New Game Engine! Greatly improved player controls, much better UI, enhanced gameplay puts more control of your items and survival party in your hands!

This version is compatible with all iPad versions, and iPhone 3GS and later, and iPod touch 3G and 4G

"For those of a certain age who loved adventure game books, it’s the perfect app to play and one that players will find themselves returning to. Not least because they’ll have to be pretty skilled to ‘win’!"

4 out of 5 stars - Jennifer Allen, 148 Apps.com

"I've been having a blast with this since it's essentially gameifies what runs through my head whenever I read or watch a piece of zombie content, but it's also solid production-wise. I heartily recommend this to anyone that still has an itch for zombies, or even an appreciation of primarily text-based titles."

~ 4/5 stars - Brad Nicholson, Toucharcade

"ZDAY is a 21st century text-based Simulator game that puts you the player in tough, real-world situations. The game play is easy and you can soon control it well."

~ 4/5 stars - Top10app.com

"4/5 Stars" - Dan Zuccarelli, Gamezebo.com

What better way to survive a full blown apocalypse than to PRACTICE? This is not a traditional shooter or an arcade style game where you poke buttons to shoot digital bullets at virtual zombies. ZDAY is a 21st century text-based Simulator that puts you the player in tough, real-world situations and says "what would YOU do?".

Created and Designed by Animator and Director Ed Anderson, and beautifully illustrated by renowned DC comics artist Matt Haley, ZDAY is an intelligent adventure game that starts you in a crowded suburb at ground zero of a full blown infection, and says "what would you do?". Faced with one scenario after another, the player has to make choices that will either lead him to escape the zombie-filled suburbs or perish like so many others. The sophisticated game engine keeps track of every decision that you make, and keeps a running tab on your survival probability based on the choices you make.
So keep your wits about you, and choose carefully, because one wrong move could have you facing a zombie horde or roving bands of trigger-happy looters.
The detailed results given after the player has completed the challenge provides very useful insight to what he may have done right and wrong. If the player wants to try again he can, and since the game engine reshuffles many of the exact events, ZDAY Survival Simulator is never exactly the same twice.

XxA3X190xX,
Underrated.
Still to this day I like this game no wait. I love this game just because it's a nice little zombie apocalypse roleplaying survival simulator that I don't quite see a game a lot like this I'd really enjoyed playing it that I kept replaying it to get different endings and do different choices in each time I play to see if I can get better results in the end. I definitely am addicted to this game and I recommend it if you are into zombie roleplaying games I know it's been a long time that the developers haven't made a single new update for this game in years and there is a bug were you can get stuck in a scenario were you run to escape from the police after a gun fight with them, the moment when the game tells you that you got injured no choices pops up and you can't do anything but to close down the app and start over and I don't think that the developers will ever fix this because like I said it's already a long time that this game didn't get a single new update, I can only hope that the developers can read this review and fix this problem. Overall this game is an underrated masterpiece the developers or anyone should definitely make more games like this we need more zombie roleplaying games such like this and I would pay good money to anyone that does make it. I rate this 4/5 stars as good.
Hoshi-kun,
Issues with battle play
I understand the whole game system along with almost every people who downloaded this wonderful game. the only problem it lacked was the in depth tutorial about how much damage each weapon causes and battling issues: the battling issues are that we do not know, in depth, if we actually hit the target (zombies/bad guys). sometimes the first few battles requires more than 7 taps on the "fight " button. i couldn't kill the enemy in the end due to not knowing if the weapons or the characters aiming / hits / damage are inaccurate or weak. I am not sure about this game. there's still a lot of work to fix in the game via the battling and weaponry.
White Savior,
No more stuff.
This game was fun at first but quickly got boring. I explored, bought story packs, and made it to level 20 in less than a month but as time went on the problems began to become more obvious. First of all, there's no real way to contact the developers. Secondly, it hasn't been updated since 2014. Thirdly, my exploration with a vehicle still costs me food. And last but not least, crafting. There's no posted crafting guide. So here I have things like powdered milk, can openers, wood saw, and HAM radio with nothing to do to them. I was hoping to maybe contact a group with the ham radio. My generator doesn't do anything. And things like a GPS do nothing. So here's a wood to developers. Update Update Update!!! Things like a gas generator and a can of gas should make a working gas generator to make a source of electricity. From there and electric fence should be possible. It doesn't take 4 things to craft some materials. Some things can take more and some can take less. Put a hell of a lot more stories! We want them. Make cars dependent on gas. And one more idea, if I search a hospital, why would I find fishing line!? I should find a vitamin. Therefore, makes available resources location based. Like a police station can have body armor. A military armory, a weapon. A parking lot, a car or car parts. You can do so much more with this game, cars, weapons, crafting, and defenses. Update it already!!!
Thepeterbread,
Fun but combat is very frustrating
The game it self is very fun and addictive. Each choice can either save you or harm you. But, the only reason why I'm giving it 3 stars is because of its confusing combat system. It seems that the icon with the "i" on the bottom right corner is your health. Also, it makes no sense when zombies are still able to attack when you choose to "fall back". Melee weapons seem to do almost nothing when fighting against 2 zombies. When you use a gun, sometimes you randomly use 1 bullet or the whole magazine depending on how your character feels like. There is a vague explanation on combat, but we need a more elaborate explanation to this. The developers need to help us understand the system so we don't keep dying after each encounter. This is very confusing and frustrating.
aFamily3,
Great, except for the combat
This is a great, choose-your-own-story game. I like how it gives you lots of choices per turn, and I really like how most other survivors, but not everyone, is hostile.

A couple things irk me, though. For one, the combat and inventory systems are rather bumpy. I can't figure out how the "initiative bar" works (maybe it doesn't), and you can put other things, like survivors, into what I assume to be the equipment slots, making me wonder if they actually work.

Overall, it's a very fun text based story, if you can get past the combat system. Give it a try!

Fun but...
It's fun and actuality entertaining as an adventure book app. Problem is, when you die, sorry but there's no going back to right before you died. You have to start all the way over. This gets to be repetitive and annoying. You're also stuck with the weapon you choose and no switching during fights. There are some glitches like when I had several weapons but it wouldn't allow me to change out a bat with a sword and hammer or a rifle. I died. Then I tried again and I was able to. Only sometimes will it allow me to change Dave's weapons out and allow him to fight with me by adding him to the front of my screen. Not every time though. Great concept for a survival game though and I hope it gets better and better.
ftp12,
How do I even play?
This game is pretty confusing. First of all, it took me a while to figure out how the inventory even works but that's not the most confusing part, fighting is. How do you even control the fighting scenario?!? "Lift initiate bar to advance"... what? I have no idea what that means; I lift it up but nothing happens. At the bottom of the inventory (during a fight) it says "No mercy" and then gives some + and - stats; what does that mean?! Also I hit fight and something happens but I don't know what. And after somehow finishing the fight, it still said I had 0 kills. Developers, please update the game, giving us an in depth tutorial on how fighting works because right now this game is practically unplayable for me.
Logan666zz,
Not like the old days
Welp I was excited but all those days when 12 year old me actually spent money on this game I played this game for 2 years when it was taken off the App Store due to google maps being privatized which I get but I prob spent over 100$ originally getting every weapon like the survivalist-axe-shotgun
Every companion I had over 45 bases all over America and two where successfully raided
But this game is like 10 steps forwards and 1,000,000 steps backwards with a survival skill of 87% and 4 companions on my 5th play threw of hospital I am very disappointed and I’d feel dumb if there is a way to get the old game back but I feel as if it’s lost to the 30 people who played it sad to say I miss the old game
Thunder0192,
Epicness intensifies
I love this game. It's near impossible to find a good text based rpg and this one is the best. The story is great, the battle system is nice, and the amount of gameplay counts towards hours of fun. Some bugs could be sorted out (ex. The combat helmet is invisible) and it would be good to comb through the game for typos, but I still love it. Willing and waiting to buy expansion packs, and would recommend to my friends, zombie enthusiasts, and apocalyptic survivalists anywhere. Keep up the good work, hope to see some nice updates.
OxcartMC,
Used to be great...
Prior to its recent update, ZDay was a lot of fun; sort of a choose-your-own-adventure comic book (sorry, graphic novel). With the addition of the new combat system, though, the game became nearly unplayable, and definitely less entertaining. It's no longer about making sound survival decisions, but more about navigating through a difficult-to-understand combat system. There's no effective documentation or tutorial to help players learn the new systems, and the game is now dependent upon a new and non-intuitive gameplay mechanic. With some repair work and better tutorials, ZDay could be great again, but for now, it's really not.
