Amccordford,
Teaches you as you go
TL;DR: Best Sudoku app, the only one you’ll every need/want because reasons (below). I have a couple silly suggestions (again, below).

I have had this Sudoku app for years. I love it! I have tried several other sudoku apps over the years and I haven’t found any that offer all the functionality this one has to offer. I don’t understand why anyone would ever want anything else.

This app makes it very easy for you to switch between making notes and filling in answers; it can highlight and erase numbers and notes, or not; it automatically gives you a difficulty progression to follow everyday, if you choose; you can work square by square (usually the only choice offered in other apps) or number by number (my preferred method); and if you need to use a hint, it will walk you thru a tutorial on how to find an answer to fill in, teaching you how to become a better sudoku master along the way!

My only suggestions would be to maybe add fluff, like levels or experience points to track how much work people have done, maybe personal high scores for difficulty levels and not just daily global high scores, and other choices along those lines that will make it seem more like some of those other apps that lure people away from this app, the best sudoku in the App Store (that I a m aware of).
RA_Gal,
Best sudoku app out there
The options alone make this app the best. You can go from easiest to hardest in all the different settings offered. Are you new to sudoku, this is the best app to start, not only can you adjust the settings to your perfect setup, the game also teaches you how to play with telling you how and why a certain grouping works or doesn’t.

I have had this app for years and it only gets better. I’ve lost a lot of older apps to the developers not putting time into upgrading it or even keeping it up to date with updates. The developers of this app make sure that doesn’t happen. They are amazing and every upgrade to the app I’ve seen I’ve absolutely loved. Thanks for such a great app.
Rylyshar,
This has all the options, and more!
This is the absolute best Sudoku app - and I've tried a bunch of them trying to get one I like! It has options for EVERYTHING, including all the different ways to do pencil marks! You can set "pick a number, then a cell," or vice versa! Best of all, the hints can do everything from a simple "is board solvable (do I have anything wrong)" to "undo until solvable" (!) to "hint" - which will then lead you through AND TRAIN YOU on advanced solving techniques! Absolutely amazing app! The free version gives you one of each game each day, which is a good hour+ of play time, but it'll be worth paying for the full version just because this is SO GOOD!
dianebz,
I love this game so far
I am just a beginner and just starting to use this app, but tried several others before I found this one. I don’t want to compete I just want a simple mind game. So far the game allows me to take as long as I want and doesn't rag at me with advertisements. The timer doesn’t seem to be optional, but I don’t mind that as I long as I have the option not to play with others. The variety of game levels seems wide. The other thing I like is that I can choose a harder game one day and a relaxing easy one the next day. The other apps I tried were in my face competitive. So I am very happy with this app.

I have used this puzzle for years and I can’t part ways. I’m 83 and this puzzle keeps me entertained. Last week a had to change my old phone for an 14. My puzzle is not working on it. I have deleted and downloaded again and again and I can’t make it work. When inputting the last number needed it disappears. If I look back at the menu it doesn’t show any marks that such puzzle has been completed. Please what can I do.

Best app to learn sudoku strategies without intrusive ads
There are small banner ads, but they have been very unobtrusive so far. This is a simple setup, not flashy, but with lots of options to set it up the way you want it. I love all of the tutorials that help you learn the different methods and strategies for solving. This would be a great one for kids, but also challenging for adults. I’ve tried several sudoku apps, and this one is definitely my favorite.
Janet Merkley,
Great fun and helpful strategy hints
I like this sudoku because it teaches the rules for deduction, if you choose to learn them. Little by little, rules that used to be so confusing to me, become easier to spot. I like the theory as well as the practical examples to back it up. Now, I enjoy using hints to get me thinking about a clue staring me in the face. If I fail to find it, the next clue by tapping “more” will help me. I like how the hints in this app lead me along and do not just show me the answer.

Broken After Update
This app was my go-to time waster, until I updated my phone to iOS 16. After that it wouldn’t let me access settings or finish a game without crashing. I’ll just delete it and reload it, I thought. Mistake. At least before I could play a game and get to the main menu. Now when I open the app the same game loads and settings can’t be accessed at all. From what I read in the reviews the developer has washed his hands of the app and isn’t responding to messages, who knows what’s going on in his life at this time? So I guess it’s time to look for a different sudoku app, this one was great while it worked, def 5 stars before.

This app is so user friendly and very customizable! It seems to be endless the amount of "brain training" that I get ( being 60, it is important to keep that brain busy). If I have to find something negative to say, it would be you have to be careful that when you open it in public, the volume always goes to totally load! But, all you hear is key "clicking" and easily fixable with a quick volume down! Love this app!
OriginalSim,
Best Sudoku by far!!
I’ve played sudoku on this app for years. Every once in a while I’ll check something else out but always come back to this one because of the number of daily games, because of the tutorial tips that actual TEACH STRATEGY, and because of the myriad of UI options.

Was very disappointed when it stopped working with iOS 14.3, but it’s working now with iOS 14.4!! Yay!!

I’m not sure if Apple changed the thing or the developer (Jason Linhart) did, but I highly recommend the developer at least publish a short update to let us know you’re still out there and to let users (and potential users) know that they best sudoku app out there is once again functional. :)

Thanks for years of solid puzzle entertainment.
