Bubbyskeletano,
Great
Great app, a necessary part of the ear training regimen for anyone looking to improve. Love the melodic dictation it's why I wanted more than Tenuto which only has intervals. Couple things for the devs: the app sometimes plays a tone for way longer than intended. Happens frequently to me and it's an annoying glitch. The melodic dictation requires you to input the notes on a keyboard which requires a proficiency not all musicians have myself included. Optimally there would be options for intervalic input eg. up p4 down m3 as well as a guitar fretboard if the touch screen doesn't make it too difficult. Another option should be entering the notes directly eg. A# C F. It's obviously good to know your way around a keyboard but if I'm training my ears I want my brain power to focus only on that.
Another is that the bass notes are too loud in the chord identification. Maybe there's an option to change this if not please add one, here Tenuto has you beat.
This is a fantastic app that you could definitely justify charging for I'd gladly fork over money for this. I only gripe because it's fantastic and needs a few little touches to be perfect. Highly recommend to anyone
Qndrez,
Good for training, but very annoying
This app has a lot of great exercises, but it’s very annoying. Its constantly asking me to login, and after I finally capitulated and made an account I had no interest in, now its spamming me to invite my friends. Why, I really must wonder, does it care who I invite. I’m forced to conclude that its harvesting email addresses to sell. This must be the price of “free”. I would rather pay $5 then be nagged as much as this app nags.

Aside from that, it’s good at what it does. My only complaint is that the criteria for graduating a goal is too easy. Especially for interval identification. You only need to get 9 of 10 right to complete a goal, and it’s pretty easy to get there if you get lucky, even without having mastered the intervals being tested. In fact, the tests get probabilistically easier as you go, not harder. Simple example: you start the first test knowing nothing. Then you master Unison vs Major Third, now you’re on to the next test which add Perfect Fifth. It’s going to ask a mix of questions, some of which include material you’ve already mastered, so it’s not even testing the newest material. Fast forward a few more tests and now it’s asking you about 5 intervals and you already know 4 of them. In 10 questions, you have a 10% chance of never even getting tested on the new interval. Compare that to the start when you knew nothing, then every question was a relevant test.
ThePapercutNinja,
Crazy that it’s free
These are simple exercises in simple progressions, yet the app is so incredibly helpful I am astounded that they aren’t charging money for it. It starts off extremely easy, so you have to be patient in the beginning if you’ve played an instrument before, but within the first half hour it picks up a bit. I have never done much ear training before despite playing a couple instruments, and the medium-level exercises are challenging for me. I’ve been trying to learn songs by ear for the first time, and this app is a tremendous help. And after completing the “goals” which progress incrementally, there is a practice section to review as often as needed.
assclownsagain,
Wellllll...
It’s a great app, for what it is, has lots to offer over other apps. Yet. The piano and guitar sound samples are just so horrible. They sound like they came from a RadioShack kids keyboard, literally.

I love they have chord precession quizzes and all that but you’re almost tone deaf and just regular deaf after just a few iterations of hearing those chords played together. The whine and screech is ridiculous. If you guys would get better sounds this would be a 5 star app hands down.
It is rather silly this app is all about sound and the sound is your biggest issue- having not even mention that the sound cuts out a lot and nots get stuck and ring for a long annoying time every once in a while. I bet if you upgrade your stuff and fix these sound issues- you’ll get so many more downloads from recommendations. Almost sure you’d be number 1 in this field.
SuperNolanMan,
This Is A Necessity
If there is an “industry secret” to reaching that next level in musicianship or writing, it is Ear Training.

This has a wide variety of drills that cover every major facet of ear training. I picked a higher level to start out, so I don’t know what it offers for beginners in terms of understanding what exactly is going on if you are completely new to things like intervals. If it’s the same as the higher experience options, that could be a barrier to entry for beginner musicians.

That aside, this has been perfect so far and I have yet to run into any sort of paywalls or true barriers. This is a great resource for new musicians or those wanting to stay sharp. Love this.
Seb Chamaca,
How is this app even real?
Obligatory “I’ve never written a review for an app before”, but I sincerely believe that the creators of this app deserve a Grammy for their contributions to musicians. This little app is completely free and has all the tools necessary to sharpen your music skills, from beginner to advanced, in a very inviting, well paced format that is ideal for busy people to get in some daily ear training. It’s simple, easy to use, not invasive and just plain fun to use.

I've been an audio engineer and musician for years, but for the first time I feel like I’m getting a solid hold of harmony, scales, and general music understanding. Thank you for making this app.
cbruns96,
Phenomenal app
I am so impressed with this app. I spend a few minutes each day working on interval identification with this app and it is incredible how effective the app is.
Theres one suggestion that I’d make, though.. there is a harmonic interval identification “goal”, but there isn’t the option to practice harmonic intervals on the “practice” tab. Also, after you complete the “goal”, you can’t go back and do it again which leaves you without the option to practice harmonic intervals at a level that is adjustable to your skill.
Overall though, the app is incredible!
K. Kriebel,
Pretty good
The app is ok, but it’s not quite professional level. It’s a good app for high school kids working on AP Music Theory, and that’s about it. Maybe some basic guitar stuff too. It’s just not the most user friendly, there’s a little bit of a learning curve with all the settings for the practice modes. However, once you understand how the app works, it actually is pretty useful for harmonic interval training. The melodic and rhythmic dictations are a bit broken, as they’re either too simple or a more complicated one causes everything to get smushed on my screen. Overall, I’d give it a 7/10.

Good but could be better!
This app is good and I use it daily. My main complaint is with the quality of the sounds used. I know this is a free app but I’d rather they charge me for it and update the quality of the instruments they use.

Sometimes notes that they have recorded are different durations so ear training with chords is sometimes challenging as some notes cut out quickly while others keep ringing. The issue with quality becomes more apparent the farther you get from “two-line C”

There’s also instances during interval identification where they will play 1 note so you will click “unison” as that would be the correct answer. It will comeback incorrect and the playback to hear the answer plays two notes the root and an octave. I have discovered that anytime I hear unison if I click replay a few times it will eventually play the octave note - if no octave occurs then is in fact unison and not a bug.

I do really like this app and think it is a fantastic tool. But I would absolutely love to see/hear improvements even if that means paying.
Kylezo,
Barbones with no instruction
This is just an app that plays scales and intervals without actually telling you what is what and then gives you multiple choices. There's exactly zero instruction. Halfway through the modes unit, I had to stop. Once I got to locrian which is the 7th it adds, and didn't describe any of the last 6 so you have no idea what to listen for, I just stopped because you're just brute force guessing for 100 questions until you manage to get 9/10 in a row and it adds a new mystery scale. You're just supposed to guess. Like how is this considered helpful? Just add new things without even explaining them at all?
