MrMystery,
Overall a great game, needs just a few more tweaks
I've loved this game for well over 20+ years. Really excited to have this digital version for the iPad. The only thing that needs a little tweaking is the battle algorithm and the movement algorithm. The results for both of those can be a little skewed at times and not representative of actual results rolled on actual dice, which changes the strategy and tactics of this version of the game versus the table top version. Other than that, this game is very, very addictive!! Kudos to the developer for all the work in making this game feel and play like the original. The most recent enhancements have added a great deal of convenience (note taking for stack compositions for example). Keep up the great work....and fix those algorithms!! :)
Bill Boeing,
Didn’t capture the game
Been playing Titan board game since early 1980’s. Digital version has deep failings. The die rolling algorithm is used poorly in 2 ways, 1) It systematically discriminates against the live player (failed to roll an even number in 17 tries), and when playing against the AI, it consistently provides the AI the right roll to breed and to attack, but doesn’t provide the live player the same “fortune”. 2) When on battle-boards, there are far too many outcomes in which a 6-2, or 8-2 character rolls 4 or 5 sixes, and where 6-4 characters roll 5 or 6 ones. Also of note, the AI’s Titans are far too aggressive on the battle-boards. They move out into harm’s way too soon and the opponent can simply kill the Titan and win the battle, or game. Unfortunately, in a 3-person AI game, the AI’s will often go Titan on Titan early, providing the surviving AI a huge advantage. The AI’s make no attempt to keep creatures with breeding potential alive on the battle-boards to have a chance to breed a more powerful creature at turn 4. They are usually wasted in the first 2 turns, making the outcome predictable.
Sir Humptinframble,
Great Port of an Old Favorite
Indeed this is a fantastic port of an old favorite. Really catches the complex and nuanced rules of the board game, and by taking care of the bookkeeping games take a small fraction of the time the physical game would take. Graphics really capture the physical game, they look sharp and polished. Even the music and sound effects fit.
The AI tactics, even on max setting, do leave some to be desired. Very reckless with their Titans, so they elim over silly battles/moves that most human players would avoid. I haven't experienced any funny business with the dice, but just like IRL the dice/RNG can be frustrating. I'd still play/buy again, and I'd recommend to any fans of the game. 5 out of 5 for a $5 board game port.
Balisinger,
Titan is quite simply the best board game of all time
This does an excellent job of mimicking the board game. When playing AI opponents, two will be hopelessly bad and one will play a decent game, though not an expert game. I assume this is meant to mimic the different playing strengths you find in real life.

I see complaints about the dice rolls. I get the same kind of rolls in real life, and part of the game is taking into account the fact that die rolls CAN seem wonky. Normal variation can give strange results.

You can choose the AI opponents if you want a quick game. Word of warning — if you get into a live non-timed game, your opponents might make only 1 or 2 moves a day. If you want a regular game where you start and finish it in one sitting, insist on a timed game.
SkipWeber,
Best game out there
Used to play this game with the old Avalon Hill box game. Those games would take 6-7 hours. This app takes less than an hour although the AI isn't that smart. Very fun strategic options on two different levels - board play and battle
Old Oracle,
Pretty but unplayable
After playing the board games for many years and being a very competitive player in the 90s, I had high hopes for this game. The following is written from playing solely in solo mode.

It is beautifully render and the UI is very good, unfortunately this is all I can say positively about it.

Two main problems - random numbers are way out of line. Either setup or deliberate, the sequences hit very rare results far to often. Far too many 1% to 0.001% statistical chances come up in battle, usually against the human players. Movement rolls are as vey suspect - way too many opening 5 or 2 mulligans following initial 2s or 5s.

Tactics are horrible. There is only so much the AIs can do in this type of app, however way to many sitting and letting the other side just shoot them with range strikers (especially warlocks) or striking at much less valuable targets that are just as or more harder to kill. Also tactics appear to have a few subtle differences between how the AI defends vs another AI or human player - example then AI regularly hangs its Titan on and edge front line position, but almost never does vs a human.

tl/dr; Can be fun…a little but I recommend you do not waste your time or funds on it if you seek a challenging (but not frustrating) or competitive experience.
Csinal,
I would have given this app 5 stars, BUT…
The dice rolling algorithm really is that bad! Most of the time, damage for the round (not individual rolls, but all the attacks for one side) is either extremely high or extremely low. Average damage for the round is the exception rather than the norm. I could give numerous examples. They are not hard to come by. They occur in every game, almost every battle.

It’s really a shame that the dice rolling is SO off, because the rest of the is outstanding. Well, not quite. The AI is very weak. But I can overlook that because of the online games with other players.

If you can deal with the mind blowing results of a horrible dice rolling algorithm, give it a try. But don’t be surprised when the dice don’t act anything like you would expect.
pdthiem,
Great graphics but cheating AI and lousy developer support.
I really have tried to like this game, but the developer did a crap job on everything but the graphics.

Rather than build a decent AI, the developer simply has his cheat. It doesn’t roll for movement randomly, but rather assigns itself the number that gives it the best muster every turn, and gives you the worst possible muster.

And the die rolling algorithm is completely rigged. Try attacking a Titan with anything but a skill 4 creature, and you’ll wiff every time. All your combat rolls are low, while for the AI they’re always high.

Multiple emails to the developer have only resulted in him saying there’s nothing wrong with the game, which is blatantly false. I used to teach statistics at the university level and have analyzed the die rolling algorithms in the game and they are neither random nor fair.

If you like nice graphics, it’s a great game. But unless you want to play against a blatantly cheating AI, avoid this game. It’s not completely crap, only mostly crap.
AVguy0255,
This is My Titan
2018 update:
While this game appears to be a good electronic representation of the board game, the developers have a couple of shortcuts that make the game almost unplayable.

The dice algorithm used in battle is nowhere near realistic, obviously a shortcut was taken in programming. Since I’ve been speaking out about it, it’s gotten worse. Don’t count on the dice averaging out. Also the AI characters don’t act with any intelligence, often suiciding themselves.

This is the game that I played and enjoyed for years but got away from, now on my iPad! Great graphics and interface, I took away one star because there is no online component.

UPDATE: Now after adding the online play and working out the bugs, the game plays well. I don't understand the online scoring but that's probably on me. I have run some analysis of the dice rolls during battle and the algorithm used shows some issues.
The real Mack the Hack,
Pretty good - poor AI
Fairly well done and multiplayer thru Game Center works pretty well. Sadly the AI is poor and often WAY too aggressive. Some of the AI players tend to lead with their Titan in battles too, which is horrible. Also doesn't seem to understand terrain. Will put a lion in bramble and a cyclops in the clear. If AI was better I would give five stars as everything else is good.
