! I love this game!
