Rob7cc,
UI has these specific bugs
1. Unable to attach photos in messages to my doctor due to a bug: when I click the paper clip icon, I am asked to "Take Photo" or "Choose from Library" -- both options simply result in no action nor response from the UI, thus it is currently impossible to attach photos until this bug is fixed.

2. When composing a message, the "Send" and "Cancel" buttons must have a very tiny active click area because it is very difficult to accurately click these to make them fire the clicked event. These buttons need to be much larger.

3. Related to (1) above: the app does not support attaching photos to reply messages within a thread -- you can attach only to the first message (and of course, it's impossible to attach photos in the current state of this app as noted in (1) above)
CJ’s MacBk,
App lacks fuctionality for patients
It is a very straightforward app. But as pointed out in other reviews, every medical practice has it’s own patient portal and none of them interact with the other. In order for doctor’s to truly converse or exchange notes or health summary on a patient is for all of the portals to exchange information on the patient, provided the patient give permission for the portals to talk to each other. I’m not sure what role HIPPA plays in all of this; but it seems to me, if the patient gives each doctor permission, it should work out ok. This would then truely be doctor’s coming together as a team for the benefit of the patient. I personally believe that All specialized doctors should at least be reporting to a patient’s primary care doctor, so that doctor has a whole picture of what’s going on with their patient. I would think it would be difficult for a primary care doctor to properly treat a patient without all of the information on that patient’s health from all of the specialist the patient has seen.
AndrésJP,
My intention isn’t to disparage but the app crashes almost instantaneously upon opening...
I’ve used this app before and when functioning properly it’s an excellent application and reasonably accessible one at that. However, I have an IPhone XR with, ostensibly, the most current operating system and it seems as though the app is unsupported on my phone. To paint a picture: I click on the app, one second passes, and the app crashes. I haven’t any such issues with every other application on my phone, leading me to believe the issue lies within this app rather than my phone. I am hopeful that the developer will be able to remedy this soon and look forward to updating my review to to one extolling the true value of the application.

Nice app; needs work
I love the convenience of the app; the ease of communication with my doctor is awesome.

However:
1. The app seems to have a limit on the message size. My big complaint here: it gives you a generic failed to send error but doesn’t tell you why. If I break up my message into several chunks, it goes through. I expect that there is a hidden limit on the message size. Assuming that’s true, I need that limit greatly expanded, and a display of characters used vs available.
2. Does not support FaceID and doesn’t support any other authentication. I’d like to see it support FaceID and a third party 2-factor authenticator like Authy, Google, or Microsoft.
3. Is like to see a reply option to emails
4. I’d like to be able to choose which person I am responding to. My only choice is my primary doctor - but I see a different doctor in the office and I can’t reach out to get directly. I also can’t reach out to the front office staff - this means I have to call in or go through my doctor to talk to them — that’s a waste of her time & my time.
5. I’d like to see that attachments kept in a repository where I could go find them easily to reread.
mbinkley,
Need updated more frequently
The app needs to be updated to take advantage of features in iOS. I shouldn’t have to enter my email and password every time to authenticate when technologies such as Face ID and Touch ID exist. As it stands today, I have to hide the word suggestions on my keyboard when typing messages as they obscure the reply field. Word suggestions are not new, neither is Face/Touch ID. The time put forth developing the patent interface to this EMR platform needs to be increased as there is at most four updates a year but usually only “bug fixes”. If memory serves correctly, it took over a year to have the app take advantage of the larger screen on the newer iPhones.

Lots of room for improvement
1. Please add either face verification or the option to save your username/pw. So annoying to have to log in every time.
2. Booking page requires you to log in to the webpage through a browser. The point of using an app is to not have to use the browser.
3. It would be helpful if the Booking page in the app listed any upcoming appointments.
4. It would be helpful if there was a page for labs/results and a page for office visit summaries, rather than having to scroll through the inbox and try to find what you’re looking for.
Theatre traveler,
Poorly designed - app only allows access to one practice
Elation is trying to be a user-friendly and modern portal for correspondence between patients and our doctors. That’s great.

Unfortunately, the app has one astonishingly terrible limitation: you can’t be connected to more than one practices! That means if you have, say, two or three separate offices (ex: your pcp, your ob/gyn, your ENT doctor) that ALL use passport, the app will allow you access to one of those offices, but none of the others. There is no way to add another.

In the online portal, you can simply choose which medical group you are looking for and it will switch you to seeing communications from and with them. You can add as many as you want.

I’m astonished at this limitation. It seems uniquely stupid and like something they should have considered as soon as they created it, if they are trying to become a revolutionary communication tool for the medical industry as a whole. When I corresponded with Elation support, they said this is something they are aware of and plan to adjust eventually, but have no specific date or timeline for it.

Badly outdated
The app is very hard to use on iPhone 12. The developer has never updated the app for the new screen layout. It’s literally impossible to hit the “Send” button when messaging with your provider because it is squished high up on the screen next to the battery indicator. I resort to using my pinky trying to touch it and it takes me half a dozen attempt to send.

The other common gripe is lack of support for biometric authentication. The app never supported either Touch ID or Face ID. There’s no integration with password managers either making logging in a real chore.

My biggest complaint is the app not saving message drafts. I lost 20 minutes worth of typing when I switched away from the app to look something up. When I switched back to the app, it restarted and forced me to log in. The message draft was gone.

These issues are not that hard to fix!

Absolute JUNK
Has not been updated by the developer in over a year. The UI is horrendous. And the send button is right on top of the battery icon on all iPhone 14 and 14 Pro. I asked for support and they told me I was using larger text for accessibility and it would work. I’m not using larger text to start - worse than that they should be supporting accessibility, not disrespecting it!

If you are a medical practice, choose a different provider. If you are a patient, ask your provider to choose a different platform.

Needs work
It’s a fairly simple concept and app. A way to communicate with your physician and store medical files. My greatest frustration is when replying on an iPhone. When the keyboard opens it covers the area where you are typing and you cannot read what you have written. Seems like such a simple fix but I’ve been using it for months and still no fix. I always end up logging in from my laptop to communicate with my doctor. Given others apps I’ve used from hospital systems and health insurance companies this app needs work.
