Zishi Wu,
Excellent storytelling and strategy
If you are looking for a game with a combination of good story and strategic thinking, then Grim Tides is for you. There are multiple classes, stars, abilities, and items that influence your style of play, so the game is very much replayable. Admittedly I have only tried a mage build thus far and do not how to use physical attacker builds yet.

The game has no ads and lets you play the first 15 levels of the first dungeon for free. In my opinion, the value you get for paying for the full game afterwards is totally worth it.

I have suggestion to the developer: events that give permanent stat modifications have the word “permanent” in parentheses while events that give temporary modifications do not have the word “temporary”. With consumable items, the temporary status is implied but with events it is not. I think adding this hint could add some clarification.

I was also struck by the Mua-Ta runes storing memories of that culture that can be relived via touching the tunes. I think a cool idea would be to add extra gameplay where the user could be transported back in time to control the Mua-Ta and relive their fights. Kind of like a side quest to the story line. As an incentive, these battles could offer a higher item drop rate.
Sir. lane,
Nice RPG to waist some time
This game is easy to understand and enjoyable. The lore is intriguing without being overwhelming, you can outright skip the lore if you want to but it’s normally only a paragraph or two at a time. I play as a spell-caster and you can get really creative with the spell combinations, you can prioritize DPS or focus on buffs and debuffs. I appreciate getting to play the whole first chapter for free but it’s definitely worth buying the full edition. The only thing I would like is to learn more spells at a time. Right now I can only learn 3 spells at a time. I’m still a relatively low Lvl and maybe in the future I will be able to learn more at a time but if not it kinda stinks that I have to spend gold to forget a spell and then spend more gold to learn another without knowing if I will like that combo or not. All in all a really fun game and a good way to spend some extra time.
hdjdodheosgedu,
Amazing game
I love this game but I wish it had guns like grim quest. That is my one complaint. The difficulty scaling is perfect, the lore is interesting, and there is one or 2 funny Easter eggs. The story really conveys the message that up until you get the warden sigil removed you aren’t really in charge, that you are just a tool being used by someone else to achieve their goal. While it is impossible to make a perfect game this is pretty dam close. The full game isn’t free but the free section gives you everything you need to know about the gameplay. If I could rate over 5 stars I would.

Nice Rogue-like Grinder
Enjoyable RL, interesting theme and addition of the ship management adds a new dimension. Interface is better than first but still tedious, especially inventory and in-town. In-town I should be able to access and manage inventory and/or stash from within any city area related to items: merchant, character, blacksmith, crafting, etc. I should also be able to compare equipped items with merchant items without having to exit the merchant, open char screen then exit, open merchant, rinse and repeat. Very tedious. Same for bounties; why are bounties not managed from a single gui? You get bounties from tavern but can’t cash them in or track progress there, you manage them via Journal. Shouldn’t I have my journal with me while I’m in the tavern, that’s where my stash is, did I leave my journal outside?
sixwiseman,
A great improvement of the first game
I loved grim quest but after awhile it got stale. This one different items and has better be if it’s when you level up and buy things I honestly think this is one best games on the App Store if your trying to buy a game with an actual story and gameplay mechanics. The only thing I think would make it better if there was a way to have alternate paths, like be lawful or chaotic, and if you could work for different factions. I wouldn’t mind if this wasn’t added though since the game is great by itself.
the ultimate doge,
The first game, but better!
Grim Tides is really worth a try. It has hours of fun and immersive gameplay, an interesting story, fun and engaging combat mechanics, and a lot of character customization that lends the game a lot of replay ability. It is also an improvement on the first game, grim quest, in that the enemies and items have cool art and if anything the music is even better than in the original game. Lastly if you never played the first game, you definitely should do that before playing this one. Overall an amazing game definitely worth the 5 dollars. 😀
Daniel San_TM,
So much potential!!
Love this game and it’s worth buying the full game. Story driven but with random dungeon layouts with random encounters. Challenging yet simple with a variety of ways you want to make your character. Very well thought out and the dialog is detailed to where it matters if you read it. Definitely looking forward to updates and more quality of life, not that it needs much improvement, the game runs very well. The illustrations of different monsters and maps is also much appreciated for the extra effort in detail.
Mysticana777,
Great RPG Adventure, Exactly What I Didn’t Know I was Looking For
This game is perfect if you like text-based choose your own adventure entertainment. It’s the perfect mix of detailed and abstract, and lets you both “live” as well as to create, stories.

My only piece of actionable feedback to give would that more distributed/greater tiers of gear (more variety) would be fun, but I’m not sure how that could be set up without taking away from the games relatively straightforward UI/UX for gear and equipment.

Keep on keeping on, this game is a fantastic work of art!
Chicken nugget 6 pack,
Great text based game
I bought both of this developers games. Happy with both. This game is hard. This is a text based game, which I like. I think the developers has a big set of balls to develop an old-school game like this in this generation of players. This game will not just give wins, you have to grind and earn it. Thanks for having a big set of balls and making a game for old school players. I’m giving you 4 stars because I am old school and there can always be improvement. I’d like an option to camp while on quest. I don’t see that in either games. Am I missing that?
Stout ecs,
The game eventually costs $4
A bit sneaky, and the game gets stale fast.

Edit: since the developer responded, the only place a pay to play price tag is mentioned is under “in-app purchases”, which most would assume is microtransactions (which also exist). Even when you start the game, you are introduced to the cash store where the option to buy the full game is hidden from you.

Also, after some more hours I can conclude the game is not worth buying. The moment you progress past the paywall, the game just stops being interesting. Your progress becomes very slow and grindy, you’ve basically already experienced all gear and skill options the game has to offer, and you just fight different colors of the same enemies.

The paywall creates the illusion you’ve only seen the tip of the iceberg at the point you are forced to pay, but in reality you’ve experienced 90% of what the game has to offer and you are paying for the privilege to just repeat the same thing over and over and over again.
