Version history

2.1.1
2021-11-04
Cytoid 2.1 is now released!

After a long year of silence, we are excited to bring you a new Cytoid update!

◆ New event: Edge of Consciousness

We collaborated with illustrator 抑制意识 to bring her original characters and their stories to Cytoid. This event presents 10 songs of various genres, including a few from last year's Cytoid Open Submission, 3 new characters and 9 event-exclusive badges.

◆ New system: Character EXP

We know Cytoid is your favorite RPG game, so you can now level up your characters! The EXP you get is proportional to the difficulty of the chart as well as your performance. But you may wonder, why? Well...

◆ New system: Character awakening

Some characters now have an awaken form (or elite form, whatever you want to call it) which can be unlocked when they reach a certain level. In Cytoid 2.1, four characters can be awakened: Shiro, Kuro, Threose and Hancho. You can check out the specific requirements in the character selection menu!

◆ New feature: Event progress tracker

Finally! You can now track your progress on the events by tapping on the "View Objectives" button on the event selection screen. It's that simple.

◆ New feature: Batch downloading/deleting levels

Another long-awaited feature. Long press on level cards to enter the multi-selection mode. Then you can easily download or delete levels at once!

Boba squiddo,
A worthwhile game
I heard of this a while ago, but didn’t get around to getting it til now. I wish I had installed it earlier! I love it so much. The game is aesthetically pleasing, overall, the music is very good, and you can find beat maps for many songs in the community tab. Even if you can’t find one for a song you like, you can make your own!
The characters in it are well designed, and it’s super fun to play.
Coming from someone who plays many rhythm games, the timing in this game is very good on the tutorial and official levels, and even in most of the community ones.
Thanks to the developer for making this game

I like how this game works, it’s the most different rhythm game I’ve played. Only one issue. Not sure if it’s just my device or if this is a game issue, but most the time the notes do not match the songs beat and/or rhythm. The Kaede character in training advises you play while listening, but whenever I hit right on the beat the taps were noted as late. I would consider the fact that its just me with horrible rhythm and timing, but I’m struggling to settle on that thought being a musican, disc jockey and a big fan of rhythm games. Setting the “fast” and “slow” mods depending on the song has helped, though. It hasn’t completely ruined the game for me. The scanner playstyle has been a challenge since its new to me, which makes the game more fun, and makes full combos even more exciting.
Maddox Vass,
Good but not great
Cytus 2 is probably my favorite game to play on my phone. The reason I like it is because the tap registration is great L. I was hoping for this to be the exact same or at least very similar. But no the tap reg is some of the worse in any rhythm game app. Since this is free it’s fine but if it costed any money at all just go with cytus 2 plus it’s only 2 dollars (not including dlc characters). Get this if you really and I mean really wanna play custom songs because the community is so small and that half the maps on here are straight up impossible. Make a system where the creator has to beat the map to upload it just like super Mario maker 2. And don’t get me started on how bad it is if I don’t know if hit a note or not. Do it like Paul how it says “Perfect” or “Awesome”.
Derek271274,
Great, but not the best
I have played cytoid for a year now. It’s a fun game, and I generally like cytoid a lot. The downfall? I played it on my sibling’s device. I have tried to play it on my iPad, but it seems that once I start and complete the tutorial, it kicks me off, making me restart the tutorial once I get back on. I do have to admit, I have an old iPad mini which is probably the reason why. I also tried it on a iPhone 6+, the screen stays black. If I leave and get back on without removing it from my background, it shows an error at the bottom, but it doesn’t tell me what’s happening.

Other than that, great game! It’s a nice rhythm game if you don’t experience what I get-
R.ü.n.a,
Numbers on circles
First of all cytoid is an amazing game worth amazing mechanics and songs but I have experienced an issue. I have had this issue for quite a while now but it is that numbers appear on my circle things that I click. The numbers tell me how many total notes there are which is great to see if I missed a combo but comparing to my friends screen I can see that the plain circles look way better when playing. Can you please fix this since I don’t like the numbers on my notes. Thank you
569832Bobbycat,
It’s okay but the tap controls are really bumming me out.
First off I’ll starts off with what I like about the game. I love how there’s a variety of cool songs and how the levels can get really hard. I love a challenge, but the thing is, when I tap it it doesn’t go away till a couple seconds later. This ready throws me off when I’m playing. It makes it more difficult, and not in a fun way. The other thing is I can’t tell when if I tapped it or not it. I would really like that part fixed. A little alert if you missed it, did a good, or a perfect. The only reason I kept the app is because the levels can be difficult, but with the tapping being wonky, can’t tell if I clicked it or not, it’s making me question if this game is really worth it.
DaffyDabber,
Great! But it feels off for me
Great idea. Ideal choice if you wanna play Cytus II but don’t have the money. Everything is good but I just have a few problems .I feel no satisfaction when I click on a note or press or when I drag or swipe. It feels bland. It’s not because of the sound but because the design of the notes. You don’t need to do it yourself, you can allow the community to add their own custom notes or something if possible. Also, I find not knowing if a note had been hit or not annoying so if you could you add a perfect or good when you hit a note instead of just late or early that’d be great! Overall, it’s pretty fun and challenging
photohio,
Cytus is to easy now
Played this game for a while, got to rt 4.6 or something then lost my account, now at 8.7 rt so im a bit under ranked. Anyways i love this game i started about a year ago and fell in love with it and rhythm games as whole, so when cytus 2 became free, i imeeaditly started to play it, i had heard that cytoid had stricter timing windows but it took me playing cytus to see just how much more leaneant the timing windows are, so now its just a grind to get to freedom dive. See you in 3 years when i finally stop being under ranked and beat tonykrza
ImaBirdLolz,
Nice! Some suggestions
This is a very nice game, and the amount of beatmaps are great. I do feel like several things could be changed though, a combo counter would be very much appreciated. I also feel like the window for getting perfect notes is too narrow, I've never played a rythm game that requires you to be on the milesecond. One last suggestion, adding skins or a way for people to upload skins would be great, because while the simplicity is nice, it makes it too hard to get a perfect note. Overall very fun and good, but could use some adjustments
qazwsg,
Good but small details
This game is good. It’s easy to learn with training mode and you can learn to get better but I’d like to say that the window is too small for me to get perfects. I’d say that cytus II is easy while Cytoid seems quite a bit strict. Also (I don’t know if this is just me or not or if I’m doing it wrong) the flick notes aren’t registering for me; sometimes they miss, sometimes they don’t. It confuses me sometimes because I do the same thing for all the notes but some of them (most of them) are wrong. Other than those things it’s a pretty good game that I would recommend.
