Description

JST School of Weaving is a series of instructional lessons where weavers learn at their own pace to weave on 4 shaft looms or continue on their weaving journey with renowned and sought-after instructor and designer Jane Stafford.

Each lesson demonstrates step by step instructions and will inspire weavers to design and create the best possible cloth they can – to care about graphic, colour, hand, and drape – from beginners wondering where to start, to experienced production weavers searching for new horizons.

Teresa Coons,
Jane is the best fiber arts teacher I have ever had!
Jane’s method of teaching is the best I’ve ever had the pleasure to experience — online or in person. I love the way she always takes the time to carefully and thoroughly explain the theory behind every weaving technique and structure that she teaches. Her explanations are detailed and logical in their order of presentation — and her demonstrations at the loom are presented very clearly. An added bonus is her sense of humor and obvious love of the weaving process and the fabric she produces. I also believe that the Jane Stafford School of Weaving is the best value available today. To be able to get so many hours of high quality instruction, detailed lesson printouts and patterns, and on-line chat and assistance for such a reasonable charge is truly remarkable! I have completed the first five seasons, am currently enjoying season six, and hope to continue as long as Jane is teaching! (I frequently review past lessons — another plus for membership.) I also enjoy the access to beautiful yarns and kits. I recommend the JST School of Weaving to all of my fellow weavers, both new and experienced.
clansinger,
Wow- 5 years
The School of Weaving really changed my experience with weaving. I started weaving in 2005, and did’t get enough traction to really understand what I was doing, gave up for a few years, had to start over multiple times and never really understood the weave structures and how to use the loom. I have a Delta loom that was generously given to me and was way over my capabilities to warp and tie up.

I signed up for the classes in February and just loved it. Binge watched all 5 seasons and now am using both of my floor looms (baby wolf and delta) at the same time just to keep up. I love going back to classes for the fabric I want to create as a refresher. After all you can’t do it all in a month.

I have been doing the kits, to ensure success and have loved the resulting fabrics. So worth doing to get more confidence. I tend to like to make fabrics (even though they are samples), that are also useful too. I wove the color and weave gamp (Season 3) a little wider to make a dress (Merchant Mills - Factory dress).

The classes have really made a difference in this 2nd year of Covid, giving me a wonderful outlet for creating my own designs. I am very inspired by it all,-Jane, the team and the online store.
OhDeb,
I absolutely LOVE this!
Every night my husband and I watch at least one episode of weaving school. Yes, you heard that right. Even my husband who is not a weaver (yet) enjoys Jane’s wit and humor as well as her stellar teaching style. I am currently a rigid heddle weaver and am waiting not so patiently for my David III to arrive, so I’m absorbing as much knowledge as I can before diving in. I love that I can watch and rewatch at my own pace and not have to leave my house, though we do look forward to the day when we can visit Jane on Salt Spring Island! If you want to learn to weave on a floor loom, THIS is the best place to be!
danielvanalstine,
If you are thinking about it DO IT!
If I could give more than 5 stars I would. From the quality and comprehensiveness of the instruction to the great filming. The only think I would like better is if I could tell transport myself to Canada and be there in person. I love that you can stop and revisit challenging tasks over and over again and search for issues by key word. I also love that the program is project based wherein you learn so much without having to belabor and overthink while just having fun. Top notch instruction!
Janesheetz,
Always Learning More
I’ve been weaving for 6 years now. I originally learned on my own through videos from Jane Stafford and books I bought. The School of Weaving season 1 has been a great refresher course. It has helped me fine-tune my methods of warping and weaving. I’ve just started in the School and am really looking forward to taking the deep-dives into weave structures and how to design my own projects! I highly recommend School of Weaving to anyone who wants to either begin weaving or to continue building their weaving skills.
Ccruciger,
Excellent videos
I don’t live in a place where people own looms and weave. When I started on my quest to learn I tried a lot of social media sources and a lot of books and one lucky day someone post a link to this series. It’s perfect. Thank you for taking the time to create these videos and putting them in an easily accessible format. I highly recommend these to anyone who want to learn weaving.
Does not work on Music Files,
Learning so much
I am a new weaver. I was gifted a loom and there is no weaving shop close to where I live. I found out about Jane’s online classes and jumped in. I would never have been able to learn so much in such a short time. I have books in weaving but so much easier seeing it done on video than pictures in a book. Thanks so much Jane. I am just starting the color and weave project.
Deb -ASC,
Never to experienced to learn!
I’ve been weaving since 1980. I thought I knew how to do it all except for some structures I hadn’t tried yet. What could I learn?
As it turns out, everything! I don’t do anything the way I was taught “back then”. My weaving, thanks to Jane, is ten-fold more efficient, less problematic, more adventurous and, just all around better. I even stopped hating the warping process.
Thank you Jane!
.Weaver.,
Amazing app and very user friendly
The School of Weaving app is absolutely wonderful! My sister and I live miles apart but always wish we could weave together. Now we can! We are going to pick a new learning project from the JST site every month (or two) and get out of the rut of doing the same old comfortable thing. It beats the dickens out of watching television! Thank you for making weaving exciting!
francie10000,
Love this school
I have learned so much from Jane (and the collective members of her team). The courses have sustained me through the Covid lockdowns like nothing else. As a full time worker and house holder, I don’t keep up with all the new structures every 5 weeks. But I know that when I am ready I can go back and try them. I am just now revisiting turned twill. Now so much is clicking. Thanks so much.
