2021-06-23
Hi Scouts! We're pleased to release this, our first major update to Cozy Grove! The changelist for this "Summer Festival" update is enormous, so here's a list of just the most important things:
- New feature: Critter-catching! A whole assortment of crawling and flying critters (with seasonal variation) will now populate the item. You can buy a net from Mr. Kit to catch them – like the fishing rod, it will never break. Mr. Kit is fond of critters and will pay a reasonable amount for any that you catch.
- New content: Decorations and Clothing! There's a ton of new decorations, hairstyles and clothing that we've tucked into various parts of the game. Some is tied exclusively to certain events and/or bears.
- New content: Photo Standees! We've noticed a bunch of you sharing screenshots of yourself standing behind Jeremy Gruffle's photo standee, so we added a bunch more to his biome. Every time the biome regenerates, one will randomly be selected.
- New event NPC: Ms. Carouse! Sometime this summer, Ms. Carouse will appear on the island, where she will remain for a couple weeks. This mysterious figure will kick off a celebration. That's all we're saying for now!
- New feature: Hug a Bear! Yeah, you can hug them now. :)
- New content: Treasure Maps and Lost Lore! It is now possible to find rare bits of "treasure maps" and "lost lore". Once you've found all the pieces, you can assemble them for an especially large rewards!
- New content: more music! We've added two new, original songs to the game's soundtrack.
- New feature: Stone Skipping! Every day, a limited number of mysterious, open-mouthed clamshells will reveal themselves beyond the shore. Find yourself a nice, flat skipping stone, toss it across the water into the clam, and rewards await you! Amazingly, these clams are as appreciative of a skillful, many-skip stone toss as we humans, and will more generously reward scouts who manage to sneak in a few extra skips before hitting their target.
- New event NPC: Darla O'Hare! Darla, like Pandam, will be gracing Cozy Grove with her presence one day every week (Saturdays.) Darla is willing to sell you second hand items from her rather extensive clothing collection. This includes, but is not limited to, *wigs*, which are effectively hairstyles that you can keep forever in your closet. And if you let her, Darla will challenge you to dress up in a specific outfit for her; completing Darla's challenge will result in her awarding you with a unique clothing item that is not available anywhere else in the game.
- New feature: animal naming! No longer will your dear deer "Squishy-Poo" run around nameless and forelorn.
- New content: more "decoy" item sets! We've had the ability to make you search for a specific item from a set of similar-looking items for a while now, but we haven't made much use of it. In the Summer Update, we've added several new sets of decoy items to various quests.
- New feature: shell model collecting! For those of you who have unlocked a particular shell-loving bear, you can now take your shells to her and convert them into "shell models." These models look identical to the originals – they're just larger – and you can use them to decorate the island as you see fit.
Other very notable changes include:
- Stability improvements for older iOS devices
- Allison's bakery only requires 5 minutes to prepare food instead of 60;
- Heartbroken imp pairs should spawn more reliably;
- We've added new salad recipies;
- Fruit trees produce more roasted fruit while berry bushes produce somewhat less (but still do it much faster);
- Kit will pay generously for berry bushes, if you want to trade in some; and
- Items that are auto-dropped will bounce, making them easier to see.

Amazing game with a simple flaw
I love this game and it’s concept but I’m getting endlessly frustrated by two things: trying to select an object like an animal or a fruit tree, and the inventory functions. Constantly while scrolling in the Put Stuff in Storage menu, or while just looking through my backpack, it will exit me from the log of stuff because I accidentally touch the background. This also is an issue with when you are trying to craft multiple of an item, you have to individually tap how many of an item you want. I have almost 2000 of the basic gems, so when trying to craft an upgraded gem the first option it gives me is to craft almost 400 of the semi-precious gem. I have tried and given up tapping all the way back to the 100 I want to craft. It’s ridiculous that the most frustrating thing in this game is something that should be a simple mechanic. Make it so that you type in the number you want to craft, or can hold press the arrow for how many you want to craft. On menus where you scroll, make it so that you have to touch an X to leave the menu. It’s so sad that the most irritating thing in this game isn’t the resource searches, but just using your inventory.
Leeza Fedosova,
Limited play time
UPDATE:
Still getting discouraged with this game. I am in need of a tea egg which consists of 1 boiled egg. Only problem: I need 12 regular eggs to craft the boiled egg. Each day I’m able to purchase only 1 egg from the store. So to get just ONE item for the tea egg recipe, I need to play 12 days to get these stupid eggs. I’m also unable to feed my birds for the happy bird essence because they require pretty advanced food. And guess what? Those also need eggs! I really like this game and it brings me joy to play it everyday even though I’m not a fan of “come back tomorrow!” games. But like many other players have stated, I don’t know how much patience I have to continue. I’m still early in the game so it makes me wonder; when the stories advance even more, am I going to be stuck waiting WEEKS to craft a recipe or finish a task?

Great game, lots of potential. Soothing and interactive but like others have mentioned, you are limited on play time. I understand having certain things like the fruits and leave piles re spawn every few hours but not after 24 hours. If there were more side quests or activities to do in between the main story I think the game would be awesome. I get bored quickly (surely I’m not the only one) and I usually dislike these come back later games. I play it for a day or two and then I find no incentive to go back and play. Really hope the developers take this into consideration
hjdjejamsgd,
Simply Amazing! A few suggestions though...
I have been playing this for only two days and I am hooked. It is a amazing game but I have a few ideas that might make it better. 1 add a daily quest board. It wouldn’t be for spirt logs, but for coins. Right now it’s a bit hard to get coins, so this would help a lot to new players. 2 Can you make it so there is a interior to the tent? Players could customize it, and it wouldn’t interfere with the story in any way. This may be already added as I am just two days in and haven’t upgraded my tent yet, but I am writing this just in case. 3 Can you make a button so pets follow you? I know lots of players get attached to in game pets, so this would just be another way to interact with them. 4 multiplayer. It might be hard to add, but with multiplayer then more people would buy the game in order to play with their friends. It would be a cool feature for us and you guys would make some more profit! A win win! Either way these are my ideas to make the game better. I personally think this game is great without these features, but with these the game might be a little better. Even if you twist them a little I still think it would turn out great!

Great but infuriatingly flawed
I love this game, but there’s a reason it does not get 5 stars. If it weren’t for the ability to wirelessly connect my ps4 controller to my iPad then I would be completely unable to play. 10 minutes into the game every single time without fail the navigational functions stop working. I’ll be dragging my finger along to move my character when all of a sudden like clockwork, the character becomes unable to move anywhere but to the right. I have to literally exit out of the game to reset it. But then 10 min later it happens again. The first time I played this I rage quit because it was infuriating. I only started playing again because I found out I could connect a controller. How can the most basic and important function - MOVING - be so screwed up. This doesn’t occur with the ps4 controller, but as I do not always have the controller with me when I’m out and about, this is extremely infuriating. Please fix this. It’s a a major problem. I also seem to be unable to use my iPencil with this game as well. I think it would help with ease of play too if that were made compatable.
ProfessionalArtNerd,
Fun, lovely game, with room to grow. (and grow)
I like this game. It’s played over real time days. So I can play for an hour and then put it down and wait until the next day, which allows me to still be employed. Because if this were not true I would never ever stop playing. It’s clear that the developers put a ton of work into this thing. There must be at least 8-10 thousand decorations to find, build, or buy. The plot is interesting and different from other games I’ve played. This game might not be for everyone, especially if you get impatient and want to encounter something new in the gameplay for hours and hours a day. I think it’s worth trying.

When I first started playing the day it came out I encountered some bugs and annoyances. Over the last month the developer has put out updates and listened to the player feedback about balancing and fixed all the bugs that I have encountered, plus have made quality of life improvements. The developers also seem committed to keep adding content over the next few months and years.

P.S. The community of players on the discord is pretty cool too. :)

Automation
This a message for The developers. I really love this game it beautiful, relaxing, and amazing, but there is something missing and that is in my opinion is automation. I think that having to do everything on my own is kind of boring especially fishing, I don’t like how I have to spend 30 min to an hour just catching fish I would really love to have the choice to craft some kind of trap or big net where I can just set it up and let it do the work for me. The crafting aspect of this game is everything so you might as well add some more options like crafting traps not just for fish but also for insects, and don’t take me wrong I like the idea of running around trying to catch insects but I think we should have the choice to either craft trap for them or just catch them ourselves. Also plus feature would be voice over for the bears that would be amazing it would make the experience that much better, and as you can tell I am lazy so most of the time I don’t even read what they are saying and just skip but if there was voice over I would listen to and enjoy even more. Thank you guys!
Mintkit1,
A few bugs and suggestions
Overall I really enjoy the game. I’m twelve days in and completely hooked! However I’ve encountered a few bugs. The top bug I’ve noticed is that on at least three occasions I’ve received no reward after giving Captain Snout collection items. This happened with the pickled egg, the chocolate pie, and either the sauerkraut or pickled veggies. If there is a way to retroactively receive those rewards I would greatly appreciate it.
As for suggestions, my top suggestion regards the stackability of objects. The quartz gemstones can be stacked a lot - my max so far is 230 in one slot. It would be nice if other materials could also be stacked in this way. This would clear up space in storage and the backpack, especially for items that can only be stacked to 10 max (like the various greens). It would also be nice if we could upgrade our backpack in addition to our storage. Easier carrying for items you need on hand. Lastly it would be nice if trees could be harvested every day instead of every other day. This is especially true for the nut trees since so many baked goods and spirit animals need roasted nut flour.
Pi_Lover,
Animal Crossing Ripoff
This game is a straight ripoff of Animal Crossing. Sounds, style, gameplay... everything. I guess the storyline is kind of different, but not really in any meaningful way.
The controls are garbage. While selecting things in your inventory, sometimes you’ll randomly just start running off, closing your inventory and discarding anything you’ve been doing. You can’t really place things precisely enough to decorate at all. When you try to move to a location near another object, 90% of the time you run over to the object and it opens a dialogue box that takes up half of the screen. You can’t ever select the object you really want to because something next to it is always in the way.
Why do developers insist on requiring hours and hours of fishing as a way to “extend gameplay”? Making me sit and wait for a fish to swim back and forth halfway across the screen 4 times doesn’t add value or make the experience more enjoyable. It’s annoying and boring.
Whose idea was it to prioritize the in-game music over something a person actually wants to listen to? Maybe if I could listen to an audiobook instead of your repetitive soundtrack over and over I wouldn’t feel like I was wasting my life away trying to catch a billion fish to complete the collection.
PhoenixGirl99,
Broken save file
Honestly, I would give this game a higher rating, if it didn’t have so many issues. If you do choose to play, be aware that you could lose all of your progress and hard work at any point. It’s a slow game and you only have a limited amount of things you can do per day - but I enjoyed that for the most part. I could look forward to unwinding and having particular tasks to complete each day. The game was pretty buggy for me (crashing multiple times per day), but I just brushed that off and kept playing. I put in 1-2 hours per day for 42 days when the save file finally broke. It crashed again, as per usual, and I tried to open it up and start again to no avail. I couldn’t access my save file. I tried everything I could think of (restarting my device, uninstalling/reinstalling, etc.) and it never worked. I messaged in the Discord Group and emailed with Cozy Grove support and no one knew what was going on. Everyone recommended starting a new save file, however, the game has little to no replay value since the story progression is exactly the same and very slow. I have a few friends who have played the game and they have experienced plenty of bugs too. With the state the game is in currently, I wouldn’t recommend it.
Delgottismom,
At the beginning game is fabulous
I am now on day 111 of this game. I have thoroughly enjoyed playing this. It is one that I can play, put down, and pick up to enjoy later. Love the tasks, love the unique story. And now comes the “but”. I was approaching, what it seemed by tasks completed, the last 1/3 or 1/4 of the game and it began shutting down on me mid play. It started shutting down more and more often each time I played, so I checked to see if my tablet needed updating. I also checked to see if the game needed updating and saw some “additions” were added to the play. That’s great, but now I barely get to begin the tasks and it crashes immediately. To add to this immense frustration is the length of time it takes to reload the game. What should be a 1/2 hour span of play time has begun to take an hour or much more if I want to try to complete the tasks in one sitting. All because of multiple shut downs and reloading each and every time. And sometimes I need to redo the tasks I had just completed because the crash occurred before saving my play. A really fun game has become a frustrating experience each time I attempt to play. In the beginning I would have given it 5 stars. Now, if I could give a negative score I would. FIX THE CRASHING PROBLEM.
