THEDEADGEAR,
Amazing game
i personally really liked this game alot. the main story is well thought out and very compelling i found myself wanting to find out more and more. the art work is beautiful and while sone what simple it really brings out the rustic feeling of the old world. game play is intence on normal and hard, easy is a good way to learn the mechanics and rules of combat. one thing i really like was that every time i played the main story basicly stayed the same but the events on the road were always diffrent and very rewarding when you help someone and later on in game in a desprate situation that person you helped 40 days ago helps you and saves you. there are only 2 things i didnt really like but this is just my opinion. one thing was the game seemed to be over quickly but my first run took me about 10 hours. the 2nd thing was that the ending i wasnt thrilled about only because it left me wanting more n wishing i could exsplore more of the vast land before me. all in all great game good re-play value and well worth the 10$ i would highly recommend buying this game i enjoyed it alot and i hope you do too.
brutalball,
I played this game 3 times
The first time I played I couldn't import my game into Banner Saga 2. The second time I played, I did it over the course of a weekend in an attempt to start Banner Saga 2 right after. Seeing that Banner Saga 2 was just as challenging, if not more challenging, than the first game, I put it down. I just picked up Banner Saga 1 and played through it a third time, so that I could maintain story cohesion for Banner Saga 2. I'm glad I did!! Banner Saga 2 was very epic in a lot of new ways, while maintaining all of the really cool features of the first: nail-biting strategy RPG battles, nail-biting Oregon Trail choice making, a KILLER musical score, and beautiful art. I will probably play Banner Saga 2 a second time in anticipation of playing the third. Thank you for this beautiful RPG, very exciting and memorable!
Arnaldo Iphone 5,
FF: Tactics and Tactical Ogre Fans Rejoice!
I have long been a fan of Tactics RPG games and this a great alternative for mobile gaming in the same line as some of the greatest ever. The storyline, game play mechanics and to some extent the music/FX are all masterfully put together to satisfy those who yearn for the better, simpler days of role playing. I will not dive deep in this review but this app is deff worth the penny. Prepare to submerge in many hours of fun tactics play with decently developed characters that place you on a viking-ish world with many fun elements. The only reason I wouldn’t rate the game a solid 5 is that the control system does take away some of the joy out of the game. There is no map rotation and its hard to select the correct square grid or even the dialogue options as they are placed to close. Not being able to manually save is another issue. Regardless, I can feel this game will be one that I will cherish as a new fave and can’t wait to play the rest of the saga.
The Scrunch,
Mostly good
I really enjoyed this game but there are a couple problems.
1. The fight scenes. If I can only move one guy per turn, I at least should be able to choose which guy. It is totally possible in a real fight, some guys-like archers-would stay in one place. Why can’t I move the same guy twice in a row? I have to waste a turn telling an archer to stay in place.
2. Got a little boring watching my numbers go down-morale, clansmen, varl, supplies-as my little line of dudes marched on through the viking wilderness. I would have liked the option for the caravan members to hunt along their way. Maybe the game developers wanted to stress the cruel leanness of the times. Something to think about.
This game is extremely story driven, lots and lots of choosing dialogue and watching cartoon twiddling of fingers and blinking.
That said, the animation is awesome, the dialogue smart, and the soundtrack beautiful. The backstory is compelling and I had quite a few hours being engrossed.
HeavyShevy,
Good game, but...
You need to update it so it fits my entire iPhone X screen. It is soooooo difficult to read everything! It’s so tiny! The words are too small. Also, there are a lot of spelling errors and lastly there are several situations where no matter what option you choose it is the same outcome. So why have an option in that case? So far I’ve enjoyed the game. However I’ve had to look up how to play it for advance tutorials. The in game tutorials are lacking a little. Obviously it has Great artwork and interesting story. I’d give it four stars if the update it for iPhone X. Until than I will continue to squint. I would give it five stars if the options you choose in the game (or choices you make) have a greater influence on the story, not just influencing moral, supplies, and renown. For an iOS game this is a great one! So I can’t complain but I do offer those ideas towards improving it. Thanks
mitchellroeske,
Great port, great game, amazing memories
I’m a very picky iOS gamer. When I first bought this game, I knew it was a big commitment. And it is, you need to plan on playing this for multiple hours because it’s that immersive. And after completing this game, I’m in love with the world that this story takes place in.

The developers, writers, and beautiful minds over at Stoic have my whole heart. It’s so rare to find a game that on every level makes you impressed. There was never a point in the game (on iOS or PC) where I thought, “not a fan.” The story, the music, the voice acting, the controls, the gameplay, the map, and the world design have made me fall in love. Congrats Stoic, you have my full support if you continue to put this much effort and love into your games. For such a small game and for only $9.99, you have truly made one of my favorite games of all time. I may never meet you guys, but I hope your careers are long and prosperous because I want to keep playing Banner Saga.

P.S. This game is perfect for my style of gaming, but not for others. It’s all preference.

Edit: Thanks for the response, and thank you for sharing with the team! Can’t wait to play Banner Saga 3!
KevoAllanPoe,
Gaming as art
Gorgeous artwork, excellent storyline, complex characters, and compelling game design are threads that weave a tapestry of profound experience. The darkness of humanity and civilization combat the better angels of our nature, usually between parties but often within individuals, including you, the player, who is forced to make difficult decisions that impact the game and your relationships within it. This combines with a unique system of resource management and combat mechanics that leave you wanting more. By the end of the game (which I played for at least 12 hours), you forget the somewhat steep price (for a mobile game) because the experience is well worth it. Stoic has gone above and beyond with this saga. I will be purchasing parts 2 (on iOS) and 3 (on PS4).
justin strong,
Very efficient game!!!!!!
Written on: Monday January 30, 2018
First off, i bought this game December 14, 2017 and just completed it two days ago. While this is a review, i will also address people's complaints.

The banner saga is a grimly tale of Norse mythology set to the tone of a viking Oregon Trail, meaning it is very strategic and consequential if not played like that! Their are 7 chapters in the game each with very heavy dialogue sections that are not voice acted, and is set to be a trilogy. The controls are fine and tailored to ios so you won't have a problem. The animations are beautifully drawn out as you transverse the 11-15 hour game. Their is a very non existent settings in the game where all you can do is select your language, volume/ music on or off and that's it however i will have to commend the developers because they actually incorporated extra settings in your device settings for the game which to my knowledge has never been done before!

overall, The story of banner saga is one of hardships, choice and consequence and strategy where one wrong move means defeat!!!!!
Chookamonga,
Beautiful, creative, strategic fun!
Easily one of the best games ever on iPad. Gorgeous artwork and a compelling storyline replete with twists based upon a player's leadership decisions. Couple that with a turn-based strategic battle system that rewards foresight, team synergy, and thoughtful use of limited upgrade points and items, and you've got a dead lock winner. The range of characters and abilities allow lots of experimentation and the dynamic storyline often leaves you wondering if you could've handled a situation better, giving the game very high replay value. My only complaint is that the story ended hahaha. On to part 2, and hoping for an iOS version of part 3 soon!
Gschmoney8,
It’s Banner Time
Stoic has presented a beautiful game with interesting character development and a cool unique art style. Combat however can be a nightmare. Moves are turn based and movement is tile based with locked decisions Incase you misclick. There are odd combat features including enemies being able to move past you without opportunity attacks and odd ranged attacks which can shoot far straight but only half the distance diagonally in certain cases. I found the whole thing to be a bit clunky which is a shame because the story is phenomenal and the game does a great job at keeping you hooked and always on your back foot ensuring you never feel too powerful. All in all I think this brings the game to a 3/5 for me as it’s less of a game and more an interactive story.
