Description

You are the captain of a starship venturing through a massive open universe. Customize your crew and take command at the helm of your very own ship as you explore a galaxy torn apart by internal strife, alien threats, and political intrigue.

Command your ship and crew as a space pirate, merchant, bounty hunter, and more in Star Traders: Frontiers – an epic space RPG from Trese Brothers Games. Venture forth into a massive open universe, rich with adventure and the lore of the Star Traders. Choose your path by assembling and commanding your custom crew and spaceship in a constantly evolving galaxy torn by internal strife, political intrigue, and alien threats. Will you fly as a pirate terrorizing shipping lanes, join the solar wars as a military captain, or track targets across the stars as a fearsome bounty hunter?

- Explore a rich, open universe: Discover endless procedurally-generated galactic maps, meet unique characters, and take on enemies to conquer the galaxy!
- Become an intergalactic captain: Take on the role of a spy, smuggler, explorer, pirate, merchant, bounty hunter, and more (26 jobs total)!
- Customize your own spaceship: Choose from more than 350 upgrades and 45 ship hulls to build your very own vessel to venture across the vast reaches of space.
- Assemble and tailor a loyal crew: Assign talents and equip specialized gear for every spaceship crew member.
- Experience an ever-changing narrative: Decide to make friends or foes with other factions and influence political, economic, and personal vendettas.
- Mold the crew by your choices: As you make decisions and set the tone for your ship, your crew will grow and change to match. Destroy enemy ships with all hands on deck and your crew will become more bloodthirsty and savage. Explore distant worlds and loot dangerous wastelands and your crew will become intrepid and clever ... or scarred and half-mad.
- Varied Difficulty Options! play with save slots to try out different builds or storylines or turn on character permadeath and enjoy classic roguelike experience
- Achievement Unlocks: accomplish story and challenge goals to unlock additional optional (but not better) content like new starting ships and new starting contacts

First there was the Exodus – when survivors of a great war left the ruins of the Galactic Core behind in search of a new home in the stars. Scattered worlds were claimed on the fringe of the galaxy. Each pocket of survivors held on to an isolated set of worlds while trying to rebuild under the great law of Shalun. Three centuries later, technology has brought them back together again. Discovery of the hyperwarp has bridged what was once an unimaginable distance between far-flung colonies, long-lost families, and political factions.

With that reunification has come great economic prosperity. The hyperwarp reestablished the transportation of cargo, goods, and technologies between the quadrants – but it has also brought great strife. Political rivalries have been rekindled, blood has been shed in age-old feuds, and the fires of war have been stoked. Amidst the political infighting, a ruthless revolution is rising – and the fervent explorers of the hyperwarp have awoken something that was better left asleep.

Our very first game, Star Traders RPG, took hundreds of thousands of gamers on an interstellar adventure. Star Traders’ success and overwhelmingly positive reception helped to launch Trese Brothers Games. It was the adventures of our community’s star-crossed captains that put us on a trajectory to share more of our worlds, ideas, and dreams.

We set out to capture the loneliness, bravery, and camaraderie of people living together in a spaceship sailing across the stars. It is with great pride that after releasing four other games in the Star Traders universe, we’ve created a sequel to the original Star Traders RPG.

Step onto the bridge of your starship, take to the stars, and create your own story in Star Traders: Frontiers.

Mr dr prof patrick,
Glitch fix please
Came across a weird glitch I think. Was working for someone, had two missions I was working on, when all of a sudden when I got to my destination the missions had vanished. I went back but the contact had also disappeared. Is that supposed to happen? Why did she disappear? Also for some reason have had a couple mutinies without cause. Like high moral and not short on crew, so if everybody is happy and we are fully staffed then why am I getting mutinies? Wasn’t even after a battle or anything jus random mutiny while traveling. And not sure if glitch or if Im doing it wrong but even if I get the perk and proper permits to capture a prize ship it dosent let me. Are the prize ships the main battle ships or the small ships launched durring battle? If its the small ones could you add some sort of system where we cab tow a captured main ship back to a port and repair and keep it or sell it for money. It would also be nice if all the dry docks were connected because I had left a ship at one before and wasn’t able to find it again. Maybe at least make a system that tells you where all your owned ships are? Also could you add some sort of help page so I don’t have to go through apple to report glitches? I feel like these aren’t usually read. Anyway aside from those glitches the game is really fun and I have been enjoying playing it.
TroyHepfner,
Excellent game!
I took a chance on this one, even though there was no demo, because I’ve been looking for a good space sim that lets me move about freely and choose my own career path. After looking into the game online, reading/watching reviews, etc., I bought the game. It has not disappointed. I’ve been having a blast with it! There are so many choices, and the universe goes on no matter what you do. I chose to ignore some of the main story to follow my own path, and events unfolded without my involvement. Now I want to replay it to see if I could have affected the outcome. I chose to play as a spy my first time through, avoiding combat as much as possible. I’ve been largely successful, except for one crew battle where I lost two of my best soldiers and was forced to surrender to spare the other two. I’ve got one faction so mad at me, that their ships attack me on sight, and their planets deny me all fueling, medical, and repair services! Thanks for the fun game. Well done!
Hybrid20/the mh vet,
Mind blowing
“Is this seriously a mobile game?” was what I first asked when I first booted it up. This game is big and I mean big. At first it’s a lot to take in, you start off with like 30 crew members in your ship and they all play a part in your experience from passing skill checks, helping in blockades, patrols, and spying they also help in combat (space and ground). Then the contact and faction system is just woah(can’t even put into words atm). Every choice felt like it mattered and it also felt like the galaxy changed around me from those choices. This game is truly a diamond in the rough for mobile Gamers and is highly recommend it, if you like rpgs this game is for you. I’ll see you among the stars traders. Another plus is the fact that the developers are constantly communicating and updating the game. Like seriously I feel like everyday I check for updates star traders is the first thing to pop up on what needs an update.
JLFiggy,
Endless galaxies but little to explore.
The game has a fair amount of depth mechanically, both in and out of combat, and whether you’re a smuggler, pirate, or bounty hunter, there are a ton of ways to make money. And it’s getting constantly updated and bug-fixed, so it’s nice to see how the game is updating weekly. The narrative elements that are in the game are interesting.

But the narrative experience is a bit hollow and the world is devoid of charm. There’s not much to really grind towards - no bases to build, fleets to run, and the allies you make are little more than glorified fetch-quest givers - though that’s all you’ll be doing. The difficulty is also wonky, you’ll quickly be hunted by other factions unless you play extremely neutral (which is all but impossible) and on bigger maps this makes getting around a real pain in the rear.

The game has a lot of potential, I’m excited to see where it goes. Will update later.
Crashy Crasherton,
Fun but much better on a PC
Really fun game, lots of complexity, challenge, and replay-ability. My main gripe with these kinds of games is that to play optimally, it requires some very tedious save/reloading to roll good crew, missions, etc.

I’d give this a 4, maybe 5 star review if it weren’t for the User Interface (UI), which was clearly made for a PC with a keyboard+mouse and a large screen. Many buttons are super small and hard to click on, font sizes are super small, and accidentally selecting the wrong item due to an errant finger swipe, getting a phone call, etc. is a very real possibility. This last point can be especially brutal considering the permanent and brutal consequences of single actions in-game.

Would have been nice if the developers had made more optimizations for the mobile app UI when they ported this over, but I get it, time is money and this a way for them to make some bonus cash from a game they already developed…I just wish it didn’t few that way.
Will glovinsky,
So good...
I don’t often write reviews, mostly because I don’t often come across an iPhone game that is impactful. This game though...
This is definitely the best space game in the App Store and in contention for best overall. (Stiff competition from Stardew valley) So, what would this game need for me to view it as the greatest of all time? If the player had the ability to run his own faction and own a quadrant. Where she/he could build their own orbital stations, farms, lux pops, refineries etc. If politics played a role in that and you could have your political allies/ factions join in building stations and cities on planets. If you could be a king/queen governor governess what have you... this game would be the greatest of all time. That being said, I do not want to take away from the developers accomplishments. This game is absolutely amazing and I appreciate the love they put in it!! It will always be a favorite
Koiutflycb,
Great game overall with minor flaws
I love this game; it reminds me of the old "Starflight.". I've pretty much been playing it non-stop for months. But it's not perfect, which sometimes leads to some frustration. I'll cover these below:

Pros: The ability to customize evetything! Your Captain, crew, ship, equipment.
The totally open nature of play; you don't have to do ANY of the story missions.
Absorbing main story lines.
Great ship and crew combat; stylized and simple in mechanics, but detailed in options and customizable to suit your style.
The talent system and faction rank/permit system that allows you to avoid most hostile encounters as time goes on (see below).
Developer support; updates, great online boards with developer presence!

Cons: The card games! These are ridiculously biased towards bad events, and talents for replacing/removing cards don't increase the probability of mission success, they only remove or alter a negative. This is a major frustration since EVERYTHING requires the card game.
The random encounters actually seem to increase as the game progresses, making it more and more difficult to perform routine tasks like flying around. This frustration is mitigated by the talents you get and your faction rank/permits, so isn't as much a frustration as the card game (though a xeno or hostile bounty hunter can still ruin yor day!).
Vieshka1591,
Additional Feature Idea
Backed the game on KS years ago and still loving it. However, when rolling a new captain, I often spend an hour or so rerolling until I get an initial crew which I’m comfortable playing with. I would be really interested to see a complete “custom crew” feature, where at a minimum, the attributes or other starting features (traits, jobs) of our officers could be determined. Personally, I’d rather start with a Commander than a Quartermaster, a starting Nav officer always gets dumped, as will anyone Ill Tempered, Rigidly Lawful, and 2/4 starting “fighter” crew (soldier/swords/pistoleer), and my starting Doc is one of my primary fighters, so I usually reroll until I’m certain they’d eventually survive the Jyeeta. Again, great game, love it, but after so many playthroughs, this would be interesting (even as a post Jyeeta unlock).
meta732,
XS Max, iOS 12.x
This great indie company treats the App Store like Steam with frequent, substantive post-release updates & improvements. Think along the lines of successful free-to-play titles (eg, a consistent money-maker about clans clashing) that have taken over the App Store but better because the Trese Brothers don’t hold anything back or hide content behind paywalls. Star Traders Frontiers raises the bar for premium experiences on iOS because you get all of that plus a phenomenal experience. Check the Steam reviews or Rock Paper Shotgun for in-depth feedback regarding the UI and gameplay. Spoiler: it’s an exceptional experience. Thanks to the Trese Brothers team, and I hope this one sells millions of copies. Be prepared for years of continued support for STF. Templar Battleforce Elite, which was released in 2015, just received yet another meaningful update in late January of 2019. That’s the gold standard.
SpydrMunky,
Pretty awesome, some suggestions
Really great turn-based game with so much randomization it keeps you guessing, plotting, cussing, making notes, restarting, honing lol... I would give this 5* if it was a free game; since it has kind of a high price tag I think it could use a few improvements:
1) still no retirement button for captains that have been out there awhile? I saw a few threads online from a couple of years back mentioning this, and so far I haven’t come across an end-of-career option so what gives?
2) when I’m flying my Sword Battlecruiser around, why am I still attacked by spies, bounty hunters, zealots and the like flying ships that I can just chew up, spit out and be on my way? I know there are components I can add to my ship to reduce random encounters, but why would these insects be attacking something that can so obviously stomp them? Even if they’re extremely hostile, they should just be hurling strong language at me from afar.
3) could definitely use an art upgrade. I’m not expecting cutting-edge graphics but the character art is just a bad joke.

Anyway, still enjoying the game, and I *do* think it’s worth the price, especially given that it’s still being actively developed. Just would like to see these 3 things improved :)
