So what makes the TonalEnergy the best selling music practice app?

• It's an all-in-one app, with a state-of-the-art tuner, an advanced metronome, dedicated orchestral strings and guitar tuning page, a piano keyboard, sound analysis pages, and audio/visual recording capabilities.

• It’s easy to use. Options like the Target Tuner or Pitch Tracker are on all the main pages. TonalEnergy helps users create rewarding and attainable goals during a rehearsal or when working alone. Colorful analysis data pages and audio/video recording features enhance the experience of practice.

• The metronome is cutting edge. It offers unmatched flexibility in sound choices, tempo settings, meters, subdivision patterns and visual displays. Voice count-ins, the ability to create and edit preset groups and Ableton link for syncing multiple devices make this a superior tool for performers.

• Ear training possibilities are endless. The high quality multi-sampled instrument sounds for symphonic instruments are unique among all other tuning applications. Listening skills can be developed through the use of the eight-octave keyboard, chromatic wheel and tone generator. There are no other sounds like these.

Note that you can swipe, tap, or press and drag on the dots to switch between display modes.

From 2.1.0 - Introducing the SIMPLE METRONOME!

There is now a NEW Simple Metronome mode:
- For the times you don’t need a meter or presets
- For younger or new music students who are learning to use a metronome.

To access the Simple Met, simply touch the new button in the top left of the Met page. This will allow you to toggle between Simple and Advanced (as our current metronome will be known from this point forward). Or simply tap the Met tab at the bottom.

For your convenience, when using the Advanced Met in sequence mode, you can temporarily switch to the Simple Met without interfering with the Advanced Met setup.

Other Metronome updates:
- The Met voice can now be customized for your needs on a per-beat basis, with any chosen number or a selection of NEW key words. (English only)

- Hold the “Tap Tempo” button on the Metronome page and select choices to allow MrSmileyFace to assist you in maintaining a steady pulse so that “You’ve got the beat!”

- Nine NEW animated beat visualizations, many using MrSmileyFace, have been added to the metronome page so you feel the beat and sense tempo differently! Simply swipe the Met visualization to make your choice. Tapping on the visualization will toggle special features.
Note: Some visualization special features respond to two-finger taps as well.

- In addition, if you wish, add some funk to your practice using our NEW randomized Metronome sounds. You can change every bar or beat, among a chosen range of sounds. The sound choices are found in the Met Sound pop-up.

Play along with exercises created by you on the improved Auto-Exercise Creator (AEC), found on all Sound pages
NEW features in AEC:
- Customizations for note durations include options for rests and repeats within the exercise.
- Customizations for single note lengths are now available.
- Lip Slur (Harmonic series) mode is available to generate exercises especially for brass players!
- Exercises can now be saved/loaded and exported/shared with others!
- Drones can be added to any exercise.
- The met sound can now be added to any exercise.

MORE IMPROVEMENTS

NEW: The Auto-Tone Tracking feature can now be set to sustain the initially heard note (Hold First), rather than tracking every note change. Hands-free practice when playing a scale or exercise with a root drone underneath opens new possibilities for you to explore tonality.

NEW: Our large volume dB option, in the center of the Target Tuner, can increase understanding of individual and group dynamics.

NEW: Now you can import and export your Custom Temperaments.

METRONOME RELATED

- New accelerando/ritardando support in metronome presets. See the revised tempo section in the preset editor. New modes for tempo include No Change, Fixed, Gradual (which lets you set start and end tempo), and Relative (which adjusts it +/- a specific BPM from previous).

- Added additional preset sequencing option "Single". The toggle button for sequencing the met is now 3-way. Off, Sequence All, and Sequence Single. The new mode stays on the current preset but executes the bar count and any tempo changes, then if looping is off it will stop, or if looping is on it will repeat, including any tempo changes.

- Now has ability to set a preset start and end for sequencing over (instead of just the whole list), long press on a preset button (when in sequence mode) for options.

- Added preset number and measure number to metronome preset lists, to ease creating sequences or set lists

TheGarchamp,
Very Useful but Slight Problem
This app has everything I could realistically want from it. It’s a great tuner and a great metronome.

There is one very slight problem with it though.. the daily streak feature doesn’t work. I know this seems very minor and insignificant, but I actually find motivation in keeping up a daily streak as much I can, so it’s somewhat upsetting when it resets me for no real reason. This didn’t always happen, but as of the past few months, my streak has reset when I have KNOWN that I practiced the day before. This is more often, I’ve noticed, on days that I just open the app to quickly check my tuning pitch for a brief minute, so I wonder if this problem roots from the app not having enough time to register the day? I’m no developer, so I don’t know if that is a possibility. Just to clarify, it usually works; it just occasionally resets despite me having practiced. I’m curious if others have had this problem; I’ve deleted and reinstalled the app, but nothing changed.

Regardless of this minor issue, everything else about the app is fantastic. Keep up the great work!
cea68,
Good app but don’t like the sound choices
I have just started using this app and it seems to have the main functions I was looking to consolidate from multiple other apps I use - mainly a metronome and a piano keyboard to give me notes to work through vocal practices / figure out harmonies. Also was looking for an app to buy, rather than a free app, because the ads in the free apps get annoying (and seem to be getting worse, e.g. making you watch 5 seconds of a commercial before it allows you to close it). And this one has a tuner to boot. I do have 2 suggestions: 1) Call me crazy, but if I’m just giving myself a note to sing from, I’d love it if the piano keyboard display had the option to sound like a piano. You can make it sound like a whole bunch of different instruments, many with kind of cheesy tones, but piano is not one of them. 2) Would like a mute button on the metronome, such that when in the metronome page, you can see the box (or the screen) flashing the time but without the click. I can accomplish this by turning down the volume on the side of my phone, but it takes a lot of pushes to do that so it can’t be done quickly. Otherwise I do like this app.
Kkeyz,
It's OK, to me the tuner is not great
This app was highly recommended by a friend, he had used it in our vocal rehearsals to give us pitches and tempos. I bought it to try and consolidate all the functions I need in to one app. Initially I found the tuner very jumpy, and I don't like the smiley face with concentric half circles tuning model at all, so I wrote a pretty harsh review. The developer contacted me and pointed out the string tuning mode, which I initially couldn't find because it's not in the tuning section; it's under the sound tab. It makes it much easier to tune my guitar (and it has setting for many stringed instruments from viola to banjo) but if I try to sing long tones or play them on my trumpet, I'm back in the happy face tuner. In theory it should work but to me, the slightest pitch change in a long tone causes the rings to jump erratically. I think that the string mode rescued the app from deletion, and added one star to my rating, but I will still sing and play long tones into the free "pano tuner" rather than deal with the unhappy happy faces. Kudos to the developer for helping me find my way around the app. One more quick gripe, if I'm singing with the metronome playing, the app hears the click and reacts to it, so you essentially can't tune with the metronome on.
Dtrumpey,
So much more than a tuner
I use this app every day for myself and my students. There are so many useful tools in the metronome plus section, allowing me to have preset click tracks to help students learn when and how to subdivide in their music. I can also make click tracks with drones for warmups which has greatly helped resonance an intonation. The drone tool within clock tracks is so helpful allowing me to take the brain power from playing chords on the piano, to tapping on each pre programmed drone I made for my students to match. The sound wave function is also so helpful for students to see their volume and pitch alter on note changes both as soloists and as an ensemble on their warmups and literature.

Your teaching will be so much more organized and streamlined if you really delve into this app. Take time to read up or go to one of their professional development sessions!

The perfect tool for musicians
TE Tuner is the perfect tool for musicians. It is way more than a tuner. It has an extremely flexible useful metronome, it generates sounds for drone work, and it’s analysis page is useful on so many levels it’s hard to begin to say which feature is the best. As a woodwind player I use it to analyze my airstream, my tuning and watch my timing. This app also allows the user to record themselves, using high-quality audio files if needed. These files can be exported for use in other apps, or to share with others, and audio files can be imported into the app.

I have been recommending this app to all my students, and just about any other musician who I encounter. I use it every day during my practice sessions and it has become an indispensable tool for my daily practice.

If I could give this 10 stars I would. I cannot recommend TE Tuner more highly.
Scott'76,
Tuner is out of tune?
I compared the tuner function against multiple korg model timers and found this app to be all over the map with the tuning. Some notes that were in tune on the korg tuners were showing 15 cents flat or sharp!! That is a problem with the app. How can you have a “tuning” app out of tune? I’ll be sticking with the korg.

BTW they were both set at 440

UPDATE: I revised my original rating from 2 stars to 5. First because after a great response by the developer I discovered that I had a setting incorrect even though the Hz setting was correct. Second because of the excellent customer service! I never expected Total Energy to read my review but they did and they reacted to make sure I was satisfied. That is rare these days!!! Awesome tuner...I have since retested the App vs. the various Korg model tuners I have and they are all spot on!
aweome music,
Mixed meter metronome issues
I love this app and use it nearly every day. It’s an excellent place to start my practicing and rehearsals. The ability to create metronome presets is really helpful, but I find it really difficult to program anything with mixed meter. It’s an issue that doesn’t effect everyone, but I’d really appreciate being able to create a click track for a piece with meter changes where the sixteenth note remains constant. The current process is really clunky and makes things really confusing. It’s also impossible to practice things under tempo without editing every single preset. For a piece with probably 80 meter changes, it’s almost not worth it. The current methods for asymmetrical meters are pretty annoying to deal with. I feel like it’s much more common to see music in 7/8 where the tempo is given by the quarter note rather than dotted quarter, and would love for the interface to reflect that.
Plainburge,
Please Add a Spectrogram with lines indicating all twelve chromatic notes
There was an app in the AppStore that is unfortunately no longer here, called pitchlab guitar tuner. Why I preferred it for use in rehearsals such as for my saxophone quartet or saxophone section is because it maps all the notes being played (by multiple people!) on a spectrogram with lines that show the frequency of all twelve chromatic pitches for tuning comparison. If a note was far away from a line, it was out of tune. It was also helpful for being able to see vibrato. Especially if we are working as a section on playing vibrato together, you could actually see if everyone is playing vibrato and see exactly what the vibrato looks like! I already noticed the spectral feature in your app, however I don’t see how it could be useful to musicians given the current design of it. Anyways please add this feature, if you do it’ll make my day :)
creativephotosol,
Best Ever!!
This is the Best tool ever for improving tone! I am an inspiring soprano saxophonist—it is one of the most difficult instruments to play in-tune. I struggled for an entire year using other resources and methods to develop my tone. Use of the sustain mode using my Bluetooth headphones has trained my ear to almost perfectly matching tone. The Activity Summary is an exceptional daily journal of my progress and has helped me to troubleshoot my embrouchure. Over a three week period my tone quality has improved 65%. I’m SOOOO excited about my progress and future as a sexy senior sax player…. Regardless of where you are in your musical journey Be sure to get this App! Best tool EVER for developing your ear and refining your sound!
Boat hippie,
Amazing value!
I am a music student and lesson teacher so I pretty much use this app every day. I’ve tried a bunch of the other metronome apps on the App Store and none of them even come close to the quality and reliability of this one. The tuner is great and the metronome is reliable and has a ton of subdivisions and time signatures. One of my favorite functions is the ability to create click tracks. I found this to be extremely helpful when practicing pieces that change meter often. You can even save multiple click tracks and share them to others. All in all this is be of the best small purchases I’ve made, well worth the money!
