Description

As Featured by iMore, track and analyze every aspect of your hockey!

HockeyTracker turns every Apple Watch into a sophisticated hockey tracking computer. Start HockeyTracker before a game and track your favorite performance stats, and afterwards, dive deep into your data.

HockeyTracker tracks just about any performance metric you can imagine, plus a few exclusive to HockeyTracker.

Key Features:

• Dedicated Game, Pick-up, Practice, Goalie, Dryland Training, Coach, Stick Time, Open Skate, Pond and Ref modes
• Automatic Shift Detection* (including shift length, calories burned, top speed, and heart rates from each shift)
* Recovered (fresh) Heart Rate Alert
* High Heart Rate Alert
* Live In-Game Stat Tracking
* Live In-Game summary of your last shift (duration, cals, distance, and avg speed)
• Game Scores
• Goals, Assists, and Plus-Minus Rating
• Calories Burned
• Distance Skated
• Heart Rates (including Max and Average Ice Time Heart Rates)
• Max and Average Skating Speed
• Ice time
• VO2 max**
• Heart Rate Recovery
• Maximum Capable Speed
• Hockey Fitness Level
• Skate Efficiency
* Effort Level
* Heart Rate Zone Analysis
• Longest, shortest and average shift times
• Historical graphs of all your metrics over time to see whether you're improving
• Shift Timer: set your desired shift time and get a haptic ping to tell you to get to the bench!
• Share your stats via text, email, Twitter, Facebook, Slack!
• Freshness Meter Complication so you know how prepared you are for your next session
• The notes section lets you keep track of how you played or describe goals, hits and penalties etc.
• Custom heart rate filtering algorithm that will filter out falsely high heart rate values.

HockeyTracker lets you record a full workout, from start to finish, without a phone.

*HockeyTracker uses a proprietary shift tracking algorithm that is able to detect whether a place is on the ice or on the bench.

**Note that in order to calculate VO2Max, HockeyTracker uses your resting heart rate (as is set by Apple during period of inactivity). Series 0 Apple Watches are not capable of resting heart rates therefore VO2Max cannot be calculated at this time on Series 0 Watches.

Notes:
• HockeyTracker requires an Apple Watch to collect the data it displays
• HockeyTrack integrates with the Health App on your iPhone to retrieve the data it displays. It will request permission to access the relevant data types associated with a workout.

Apple Watch Ultra Users this update is for you! You can now configure the Ultra's Action Button to automatically open HockeyTracker and start a game workout! You can configure this by going to the Apple Watch's Settings App then Action Button and selecting HockeyTracker.

Note: I will say in testing it doesn't always work consistently and seems a little buggy, but its a brand new feature in the AW, so I'm sure it will improve in future watchOS updates. When it does work its very cool!

Also a few other bug fixes and improvements.

Fixed an issue with both widgets. Also renamed the large widget to "30 Day Trends" which it always was (comparing your skates in the most recent 30 days to the previous 30 days) so calling it Monthly trends made it sound like it was comparing skates in this month to last month - which isn't what we want because then every month your stats would reset to 0.

Quick update just to address a few minor bugs where you might see zero's for certain metrics. If you were missing information from a previous workout for some reason if you go back now it should calculate.

A few other bug fixes and optimizations.

This update includes a redesign of the More tab which includes a new toggle to use a Custom Max Heart Rate. Up until now, HockeyTracker used your average max heart rate from your past 5 sessions to calculate Effort Level and your heart rate zones. Now, it will still use your average max as a default, however if you turn on the Use Custom Max Heart Rate switch and set a Custom Max, HockeyTracker will use this Custom Max instead.

Quick update to make it a little easier to contact me for support in the More tab. When tapping on Support, the app will now compose an email for you with my support email. With the previous method, sometimes users would mistype their emails and I wasn't able to respond to them.

Based on user feedback, on the new In Game Live Screen the size of the text of heart rates (Max Last and Min) has been increased and made bold to match the other metrics and be more visible. Thanks for the feedback!

Also restored the Color coding of your last heart rate on the watch if you have Recovered alert set (green if recovered, white if above) or High HR Warning set (red if above your chosen threshold, white if below). This was temporarily disabled on the previous version but the haptic feedback would still tap you. If you haven't tried either of these features on the watch swipe right to bring up settings and scroll to the bottom and tap on Heart Rate Alerts, they both can be very useful!

Also fixed a UI bug where the arrows under the scale on the HRR, Vo2 Max, Hockey Fitness Level, and Skating Efficiency cards might have been missing if you are using a larger text size on your iPhone.

tkraig,
Best app for real-time, hockey specific data!!
It’s simply amazing. My kid wears this and there are so many options to choose from for the type of hockey workout. From games to practice to open skate. There’s an option for goalies too and even coaches. The free option gives you some data but the subscription is only $25 a year. A year! The data you get when you pay that nominal cost is unreal. It measures literally everything from speed to heart rate and even all individual shift data in games plus SO MUCH MORE! There’s a V02 max option as well if you have a watch that has the oxygen feature. It’s mind blowing how much data you get every time and you can see the full history in the app anytime, for every workout. The coaches also like to see the data because it shows them exactly what been done in numbers and graphs. Also, the app developer literally responds to you with in a few hours (in my case) when you have a question. Can’t beat that service and overall value. Huge thank you to the developer(s) for making this app!! We love it and will continue to use it. Thank you 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Trident K-9,
Highly detailed and in depth tracking app
As a hockey player, I wanted an app that could track my exercise/ playing when I got my Apple Watch. The regular “Activity” app just doesn’t cut it. After brief looking, I came upon this app. Needless to say it was one of best decisions I’ve ever made! I’ve always been hesitant when purchasing apps or subscriptions but this is worth every penny. This app is highly detailed and goes in depth with your various trainings. It monitors your heart rate, VO2 Max, speed, skating efficiency, and a few more things. I’ve had the app for about 5 months now and use it almost every day. If you ever have any trouble with the app the customer service and feedback is excellent and timely. Just be sure to keep your watch a little tighter for more accurate heart rate readings and turn off power save mode for this app. You won’t regret this outstanding app!
JMP8289,
An actual working no BS app
Hockey tracker is great. It didn’t nag me to write a review, I was just thinking about how it’s a solid app that deserves a shout out.

It’s got good stat tracking, and trend tracking. It works well, and the developer is involved with the app. I wish I could tell you something new about it but the website, screenshots, and app description are pretty spot on. It’s got a great integration with the watch, light years ahead of many other apps because it’s actually using the watch for health tracking in ways you just can’t get anywhere else.

I don’t feel bad for a moment paying for an app subscription because I get good use out of it and I want it to keep working in every new version of watch and iOS.
Footie570,
Pretty Good
I've been using this app for a few weeks now, and have been enjoying it. However, there's a few features I would love to see. I would like an edit feature for top speed. I got a top speed reading of 26mph. I play in a beginner league and this is very clearly a mis-read, but I can't get rid of the stat without removing the whole skate. Also, it would be great to have the ability to add different custom stats, such as blocked shots or shots on goal.

Edit: I would love if this app worked with shortcuts too. I am constantly forgetting to start tracking until the third period. Being able to automatically start tracking based on my schedule would be pretty handy. Or maybe a reminder when it detects activity. Or something
Mattyj2001,
Simple yet comprehensive
I’m just a middle aged beer league guy but I love this app. I’m not going to change my game at this point but the data you get from this app is fun to sift through. I like seeing how my shifts get shorter as the game wears on, how many calories I burn and how my heart rate fluctuates.

I’ve had other tracking devices but none of them had a workout specific to hockey. If you wear your Apple Watch when you play hockey there is no excuse to not buy this app.

My only beef with it is rally a beef with Apple. I don’t believe in software subscriptions and Apple is really pushing that model now. I’m old school and prefer to pay for a new release after it comes out. Software subscriptions have tendency sometimes for unscrupulous developers to not update their apps or fix bugs, but you still have to continue to pay for them.

Anyway, rant over. Reading the reviews and whatnot I get the feeling this developer is honest and attentive to the app so I’m not worried about it. It’s a professional-grade app so I’m willing to risk it for the 4-5 years of hockey I have in me before I get too old and decrepit. 😀
brycesaysno,
Must have for any player
Love the app, I have been using it for close to two years and have used it every skate. The stats are really helpful and I genuinely look forward to seeing if I’ve improved at all. I recommend it without hesitation to any player that asks about it.

I would love to see the ability to edit the end time, maybe by trimming the heart rate over time graph, I have definitely had more times than I’d like to admit where I didn’t realize I had the app running when I’m halfway home on the highway. You can remove shifts, but it doesn’t seem to change anything outside of the shift calculations.
Zipperje,
Works great
Be sure to lock your watch when you start the app. I had a few games that “ended” partway through before I started doing this.

Overall this app is easy to use and seems pretty consistent. I have no idea if the skating speeds are accurate but they are fun to measure and see how you did after games and practices. So far I’ve logged about 20 games and pickups and have been surprised at how reliable this app is. Start it on the bench, lock the watch, and forget about it until after the game in the locker room (push “end”).
Mike$697,
Seems like a great app just doesn’t work well for me.
Not sure if it’s the crazy warehouse type building I play in but the gps for speed is off. The shifts are really off. I video tape games so I know my amount of shifts and shift lengths. This app is WAY off on both shift length and amount of shifts. Not sure what I’m doing wrong or if it’s just the building. I’ll stick to free version for now.

**edit - so I discovered there is a setting for max shift time. I play roller hockey however, so it’s not uncommon to have a 5 min shift. (When short players and having to double shift) The app only allows up to 3 min max shifts. This is why my # of shifts are way off and shift times.
Scardonuts,
Phenomenal app
I know sometimes people can be stingy about paying for apps, especially when it’s a monthly or yearly fee. But, honestly, this app is worth every penny.
The detailed information it provides is everything I’ve been looking for in a health tracker - plus! it’s specific to hockey. Like some other folks have said, maybe you get a weird outlier (I don’t know if I can or have skated 23mph). But the benefits far outweigh any head scratchers.
The app is improved on practically monthly, it seems. The dev is available to their users and helps troubleshoot any issues.

I love this app. Again, worth EVERY penny. Cheers!
Misconduct17,
Great information but drains battery
I have had the app for nearly a month now and play twice a week in a beer league. The information I get is great but the issue I have is a single game drains the battery of my Apple Watch 4 about 50%. I had 2 games today over a 5 hour period and my watch died in the middle of the second game. I charged the watch and the information from the game I was playing did not post to the application. Had I known that would be the case I would have used the Apple Activity app to track my calories burned as I can do 4 hour workouts and not have the battery drop below 75%.

If future updates improve battery life I’ll adjust my rating accordingly.
