Description

The idea behind this application is that it will help you track and manage your Vitamin D.

This new version integrates with the Apple Health app to make seamless data exchange possible in the following ways:

* on setup, profile information is fetched from the Health App if the user allows it
* the user's weight (a factor in D generation) is fetched on an ongoing basis, making it unnecessary to update it
* the app will write vitamin D doses, including session information into the Health app

You setup basic information one time, like your height and weight and skin type and then any time you are outside, during the prescribed hours (and parts of the year), you can have it compute the amount of D you are getting in a stopwatch interface. It will also track how long you can stay out and warn you when the time is up.

The application will notify you with the next opportunity to generate vitamin D.

Each day, you can see forecasts based on your location, and you can also see the solar position, your generated vitamin D vs. target etc.

In the Pro version, you can see your exposures' history and you will be able to schedule future events for next exposures.

RLNfirst,
Unique outstanding design app!
I would like to take a moment to thank the Developer,or Developers for such a great unique 5 star app. This app helps protect you and myself and Family from Getting to much harmful Sun Rays that could lead to Sunburn and yes even Cancer. The Developer has a unique special way of giving us save Data that is almost like a story! Ever have one of those moments where it is hard to put into words how nice something is? Well this app is trust me. You can feel by just using this app how much love the Developer and hard work into the Design of His app for you and myself and family to use! I truly Thank the Developer for putting this app out for all of us to use! I hope if you read this you will Download the app and give it a try! Well time for my moment to move on so they say. Too the Developers I take my Hat off to you and leave saying ( Thanks )
Weissberg,
Incredible!
This app is incredible: The utilization of BMI in the calculation of ng/ml is necessary; but so often overlooked in applications. This app has countless features—the addition of supplements is genious—and I could go on about this app being at the pinnacle of sun health, but I would like to address one issue. I, like most, am on a schedule—typically having 15 - 20 minutes around lunch to get sun—but find myself without the constraint of time on the weekends. For that reason, I typically spend a greater amount of time in the sun on Saturday: The app does not allow me to log more than ten minutes per side; although I spend around 30 minutes, and am unable to accurately log sun exposure. The app stipulates a maximum amount of time, but rather should suggest a maximum amount of time. If the app were to allow for additional time above the maximum limit, that would make it exceptional.
world-shaker,
A lot of problems here
UPDATE: Don’t bother reaching out to the developer. When I made them aware of the issue on Twitter, with a supporting video/screencast of the issues below, they were rude and dismissive. I’m disappointed they couldn’t be bothered to take these issues seriously, and that they’d pass the blame on to me despite video evidence that their app has two serious bugs that disrupt a user’s ability to use it at even a basic level.
__________________________

First, it’s defaulting my location to Saudi Arabia, though I’m in North Carolina. When I try to add my location, the map feature fails to find an address. Even when I manually enter my specific city, state, and country, it insists I enter the specific latitude and longitude of my location, which is incredibly bizarre. Never has an app asked me to manually enter my latitude and longitude. When I try to cancel the process of adding a new location, the app won’t allow me to return to its home screen. I had to force quit the app and reopen it to do so. I’m not sure how functional this app will be if I can’t even enter my proper location, and it’s suggesting sun times for a country halfway around the world.
pameliasue,
A useful app that could use some polish.
I like this app and the ability to track my vit D. I live in the Pacific Northwest where supplementation is a must. I paid for the in-app upgrade and having the extra information is helpful but I’m not sure it was worth it. One thing I would like to see is improved background images and the ability to choose my own and I believe adding them as part of the paid upgrade package feature would be reasonable. In fact, I suspect your app would sell more upgrades if the upgrade included some personalized options. The current blue sky with clouds is ugly. It is all stretched out and distorted on my screen. I have the beautiful new iPhone XS Max and let’s face it, people prefer visually appealing apps. If you’re not willing to supply more options then allowing the user to upload their own background image would be appreciated.
Aside from the amateurish unfinished look, this app is great. With improved visual options/look included with the paid upgrade this app would be 5 star.
RayBiondolino,
Well it used to work…
I originally got this app because my doctor recommended it so I could track my vitamin D levels. After using the app for a few months I realized it had a few shortcomings but I was OK with that because it was convenient and seemed to do a good job of calculating my D absorption levels based on sun exposure, etc. However, I’ve tried to use this app now for the last three weeks and it just doesn’t work anymore. I can’t change my default home location, it keeps defaulting to somewhere in Egypt, I live in the United States. No matter what I change in the settings, it defaults back to some other number or setting. Half of the screens I click into don’t have a back button or a way to get back to the home screen. And even though I click on “start a new sun session”, I can see the data that is entered in the fields by default, but there’s no way to say “OK”, or “Start”, or anything other than exit the app and go back in. I’ve deleted the app, and re-downloaded it at least five or six times now, rebooted my phone etc., but nothing works anymore.
motorsportsaregood,
Excellent & helpful
An excellent little app that has made a world of difference for me in understanding my Vitamin D levels and sunlight exposure. Being able to quantify the amount of Vitamin D I’m getting and better understanding the movements of the sun through the sky has made a big material difference in my life. The pro version is well worth it for the ability to track ones levels.

One thing that could be improved upon is a better ability to display and review ones levels over previous days. One can see it in the aggregate, but can’t go back and see totals for individual days. Also, it took me months to figure out what the 21d and 21d-90d numbers meant, and ultimately they could be displayed more descriptively or intuitively.

Great app and very grateful. Thank you!
Dr. McC,
Initial impression
My first impression of this app is that it is on the right track. Here are a couple of suggestions, along with a comment on the video and the study.

1. Please consider adding a back button for those of us with quick fingers. Specific example: “Do you know your Vitamin D level?” I accidentally hit the yes button, and could not go back. I was able to close the app & reopen without disruption, but I wasn’t sure that would be the outcome.

2. Sun exposure option: A little more information about considerations for answering this would be helpful, along with a seasonality option. I think Vitamin D can be stored for up to 2 months. That said, I don’t get the same exposure in the winter that I get in the summer. Will this app provide opportunity to adjust exposure later?

Video comment: I’m not sure if there is supposed to be sound on this video, but I didn’t hear any. The slides had a lot of writing, making it necessary to jump back and pause the video to read it. Without sound, much of it seemed up to the viewer’s interpretation. I got the gist, but skipped the last minute. Overall, the video was not useful.

Study comment: Reviewing the option for the 5-year study, I applaud your attempt to get users to pay for their own lab tests, but I am not willing to pay that much for lab tests so that the researchers can publish results and reap the rewards. Perhaps others are.
Jikoniau,
Good idea, but doesn’t work for me
App is not intuitive for how to do certain things. Thought I couldn’t add back entires but you can, the date acts like a scroll field but isn’t. You select it and it opens a calendar to select the day. Some fields end up greyed out making it seem like you can’t select it, but you can.

It’d be nice if you could setup automatic sun exposures. Most days I’m going to spend at least 10minutes outside. If it could automatically add that I’d find this app much more useful. As is it is kinda cool but not very useful.

Edit: discovered that editing past entries doesn’t work well. There are certain fields that can’t be edited which makes it impossible to fix many entry errors. I also don’t like how adding entries assumes you are just lying in the sun. I hardly ever am going to use the “turn over” setting that it has for every new entry.
HC Stevens,
This is one of the best health apps I’ve ever used.
I’ve been using D Minder for three years. I love how much control and how many options I have to get results. It also teaches how to be sun savvy as I use it. I have never used an in-app purchase because there are so many options available I haven’t needed to. I also have it on my Apple Watch so I control D Minder from my watch. I told my daily about this all and they love it too. There is so much more, alerts for when the sun is at the angle I want, skin type, cloud layer, time of day, duration of, amount of exposure, plus a calculation of vit D from what I eat, how much D3 intake, how long I use a Sperti lamp (so cool that you can add this). Still love it after three years.
Sithmaith ,
Doesn’t work very well
The Apple Watch screenshots are bogus. The app is basically unusable from the watch now. It used to vibrate when it was time to turn over and now it doesn’t. The screen has to remain unlocked or you won’t get the notification on the phone to turn over when you’re halfway through your timed session. Everything works as if it’s assuming that you’re going to use the amount of vitamin D to set the length of your session, and who does that really? I think most people are going for a time.

That being said, the notifications used to work much better. It used to be a great app, and now it’s just meh. I really wished the watch worked the way it says. Then I wouldn’t have to take my phone out with me.
