Somefish254,
Wonderful puzzle game
Grimoire is a great incremental game with unfolding and puzzle mechanics. There is a reason why this game best looking and best playing incremental game of the year! All gameplay is free to try, although I recommend that you support the solo dev with a tip.

I’d like to give some definitions. Idle game: passive “numbers go up” activity, eg Melvor Idle. Incremental game: active “numbers get exponentially larger” game, eg Antimatter Dimensions. Unfolding game: active “secret gameplay unlocks, achievement hunting” game, eg CandyBox2. Grimoire is an unfolding puzzle game with the theme of an incremental. Prestige is outwardly used for increasing rune gain speed, but in practice is so you can guess the next power combo through trial and error. It really makes you feel like you are studying an arcane object with branching paths. I love how there is a hint of a storyline through the use of grimoire cards. It was a great brain teaser trying different card combinations to hit the next milestone. The game took me 45 days to complete. Yes there is a definite ending. The UI is stellar. This is a great addition to the genre and I look forward to future projects.

A Great Addition to my Game Folder
I’ve been having a blast with this one! By far the best thing about this game is the first item in the App Store description - non formulaic gameplay. I really enjoy the fact that as I’ve progressed I’ve needed different strategies and I had a lot of fun experimenting with different upgrade combinations to see which setups were ideal. At one point I was tapping a lot, at another point I was going full idle and at my current progress I think the best is some mix of idling then tapping then idling etc. I can’t put it down (except for the parts where I really should be idling)!

Oh and for ads/IAPs there’s nothing except for the option to watch ads for a small multiplier for a good while and an IAP to make it permanent. Pretty low key and unobtrusive; kudos to the developer. I can say the game is not balanced in a way that you need to have the multiplier to progress so that’s also nice, though the multiplier is nice to add a little boost especially early on.

Clean, Simple, and Engaging
A fairly light game but it’s a neat approach. I love the minimal UI but the game itself has some nice testing/problem solving with approach.

This game isn’t so much a clicker vs idle game as figuring out if you are at a point you should be taking a clicking approach or idle approach. What works best matures depending on how far you are. As you progress you may find that idling for a day or two on a different will be more useful than tapping while watching a show. Then as you prestige to be able to reach a new upgrade or path you may swing back more towards idle. It’s fun figuring out what approaches work well and when a previously useful approach finally delivers great value.

There is no pay to win and virtually no adds - there is an option to watch an ad for at 2.5x boost that lasts 4 hours - no pop ups every 90 seconds trying to get you to watch ads for resources or any of that crap. The paid option is a 1 time purchase of $5 for the permanent 2.5x. Modest, simple, straight forward. Overall I really enjoy this so far as a game that’s engaging but not distracting and is never shoving payment or ads in my face

Edit: I also dig the concept of the effort staying with the Grimoire and moving from person to person. It makes things like legacies and creations and such fit in well. I also love that legacies (achievements) provide genuinely impactful but not game breaking benefits, and are slowly discovered.
Thundermanseth,
What a great game
I have been having a blast playing this game. I love to play idle games like this when I’m laying in my bed listening to audiobooks, and this game tops all of those by a long shot! The story is intriguing, the rune art is great, but what I love most is the ads. I love that ads aren’t shoved down my throat every 30s I’m playing the game. Instead you are presented with a choice if you want to watch ads or not and you get a reward for watching them, it’s great! Why other developers don’t do this is baffling to me. It has completely changed how I view the ads. Instead of being filled with hatred and disdain every time an ad pops up I am actually excited to go watch a couple ads in a row and have a multiplier for the whole day! This is an amazing monetization method and as soon as I can I’ll be buying the ad free mode so I can give a lil extra to the amazing developer who made this game. You’re a rockstar!

Rewarding game
Definitely a top tier game in the App Store, not just as an idle game but as any game here. Gameplay feels very unique as many aspects of the game change based on what the player does (for example achievement hunting will give you permanent boosts in the game but take a bit of effort). The game is grindy if you wanna be less idle, but you can also play in a way more suited to being idle a lot. Personally, i spent 5 dollars on the only thing you can buy in the game which is a permanent 2.5 times boost. I decided it was worth it after putting about 10 hours into the game haha. The game is addicting with minimal yet appealing graphics. One of very few games that are not constantly throwing ads in your face. Also one of the only games that doesn't make your phone heat up like crazy. Props to the developers for making the only idle game I haven't gotten bored of after a day!
Billytrousers,
Amazing, satisfying, challenging
Great game. It has a wonderful mix of active and idle play at different stages of the game. Everything is explained well enough to allow you to play, but without bludgeoning you over the head with details and forced tutorials - when you unlock something new, it lets you explore it for yourself after giving a brief but fairly comprehensive explanation. Plenty of replay value since there’s a second “layer” of prestige reset.

One thing that I’d love to see in future updates, just to scratch my stats itch - a historical overview of previous resets. Not just your sum totals for current run/current prestige/all time, but a page that shows a summary of the last X retires and rewrites. That would allow you to track trends and performance of different builds - especially if the summary shows the Society build that you used for each run!
keker boi,
Innovative gameplay for its category
As a preface to this review I want to point out that I’ve never written a review for an app, ever. This game was the first app, period, to compel me to write about its features. With that said, I have two major praises for the game.
Firstly, the outstanding amount of consideration put into the comfort of the user’s experience. With the copious amount of for profit free apps on the market, this game is a gem that offers a comparatively perfect experience by only featuring one in-app purchase and leaving the entirety of the game content free.
Secondly, the seemingly simple yet masterful implementation of a story and buff system into a game genre about tapping. The story and buffs don’t feel very intrusive yet these systems intimately affect gameplay in a novel way.
Overall, the game achieves what you’d expect from a tapping game, if not a bit more, with a very pleasant and refreshing twist
DalphinBoi,
Best Idle Game
As someone who has played many, many idle/tapper games, this game captivated me. The graphics are simple yet pleasing; the gameplay is engaging strategically, mathematically, and skillfully; most importantly, the game has a very short download time and is able to run on decade-old devices like mine that can only run a select few games.
Multiple times, I had to adjust my strategy. The game has no reduction on offline idle production, yet provides special bonuses for both manual and idle production. Every time I thought I was near the end, a new decision, landmark, or entire functionality would present itself.
10/10, I would rate this best or second best idle game available. It's so good that I'm reinstalling for a second playthrough.
yelllow head,
This is one of the best incremental game I have played
This game makes your time feel well spent as you progress. I have played many incremental games that make you wait forever for like 1 upgrade. But this game is constantly moving and a second is never wasted. The story is very well written and makes logical sense. The paths allow for critical thinking to allow you to do insane combos. But what I really like is you’ll find a Indian combos of paths and then after upswing it a few times you will get a new upgrade that allows you to do better Insane combos. Overall this game is very rewarding and I would highly recommend it to any one
who likes strategy incremental games.
Librariandad,
Fantastic implementation of the genre
What makes Grimoire great (aside from no gacha mechanics, energy, or other monetization strategies) is how it implements a variety of interacting mechanics that you can combine to achieve different rates of progress at different stages in the game. As you unlock new spells, research, society stages, etc., different combinations may yield better rates of progression, so you can experiment and revise your tactics. Relic progressions require changing up your tactics in creative ways and provide actual benefits rather than just another achievement. And everything is wrapped in a clever and engaging theme that gives the game a story-like feel and transcends the underlying “numbers go up” core.
