GPS BATTERY IMPACT
Sessions app is made for Apple Watch Series 2, 3 and 4. Sessions uses your Apple Watch GPS and other sensors to track your surf/wind/kite sessions. Note that GPS and sensor use will impact your watch battery when in use. We value your ability to use your Watch after your session, so the Sessions app keeps an eye on your battery state, and if your battery gets below 10%, the app will stop your session and save your data.

Bob-a-job-a-jobbie,
Brilliant concept that doesn’t work
I use it for surfing and the main issues are that it does not accurately record each wave and it often confuses an attempt to catch a wave with a wave caught. Frequently it does not capture anything at all and what it does capture rarely transfers to the phone.

This app feels like it is trying to do too much for too many sports. Some concerted effort on making sure that the basics work, like recording the data in the first place, and reliably transferring this to the phone, would go a long way to turning this app around. I keep it on my watch in the hope that the next update will address these; but as of August 2018 it hasn’t been updated for eight months. Hoping the developer comes back this at some point as it’s such a brilliant and useful idea. If it worked properly it would be an app worth paying for.
Gaser123456,
Wish it would work and wish they would update
I have been using this app for about 2.5 years on my Apple Watch 3 w/ cellular for tracking Kitesurf sessions. I love it when it works but the app has many bugs and glitches that are incredibly frustrating. I have successfully tracked over 200 sessions on the watch however I have had the app fail probably another 50 times or more. What seems to happen is a few things - either the session gets recorded and when you end the session and the watch “processes latest session” the data gets lost or when I start a session it somehow ends during my time on the water. I always make sure to water lock the screen so it doesn’t accidentally end from the water. Even then - I get back to the beach and the watch is still water locked and just showing my regular watch face. All the data is lost. It’s terribly frustrating. I wish they would fix the bugs bc it would be a really amazing app if so.
ChugItNugget,
I want it to work, I swear!
Some information seems to work (speed, time, distance) sometimes it doesn’t (3 hour session I paddled 265,000m? I doubt it) and never once has it transferred to my phone. Even after the latest update that “fixed” that issue it still has yet to sync (and those sessions are lost, no tracking other than a short overview in activity). Upside it does time track waves so easy to check Surfline camera at that time then getting a rough guess. Doesn’t really track waves under 3’ though. I want to like this more, like a lot more. Group of coworkers have the app and want to get more metrics, specifically area surfed but at this point, open water swim may just be the answer. Would revise review if the app was fixed.
Larry SFlorida kiter,
Kiteboarding or kitesurfing
I like the app. It allows me to track sessions ona map and get a sense of top speed (average speed doesn’t seem to be accurate). It pairs with the phone after a session (need to be near phone when you stop the app). It sometimes takes awhile to sync and show up - not sure of lag, but a lot of data?

Highly recommend to get a sense of speed, distance traveled and then pairs with Apple Watch to see heart rate and calories burned during a session- it logs it as a workout. That works well.

I know it can be improved, but it’s a great start. It also lets you track others on a leaderboard and jumps too. That seems pretty incredible too - time of jump, Gs location etc. thanks to the developer
Etch44,
Looses too much data
If I know the day and where to look, I can see the watch sent data back to my phone in the Health app, but it’s just the time spent, nothing else. The app on the phone where I assume I should see the map with my route doesn’t load anything. Eventually it pops up a vague error and there is no support I can find to ask questions. I was trying to use this to track kiteboarding.
Daddysdodgers,
Stoked! Works great after the latest update.
I really wanted the app to work for me, but it wasn’t. I contacted them through Facebook, and told them of the issues I was having. They responded super fast, and told me about the update, and what their plans were with the new features. Now I’m all updated, and the app works super smooth. Great job on all levels! Can’t wait to see future updates.
loeschjustin,
A lot of potential
I bought an Apple Watch 3 and was disappointed to find Apple’s native activity app lacked any way to track relative kiteboarding data (jump count, jump height, speed, etc.). The Sessions app is designed to provide a lot of good data from your kiting session that a kiter would look for while using the Apple Watch. I’ve used it for two days and have had inconsistent experiences but it’s a free app so I really can’t complain.
Thekniveton,
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t
I really want this app to work. I really do. But it is simply too inconsistent and unreliable. The measurements are often inaccurate and the sessions often doesn’t transfer to my phone. I have compared kiteboarding jump measurements to my woo and they are way off. The surfing tracker sometimes misses waves and others it records are often unrealistic. I hope that the app is improved because it’s a great idea and has potential.
hdudhbxujnrjdnnsijnajsofnnfpod,
Good for a free app
Used it a few times for kiting.
Dont know another app which tracks height and visualizes the sessions on a map.
Doesnt track all jumps, but good enough.
Loading each session can take a long time.
Uploading from watch to phone also seems long.
Sometimes restarting (forced close) helped.
Would like to be able to upload session into strava.
Will there be an update for watch 6? Will height tracking be improved with altimeter on the waych 6 ?
Also, cant add a “sessions” app on any of the watch faces. It doesn’t show up in the list of selectable apps.
But again. Its a free app.
Jcon11,
Doesn’t work at al
I tried it out today on the Apple Watch Series 3 for the first time. Spent 90 minutes in the water. Caught around 8 solid waves. The app said zero waves caught, zero waves attempted and zero calories burned. The session did sync with my phone but the date and time were off. This isn’t a very necessary app to begin with, who really needs to know how many waves they caught, but the fact that it’s essentially vapor ware is frustrating. I hope the developers go back and rework and get it right.
