Description

Can a wanna-be hero like you rescue the city of Kendrickstone, held hostage by an evil wizard and his troop of black-clad soldiers? Face down fierce foes with spell, sword, or silver tongue. Outwit cunning rivals, cement your fledgling reputation, and maybe, just maybe, make enough money to pay your rent!

“The Hero of Kendrickstone” is an epic 240,000-word interactive fantasy novel by Paul Wang, where your choices control the story. It's entirely text-based—without graphics or sound effects—and fueled by the vast, unstoppable power of your imagination.

Step into the shoes of a fledgling adventurer in a world full of magic and mystery! Master physical combat, magic, stealth, or diplomacy. Choose to befriend–or betray–sorcerers and knights, bandits and baronesses.

Will you spend the last of your silver on a bed for the night, or potions for your next adventure? Will you spend your evenings studying ancient secrets, or prize-fighting for extra coin? Will you seek a mentor to help hone your skills, or strike out on your own? Will you prove to be a paragon of compassion, or a callous mercenary? Will you die forgotten and un-mourned, or will you become the Hero of Kendrickstone?

Bundy b,
Next Part!?!?
This isn’t really a review I just need to know when the next part is coming out
Add Me :) XBD-HNN-XHB,
Good, but...
Okay so it’s a good game, Choice of LLC always makes good games, but it seems rather short for the price. Don’t get me wrong it’s good, but if you’re looking for a medieval text adventure game, I’d recommend Choice of the Wizard or The Last Monster Master. And okay it’s more of a super villain theme, but I highly recommend Diabolical!
Unidraconus,
SKYRIM-ish
Ok not really like Skyrim obviously but the world, the story is set in, has that feel to it. Unlike every other choice game this one actually HAS a more well thought out, detailed endings. Readers of my reviews know that I read all choice games and that short crappy endings are a peeve of mine.
Play as a Mage, thief, knight, bard or some combination of that.
Join up with others in the story or be a line wolf player.
Some choice add layers on to the story but don't make any difference to the main story line. Sadly the story's main out line is the same no matter what role you choose.
It would have been better to have even more separate stories for greater replay value.
But that would have meant more work.
That being said its a challenging game. Almost too challenging. I played 6 times trying to achieve a certain goal as a Mage. Only to find out that unless I was willing to fight like a knight I was always going to fail.
So that kind of game mechanic doesn't make me happy.

Still absolutely 5 stars.

If you make it to the end their seems to be an intent to continue the adventure in a new story app.
I'm looking forward to it as this now makes my top 5 choice games of all time!
Jmac006,
Another epic
Paul wang is my favorite choice games author. I must have played through Sabres of infinity like 6 times, I also bought mecha ace and am looking forward to reading this. I saw
It's 240,000 words
And it looks very similar to lucid' recent book hero of Daria which I also recomend. Keep writing Paul I can't wait to read guns of infinity.
Dude,the45678,
Okay-ish
Was in the mood for a generic medieval fantasy setting so I picked this one up. It's okay compared to other choice games but didn't capture me. The writing was fine but the game elements felt very tacked on as if it didn't matter what my actual stats were in most cases.

That said the ending is amateur hour and unforgivable. After playing for several hours the final boss fight amounts to "a pick the right choice because I'm the author and this is what I say needs to happen," event. I didn't pick the right choice and was given a prompt "you died" screen. No epilogue, no interesting details about what my characters death and failure meant for the rest of the generic fantasy world, nothing. There are many better choice games out there and this one is not worth your time unless you've played all those other ones.
Jake 5853,
Good game, not worth $5
This game is alright, I couldn't find many problems if any Edith this game except just the way it was written. Also this game's quality is no better than many other games that I've played for $2.99. I just didn't get into this game as much as I have others and for $5 I would expect a greater experience with a longer story and more repeatability. The only thing different from choosing who you side with the the pay and the leisurely past-times. The quests are all exactly the same and in the same order, using the exact same wording no matter if you are a thief wizard or servant-at-arms. Now I should have expected this but for $5 I was hoping for more.

Disappointed
I suppose it depends on the reason you are playing, but for me I was pretty underwhelmed and couldn't finish it. There's barely any character relationships (whether romantic or platonic), and very little time invested in fleshing out side characters. Also, as an adventure game, I was expecting maybe a group of friends you collect along the way (warrior, rogue, mage, etc), but I got pretty far in to it and was still alone for all of it. Because I didn't finish it, it's possible this changes later on, but I felt I played far past long enough to get the flow of how the game was going. I did like the world-building and the gender diversity of passing characters, though.
Sarah_Mac,
Eh
So, for me, the length and the level of some intricate details was impressive. However, I found the writing to be pretty adolescent in nature (the vernacular and such didn't really fit the setting and it felt like the dialogue was created by a teenager sometimes). I didn't really enjoy any of the side characters and, frankly, grew bored when they appeared. I didn't like how there aren't 'relationships' to develop (friendship and otherwise) which kind of took away from the interactive fiction feel I'm used to experiencing. While 'The Lost Heir' isn't perfect, I much preferred the detailing, character development, and setting of that to this game here. The Hero of Kendrickstone just didn't do it for me :/
Draetheel,
Good but short
Game was pretty good but the end came way to fast. You do three "quests" and then you reach the final quest. When I got to the final quest I honestly thought it was only gonna be the first BIG quest of several not the only one. There isn't even much replayability because no matter what my choices the story goes practically the same way with the only defining difference is you'll lose if you pick the wrong choice(s).

Overall this just isn't worth the price given the content (or lack thereof) this provides.
Chupacabra the goat,
Meh
I'm into medieval stuff, seriously. I had high hopes for this game but it came up well short. Your choices don't matter except to build abilities. So the story will be the same every time with the same conversations and the same people asking the same things of you. It's also fairly short overall... Think choice of broadsides length with more filler.

I'd recommend selecting a different game as this ones world just isn't very flushed out aside from generic tropes.
