newb910,
Love the dash cam but app needs work...
I bought the Thinkware q800 pro and I like the quality and design. It does not have a display on the camera itself (which I prefer) so most of the camera settings and viewing must be done through this app. This is where things start to get glitchy and aggravating.

Thinkware cameras are not cheap and I feel the company should back those prices up with premium build quality, well designed software, and customer support. First, this app looks like it was slapped together and nothing was well thought out. The WiFi connection to the camera is hit and miss. The video player is terrible due to freezing and skipping when trying to play the video without downloading it first. If you download it, it will play much better but it is also slow. You are also supposed to be able to connect the camera to your phone’s hotspot and upload videos to the cloud. I attempted this several times and could not get this to work even after enabling network communication.

The app does get the job done (eventually) and since I do not need to use it often I will learn to live with it. However, Thinkware needs to invest in some good application development. I do like the camera and will be keeping it but if software doesn’t improve over time I will look elsewhere next time I’m looking to buy one.
You got me THIS time...,
Cloud?
This camera system is too expensive not to have an actual “cloud” functionality when the camera is in “parking mode”. I brought the camera on the premise that you would be able to view “in the comfort of your living room” as you falsely advertised...even went as far as buying an external battery only to find out this is not the case...your competitor Blackvue does offer this functionality and I’m honestly feeling like I ripped off. The camera quality is great, rear camera as well(which I have installed in the interior) work amazing at night. The fact that you cannot view what’s going on with the camera “on demand” is VERY disappointing...so now I am stuck with a $700 camera system that I can only see AFTER something occurs...really thinking I should have brought the Blackvue but it is too late for that...and what is the new “function” that has been added in the new update because I do not see it
gsgraham,
Works, Mostly
Once you get everything to connect, most of the program works. It took multiple tries to make the first connection with the camera, but seems to be working now. Attempting the change the password on the camera’s WiFi locked me out, forcing me to reset the camera (deleting everything). There are also some camera settings that cannot be adjusted from the app (like audio recording) that you have to do on the camera itself. And, if you click off the app on your phone for more than a couple seconds, you lose the connection for some reason. There are no preview images for the recordings, but it does mark the time they were taken and if it was a front or rear camera.

I tried making a Thinkware account through the app to see how it worked and if it added functionality, but it turns out there are password restrictions (very limited special characters) that it 1) doesn’t inform you of and 2) doesn’t reject your new password if it contains those characters - instead it just blocks you from being able to log in. Try choosing reset password? Nope. Doesn’t work.

In the end, it works to change some settings and get the videos off the camera wirelessly. However, there are bugs and limitations.

THINKWARE Cloud
I Will update review once CLOUD is enable. Camera should be able to stay connected to a network at all times. Including parking mode. As of now all features are disable once parking mode activates. Useless if something happens to the car in parking mode since there is not a way for the camera to send a notification due to not network connection. Camera will disconnect from app every time it goes into parking mode. What’s the point on the cloud if this happens? Please update and make so that it is always connected to Internet via hotspot even in parking mode. Last request is for the app to be able to connect to the camera via proxy or cloud when the camera is connected via hotspot or home WiFi/router/car internet. If the camera is connected on my portable internet. I am unable to connect to the camera with my phone due to the camera being connected to that internet connection. Therefore I can’t use cloud features even when the camera is on and connected to the internet from my car. Besides that, the app works great and connects perfectly to my iPhone X. 4 stars until cloud features are enable.
myfirstyelp,
Just steal it U1000
Incredible work with the camera quality and audio; however, it’s frustrating - more importantly, dishonest - that I can’t live view whenever I please. The WiFi has an embarrassing range and I shouldn’t have to run a hotspot. Just make it work proper. When I drop a pretty penny I expect the product to deliver...

Please explain to me the benefit of having a parking mode feature that’s impossible to view unless you’re literally sitting in the car waving your phone around waiting for it to maybe connect. What good does it do if your car is stolen? Or when someone breaks in to steal the expensive cameras that you purchased for that exact reason and you have no footage to show for it because you weren’t within 6 inches of the device?
Auniquenick,
Mostly love camera and software, but some bugs remain.
Had Thinkware F800 with rear camera and hard-wired kit installed this week. Connection between app and camera has been the biggest issues. This seems to be improved with latest firmware and app version so long as when connecting to my iPhone hotspot I toggle the hotspot off and on each time I get in the car. I wish the camera could auto-connect to my phone hotspot each time I get in the car.

More inconvenient is that the app disconnects from the camera after several minutes and fails to download files from the camera SD onto my phone (starts download, then app and camera disconnect during download) and download error pops up).

When streaming video files off the camera to my phone, there is an initial second of distortion, but then the video plays well.

The live camera works well. A small button in the top right of the screen allows toggling between front and rear cameras. The ability to split-screen both camera views would be a great addition.

Safety features are easily adjustable by app, and settings seem to save properly with this version.
rfrfgghjh,
Does not work
I would avoid Thinkware all together. You cannot view the videos on the go so why bother? The app simply does not work. I have spent two weeks sending emails to Thinkware with them not even trying to help. They sent did you turn on WiFi? I fully explained what I have done then they respond with there is a WiFi button. You have to press that and connect a phone wireless. Ah, yes. They think we are morons that cannot follow simple steps. I will purchase another brand and replace all of my Thinkware dashcams. The app loads, I can connect to the dash cam, but I cannot do anything else with it. I used to be able to with the other app, but that app just told me my camera no longer works with that app. I have three of these cameras, so never going to buy anything else from this company. I really hope they get their crap together.
dashcamless57,
No Satisfaction!
Live view in Parking Mode via Thinkware Cloud was the major reason I bought the U1000 and iVolt battery pack.

And since Chevrolet sells the F800 I thought it a safe bet.

I fully understood that this would require Internet connectivity separate from the vehicle’s hotspot. But as of yet, I have been unable to get it to connect to ANYTHING but my iPhone hotspot. It will not even connect to the hotspot in the Chevrolet. Yes, I am setting it up correctly.

Additionally, the iVolt battery pack was CLEARY previously installed and returned to the box with a SECOND “seal” decal. One of the Add a Fuse Taps had been poorly connected to the charging cable, and the Velcro strips were installed clumsily on the battery with the adhesive exposed on the other strips and thus stuck to the Quick Start Guide and Warranty booklet. At first I wasn’t too upset about this as it was the last one Thinkware had in stock and was too easy to workaround.

The app is clumsy to use, the video quality is great WHEN it isn’t all white and pixelated, you MUST download the User Manual and read EVERY word to get the thing connected to the cloud. The only reason that I “believe” it is due to the GPS locator facility. Have yet to download a single thing from the cloud.

Paid $800 for “The best.” Didn’t get it.
gdt42,
Great Video. Useless App.
The video quality from the U100 is great. The app has been nothing but useless since day 1. Tech support just reads from a script and obviously has no real experience with the app. Took HOURS to finally be able to find phone hotspot to register the camera to the cloud service. Same with installed and always on hotspot device. Constantly drops connection to Wi-Fi as well as to either hotspots. For the short time that it is connected, it fails to send notifications or auto-upload incidents as advertised. After researching the issue on other forums, it appears that Thinkware is aware of the issue with some users but is choosing to ignore it. I am on the latest IOS (16.5) and have the most recent update to the app which supposedly corrected the dropped connectivity issue but hasn’t.
Gugughoiucrsxhucyuf,
Works as expected
This app works as expected. It’s annoying how it does not connect your phone to the dash cam automatically. You have to go into your settings and connect to the dash and WiFi when you want to see the live feed. However the performance is good. The dash cam camera is a bit slow but that is better I guess. To capture any kind of collision in slow motion. If you guys can figure out an update to automatically connect the dash cam your smart phone it would be greatly appreciated. The dash cam I bought is a F800 and it works very well with this app. It has it quirks and bugs but it takes a while to warm up to it.
