Write It! Thai Hack 4.1.4 + Redeem Codes

This is the first Thai app I’ve found that is successfully helping me learn the letters of the Thai alphabet. Others just show you the letters and expect them to stick, but this breaks them down into smaller groups and has you trace each one which really helps with retention.

I love the basic functionality of writing practice, which also (especially with the audio) really helps with learning the huge alphabet. A few suggestions for improvement:

— the vowels are incomplete as of July 2023. There seems to be a lot missing when one compares the content here to a standard Thai vowel chart.

— as another reviewer said, I think it would be useful to have the vowels taught by the sound: sara ah, sara ee, etc. for most of them. This seems to be how they are taught in many books and videos. But I am not sure how to deal with the characters for which the character names are themselves important. And I appreciate that the app does teach some of that. It’s difficult to get it all in one app, I imagine.

— I agree with the reviewer who suggested indicating the class of consonants so the tone implications can be learned at the same time

— and maybe include the tone-changing marks and their names? (Somewhat advanced but would make this app even more impressive)

— At a much more basic level, it would be very helpful to include in the text the Thai meanings of the consonant names so we can learn like Thai children do: ก ko kai k as in chicken, ศ so sala s as in pavilion, ษ so ruesi s as in hermit, etc.

All that said, this is a quite helpful app.

I love this app. It has been an invaluable tool for learning the Thai alphabet. The only issue is this latest update has a very bad bug where the audio prompts will not play when switching to a new character or be so delayed the sound plays over the next character reveal. Please fix this bug to make the app functional again. Thank you!

Overall I like this app very much! I’m much more concentrated when I have to trace the letters so I memorize the consonants more easily.
There’s only one problem. For vowels, you provide the names of the vowels other than their actual pronunciation. As a beginner, and I believe most of the users are, I care more about how to pronounce the vowels themselves but not their names. We don’t need to know their names to practice Thai, but we do need to know the pronunciation.

I love it all. If possible, please allow a “review” setting that allows the user to make a specific Thai character list so that they can practice characters that they are having a difficult time with. :)

This is such a good app.

The only thing missing is teaching the class of consonants, which would be quite helpful for learning the tone rules.

So far I really like this and it’s just what I’m looking for! One thing I do miss though is the pictures with the English definition. For instance Kgo Kgai would have the picture of the chicken with the English word “chicken” under it. Thanks!

Basically a good app I can think of some improvements that would be helpful. It is very difficult to use on the small phone with finger.
It would also
be nice if the tracing of the letter and recognition of the letter exercises were separated.

Hyphenated words selection is poor so you end up waisting your time.
Example the Thai consonant for chicken is written Ko Kai, most others will use gaw gai.
Thai consonant for plate is written Cho Chan when most others use jaw jaan.
Thai consonant for horse White It only has Mo Ma when others use a much better maw maa.
Purchased this to learn incorrectly…

Another crappy ‘learn to read thai’ app that never goes over reading. It’s just to learn the names of the characters. and drawing characters on a touch screen doesn’t teach you how to write. When will these app developers figure that out?
