Basic but handy, vocals could use some work
I’d been looking for an app that had rote repetition of basic phrases and this does the trick. I’ve only just unlocked the additional free lessons but look forward to going through all of them. The interface isn’t the most attractive but it gets the job done. What keeps this from a 5-star rating for me are the inability to chain lessons or loop them and the flat reading of the Japanese voice. While accurate it lacks the tone of conversation and the important rising intonation of questions.

Needs to Explain Connotations
As a student in a college Japanese class, I thought I could use this to review some of the things I learned. However, this app really needs to better explain connotations. For example, in Lesson 1 they use あなた (anata) to mean "you." While this is technically correct, almost no one actually uses it in Japan as it has a connotation meaning something similar to "dear" or "honey" in English. It is for this reason that only couples tend to use it. Most people would use きみ (kimi) if you're being informal or そちら (sochira) if you’re being formal. きみ would translate to “you” in an informal way (used when talking to friends), but そちら would translate to something along the lines of "there (near you)." そちら refers to the space someone is occupying and is considered more polite because it doesn't reference the person directly. Lastly, when using "you" you can never go wrong by just using the person's name. In English it's weird to continuously use someone's name after already mentioning it, but in Japanese it's quite normal.

So far so good!
This is great for driving home in traffic. Just let the lessons play and try to absorb as much as possible. Combined with another program like Rosetta Stone or a physical class this is a winner. Would be nice to have the option to repeat the lesson in a loop or to have an auto-advance feature to cycle through the lessons. Even BETTER would be an option to cycle through a set of lessons like “lesson 2-5” and have it just loop back around when finished. Good as it is but could be great.

Took away my couple lessons free upgrade
Im doing this review so I can get more then 3 lessons for free because I am really liking this app. This is a beginners course which is great because books and audio that I listen and look at expects you to know a little of the language and I know completely nothing. This app is amazing and I recommend it.

I tried to hit restore premium but it just swirls around not doing anything because it was not a premium. I have to exit completely from the app in order to see my 3 lessons again.
I don't know what to do because I want my 12 lessons back but I don't know how to do it. This is still a good way to learn so I don't want to give it a bad score or scrape it all together but it looks like I have to if I don't get the rest of my lessons I received.

I quite like it
This is a very helpful app when you are trying to integrate Japanese into your language vocabulary, and rarer than other apps I've tried where you log on every day and have learn in quiz format, the lessons on here are much easier to understand and you can take all the time you want or need to learn. My only downside is if you aren't very aware of what each character means in the writing, it's hard to learn how to write as well as read in the language.

Very good and recommended
I am trying to learn Japanese to expand my "canvas" and I have stores and places around me who have Japanese speaking employees or clerks. My family doesn't know how to speak it so I will teach them when I fully understand it. I found this app and to my surprise it was very useful, it helped me tackle a couple of words and sentences I didn't know and or couldn't pronounce. This app overall is a must have if you're learning or trying to learn Japanese

5-1-5 stars again
Thanks for adding ad controls for people who purchased the app prior to the update. I originally purchased this app for $6-$7. However, the update added ads that were quite intrusive and took me out of the lessons. Incorporating an add control helped me remove unwanted ads and get back into my Japanese lessons. Once I master this, I may turn ads back on to earn coins to master other lessons.

Awesome app
This app is an amazing app for learning Japanese. It gives you lessons free and it plays pronunciations of the words, the only problem I have is that it does not teach you to write any form of Japanese, you could learn how to if you wanted to by looking at the symbols it gives you but then you might mess up the strokes and not know it.

So far so good. The lessons are broken up into categories and then you get the English version spoken then the Japanese twice after that and it plays automatically down the line.
That’s all it is so far though. No testing to make sure you’re taking it all in or able to remember. Just lists being read to you.
Its helpful so far and helping me build up but this won’t be the only app I’ll be using as I work to become semi-proficient in the language.

4/22 update broke things
I love the app!!! it’s been easy to learn Japanese and I am making great strides.
I was having an issue with the app and I received a very nice response from the developer explaining the issue. They also offered troubleshooting advice. Add great customer service to my experience 😀 very happy with the app! Works great now!
