Great App, 5 years after and I still remember the Hiragana without practice!!!
Overall, this is app is the best on the App Store available to learn Japanese, I tried others and found myself going 5 years back to find this app and other Dr, Moku stuff through purchases. Always will love it. Why 4 stars? I wish it had Apple Pencil compatibility, when I write with my finger, it looks different from when using a pencil and papers, I wish I can practice writing with a pencil on the app.

Very poor mnemonics for Kana.
So I lost my “Remembering the Kana” book a while back in-between moving houses, and since I recently decided to get back into learning Japanese, I wanted to give this app a try instead of buying the book again. While it has a pretty decent flash card system, the mnemonics to learn the Kana are really bad. Like, really bad. ‘さ’, for instance, was just a random face drawn in it, which happens multiple times where there’s just a random picture with the Kana placed somewhere inside. Even with a really good imagination, the connections from the Kana to the mnemonic are far beyond stretching it. Not to mention there’s nothing given in the mnemonic to remember stroke order either. Just very disappointing, as this was recommended by someone else.

i downloaded this today and so far i am learning japanese basics pretty fast with the examples they give me to remember. thanks a lot for this. the only reason i wanna give this a 4 star rating is because some of the audio on the app is low quality and i cant tell which word theyre saying therefore i get the answers wrong. from how much ive used this app in a day thats all the complaints so yea

I found the pictures and little stories to be the secret to learning all the kana surprisingly quick! After learning them here, I use physical flash cards to keep it all fresh daily.
I am now slowly going through the phrase book portion. This is such a helpful section!

Dr Moku
Hiragana and Katakana Mnemonic flash cards were high quality, sturdy cards incorporating a ‘very easy to study with’ mnemonic system. I found them easy to use and the practice words on each card also reinforced the learning of each character. The cards are also supplemented by free access to the Dr Moku app, allowing me to study on my walks and while exercising !! A great, well priced buy - delivered quickly !

MAKING A DIFFERENCE
I've been trying to memorize Japanese character but I was having a lot of difficulty. This app helped me so much. They way they teach makes a difference. 10/10

There needs to be a TOTALLY free version, like Duolingo.
Nice. But NOPE! I don’t like the fact that I have to make purchases in order to go to the next level! It lures you in by appearing to be free when you download the app, quickly gets you hooked, then asks for money to continue. That turned me off…BIG TIME! So, I will go back to the free version of DuoLingo and make up my own picture associations. The ones in this app are SUPER creative…just not enough to inspire me to pay!

Great idea, unreliable application
I really like how they teach hiragana and katakana in this app. However, they keep forgetting that I paid full price so I keep having to “restore” purchase which loses all my progress. On top of that it logs you out when you’re not connected to the internet so I can’t learn offline.

Awesome App
Great, loved it, plan on using it all year around to learn Arabic, Korean, and Japanese. If he comes out with new languages i’ll learn those too. Helped me remember quickly, and it was fun to learn about the characters. Great memory helpers!
