Armenta2040,
So happy
Wow growing up, I loved singing and enjoyed singing for my mom and her friends. I was told I could sing my lil heart out but tried out in 5th grade chorus and it was between myself and my friend for the last spot. Well, It’s a Small world was the song to sing. I only knew the catchy verses, but I hit every note she threw at me and then was told I was tone death. My pride was hurt. My 5th teacher and friends were in shock and I remember my friend barely sing and the chorus teacher pick her instead. So instead of singing I decided to join band. I never knew what tone death was and was scared to ask. I woke up this morning and remembered this out the blue. Looked it up and got this app. Took the test & I know after all these years(38yrs) I am not tone death.
child of corn,
AMAZING!!! 😄😄
This app was amazing! Sometimes when I sing along to songs I notice my notes don’t quite match up with the singer’s (especially when I would sing an octave higher). So I downloaded this app to help tell me if I was tone deaf. Turns out, I wasn’t. 😄 It also has some other great features such as teaching you how to sing, and giving you information about tone deafness. For me, the quiz was pretty easy. I don’t know if that’s true for everyone, or just me. If you want to improve your singing, even if you’re almost positive you’re not tone deaf, you should download this app.
Cobweb Hunter,
I’m a lazy old guy.
I have always had a poor singing voice. There have been some social situations where this has caused self-consciousness/ embarrassment . I am toying with the idea of discretely seeing a voice coach and then surprising spouse and friends by actually singing an easy karaoke song in a public setting and doing a good job of it. I took this test as a first step. It was fast and easy. (I did have to listen to some of the more subtle examples more than once, but scored 36/36! Now for the next step.)
Indivittle,
A world of hurt
I have a spatial deficit from a childhood head trauma. My connection with music has always been full of holes and blank spaces. I have an excellent ear for language and spoken voice intonations. My relationship to music is chaotic. I got 88% on tone deaf test. I get tired very quickly from the different sounds and pitches. Sensory overload! This app is a gateway. I can work on this.

I love the premise of this app. It can be very difficult to test a student's ear individually in the choral classroom. I do, however, take issue with the words "You might be tone deaf..." scrawled across the screen if a student does poorly on their test. I went back to see what happened if somebody did poorly and was disappointed to see that instead of encouraging the candidate to practice ans try again, the app instantly reinforces the belief that the candidate is already tone deaf. I would love to use this with my students, but don't want them thinking they are tone deaf if they test poorly.
Thump-Thump-Thump-Thump,
100% Correct
Someone complained about how easy the test was, thinking that because he had scored 100%, that the test must be flawed. What he doesn’t realize is that it proves beyond a shadow of doubt that he in not tone deaf. The simplicity of the test is it’s own validity. You'll either get a perfect score, or you won’t.
Vickie_qc,
Fabulous test and very easy to take
This is a very easy way to get rid of the stigma of being tone deaf so you can actually progress to teach your voice to be accurate instead of thinking you are doomed and will never sing accurately. Great way to start on the road of voice training!
RPX999,
Not Tone deaf, although I sing like I am.
I got 100% on this test 12/12 in all three sections. I think my singing is beyond help. I do play guitar, and when I play with my friends I am the only one who doesn't even sing backup vocals. However, I can hear a song and play it on my guitar, I don't think someone who's tone deaf could play by ear.
Musical Dinosaur,
Fun Test
this is a really nice, well made app. I scored 100% and it wasnt difficult to make the choices, so i wondered about the validity of the test. I sent it to a friend to try (terrible taste in music), he bombed it. 52%. So apparently it does what it says it does. The dog was very fascinated by it as well. Had a hard time getting her to choose an answer though.
Xxlegionx,
Had to know
I played instruments when I was younger, but could never sing. People throw around the term "tone deaf" so freely that I started wondering if maybe I was. Especially since it's been so long. Scored a perfect 100 and has removed doubt, so I can go forward with training to sing.
